My Review
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoy Steph's books. Just last week I did a spotlight on the Love in the City series, so it's no surprise that I LOVED THIS BOOK. I even documented my read on Goodreads, which is something I say that I will do, but never actually do it. But I wanted people to know how much I enjoyed it. The photo below shows some of the great quotes a few thoughts I had along the way.
Fletcher and Bayler are officially my favorite "Love in the City" couple. They are perfect for each other. They meet on New Year's Eve at one of Fletcher's clubs. He sees her and instantly knows that he has to take her home. She obliges and the two of them have a mind blowing night together. Since they give each other fake names, they have no idea who they are with. And who are they exactly? Well Bayler is Carter & Harper's sister and Fletcher is one of Carter's best friends.
Skip to 5 months later and SURPRISE!!! They are reunited at Carter & Elly's wedding. They manage to control themselves for the weekend, but soon after Bayler moves to NYC and all bets are off! They start the typical friends with benefits secret relationship that soon turns into more.
Fletcher meets his match with Bayler. She doesn't take any of his crap and can put him in his places when he needs it. I need to talk about Fletcher for a minute. He is a ladies man with a heart of gold. He is a successful businessman who loves his grandmother. Fletcher is also extremely sexy, sweet, loyal, protective and has a way with words.
“I love you, Bayler, and I know that’s really scary for you to hear. I know you don’t open your heart easily, and you’re worried about getting hurt, but . . . Do you remember what you said to me after you pushed me out of the plane?” (Yeah she pushed him OUT OF A PLANE. I said Fletcher met his match for a reason!)
“How could I forget?” I laughed, blinking back tears. “I told you that you had nothing to worry about because you had a parachute.”
“Let me be your parachute.” His hands cupped my face as he stared down at me intensely. “Let me be your parachute, and I promise you’ll never have to worry about getting hurt. Sure, we’re going to fight and disagree, and there are going to be days where we hate each other, but I will always be there for you because I love you.”
Tears fell out of my eyes fast as I held onto him and smiled. “I love you, too.”
Then he dropped his mouth to mine and delivered a kiss so pure and raw, I felt my heart open the moment his tongue tangled with mine. Running my fingers into his soft hair, I delved deeper, reveling in the deliciously hot taste of him, so bold and sensual it ignited a pleasurable throb between my legs that I’d been yearning for for weeks. It’d been so long since our last kiss that we lingered now, welcoming each other home and exploring all the sweet places we’d been before.Oh and one last thing about Fletcher. He lost his virginity at the age of 15...I'd tell you who he lost it to, but you really need to read the book. Trust me...it's worth it.
There are so many great moments in this book. I love when the whole gang is together. In this book the ladies form a roller derby team and it is totally kick ass. I always knew that they were tough chicks, but this just proves that they truly are bad ass ladies.
There is a fantastic secondary storyline in this book that made me so happy. Both Bayler and Fletcher volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters and it turns out their Littles, Vail and Rook, go to school together and have a crush on each other. Ah young love. It was nice to see them fumble along as teenagers in a relationship while Bayler and Fletcher fumbled along as adults in a relationship. I hope they show in the future books...I need to know how they are doing!
I love that we already know that there is going to be a bunch more stories in this series. I can't wait for more group shenanigans. More weddings, babies, parties, roller derby, etc. Up next is Justin & Tessa's story next and I can't freaking wait! At one point during the story Rook says the awesome sentence, "Nice guys get the swoon" and I hope that is what happens with Justin. Fingers crossed!
