Review: Protecting Fate (Serve #6) by Katee Robert

Synopsis

He’ll keep her safe…but who will protect her from him?

Fixer Sara Reaver is in serious trouble. She’s stepped on the wrong toes, and now her uncle is sending her out of the city in an effort to keep her safe—and he’s assigning her a glorified babysitter. The last person she expects to show up is the gorgeous Z, or for him to tempt her and then reject her in the space of a single night. Twice. Now she’s out to prove to him just how good they’d fit up together in every way imaginable.

Mercenary Z Loreto hates protection jobs, but he’s willing to make an exception for his best friend’s little sister. The only problem is she calls up things he’s been doing his damnedest to keep under wraps for the last seven years. But when she pushes him too far, it all comes rushing to the fore, and the fact she’s willing to submit to his every desire only makes the loss of control sweeter.

Sara and Z have a boatload of issues between them, but they’re sure they can make things work if they take it one day at a time… Right up until things spiral beyond their control. Now Z’s playing for keeps in a big way, and Sara’s got to decide if a chance at true happiness is worth the risk of repeating history.

My Review

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I will start by saying this...Z is one sexy beast! Holy cow. Now I admit that I have the other books in this series sitting in my e-reader, but I have yet to read them. (There are just so many books and not enough time!) So I was unfamiliar with both Z and Sara's characters, BUT, this book can be read as a STAND ALONE.

Z works for Sara's brother so when she needs protection, he becomes her protector. I loved that their first interaction was at Serve. All the ingredients for one smoking encounter was there and Sara definitely wanted it, but damn Z and his amazing self control! Talk about delayed gratification. For everyone.

Z has his reasons as to why he feels he needs to keep his distance from Sara. I wanted to reach through the book and do some major bitch slapping when he eventually tells Sara his heartbreaking story. I could see why he would be wary of giving into his dominant urges, but he was way overdue to let it go. Luckily Sara doesn't judge him, but instead actually feels sorry for him, which was the exact opposite of what he expected from her.

The chemistry between these two...DAAAAAAAAAMN. There is no shortage of crazy, hot sex scenes in this book, but there are also some really sweet scenes where Z opens up to Sara. She starts to know the real Z and he even tells her his full name. They start to form a real relationship and she helps him overcome his fears. But when something really unexpected happens, Z and Sara are put to the test. They have to ask themselves if their relationship is only about their physical attraction to each other or if there is more to it.

Here's a little bit of the "hot" to tease you.
Put your hands against the glass.” He skirted his now free hand up the inside of her thigh as she obeyed, and slipped a finger beneath her panties. “You’re wet, sweetheart. Warm and wet and welcoming.” He pushed into her, seeming to test her, and she nearly bit through her lip at the feeling of his thick finger inside her. Z let go of her hair and pushed her dress to the side, baring first one breast and then the other. “I like you in pearls.”

“Make me come, and next time the only thing I’ll wear is pearls.”

He stopped the delicious stroking of his finger and glared. “Did I give you permission to speak?” When she opened her mouth, he cut her off before she got an answer out. “The only words I want to hear are ‘Yes, Sir’or ‘No, Sir.’

”It was an effort to swallow. “Yes, Sir.”

“You will not speak unless spoken to.”He pinched her nipple hard enough to make her cry out. “Understand?”

The backseat seemed to have jumped ten degrees hotter. “Yes, Sir.”

“Please me, and I’ll fuck you tonight until you lose track of how many times you come.”

Yes please! And that's not even the hottest part of the book.

So go add this book to your TBR and then go to Amazon and 1-click! It's a quick read and you will not be disappointed. Now I need to find the time to go back and read the rest of the series!
