RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW: Awkward. by Lily Kate

Title: Awkward.
Author: Lily Kate
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: January 30, 2018

Blurb

Ladies,

I know how things look from the outside. I’m rich. I’m a successful surgeon. I’m handsome. I should have women lining up from here to New Jersey clawing for space in my bed, but there’s one huge catch.

I’m f*cking awkward.

Every time I get a date, I spoil it. Asked if she’s pregnant? Check. Forgot her name? Check. Bought a meat lover’s pizza for my vegan girlfriend? Check, check, check.

This is why my best friend, romance fanatic Allie Jenkins, has declared that she’s swooping in to save the day. She’s prepared a list of required reading straight from The Ripped Bodice, and I’m supposed to take notes, learn from the best, and put that shit into action. After all, practice makes perfect, right?

Wrong.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

I love a good friends to lovers story, and even though I had never read a Lily Kate book, the synopsis caught my eye. And I love the idea of an awkward guy. I feel like so many books are about the awkward girl trying to overcome her awkwardness. And then throw in the fact that Jack is a successful surgeon (aka he's SUPER SMART) and I was so intrigued.

The book opens during one of Jack’s many failed dates. We quickly learn that this is the norm for him, so he asks Allie to help him. Jack and Allie have known each other for basically their whole life and are as close as two people can be without getting physical. So it just makes sense that Allie be the one to help him get into dating shape. But the more Allie schools him, the more Jack realizes that he doesn’t want to date. Well, he does want to date, but he wants to date Allie. And convincing her of that is where the real fun begins. But Allie isn’t the only person who thinks that that the two of them dating is a bad idea. Jack’s mother is hell bent on setting him up with the “perfect” woman and Allie is not a contender. And unfortunatley Allie agrees, which is where the problem lies.

I enjoyed Jack and Allie’s friendship, but I loved them as a couple. While it was a bit awkward at first, especially for Allie, Jack was determined to show her that they belonged together. He was so sweet and loving and I just kept waiting for the light bulb to go off above Allie's head.

This story was super sweet and also extremely funny at times and I had a hard time putting the book down once I started reading. And as I mentioned earlier, this was my first Lily Kate book and I look forward to reading more of her books.

5 Star Review: Indecent Exposure (Academy #2) by Tessa Bailey

Is there a problem, Officer?

Jack Garrett isn’t a police officer yet, but there’s already an emergency. His new firearms instructor—the one who just dropped every jaw in the academy gym—is the same sexy Irish stranger Jack locked lips with last night. The Olympic gold medalist and expert markswoman is now officially off-limits, but Jack’s never cared much for rules . . .

Katie McCoy’s been cooped up in a shooting range for too long. A wild love affair is just what she needs to let loose, though she never imagined it would be with her smokin’ hot trainee. She cannot get involved with Jack—but a quick fling? Perfect. Falling hard for a charismatic recruit with an equal amount of sex appeal and secrets? Bloody stupid.

Jack’s charmed the pants off plenty of women (literally), yet few have ever looked beyond his perfect surface. Until Katie. He’ll do anything to keep her in his life . . . except tell her about his past. But a tiny lie of omission never hurt anyone, right?

My Review

I received an advance copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

I thought I was ready for Jack Garrett. I read the first book in this series and I really wanted to know more about him and the woman who would eventually grab his heart. But you know what? I was NOT ready. Not at all.

Jack is only in the police academy because he lost a bet. He’s that guy who will coast through the program, graduate and spend the rest of his career doing what he did to get his badge, the bare minimum. But all that changes when he meets Katie. He randomly meets her on the street and it is a honest to god, life changing encounter. Jack is a ladies man and he has no qualms about having one night stands. He actually prefers it that way. So when Katie, without even trying, works her way under Jack’s skin, he’s not sure what to do. All he knows is that one night with her will never be enough. Unfortunately, Katie is only in town for a couple weeks and while she is there, she has things she needs to accomplish. Luckily for her, Jack is more willing to help her accomplish some of these things and what starts as a business trip turns into so much more than that. They both find themselves feeling things they never felt before and the throws them both of kilter.

Jack and Katie's feelings were new to both of them and I loved watching them find their footing. Jack takes her on romantic dates and says and does the sweetest (and HOTTEST) things. (Once again we get an epic grovel scene and it was just SO GOOD.) And not just because he wants to get her in bed. Their relationship was about more than just their attraction to each other. Until Katie came along, Jack was coasting through life. He did not let people (even his closest friends) see the real him, but Katie was able to and that made all the difference.

While I knew that this book would be super sexy, I was unprepared for the all the feelings. So many feelings! It was definitely more angsty than the previous book and I guess that threw me a little. I just wasn’t ready for it. There is one section of the book that absolutely destroyed me. One minute I was quietly reading (and probably chuckling to myself) and then there were tears streaming down my face and I didn’t even realize it. Tessa tackles some serious topics in this book and she does it in a realistic, emotional way that took my breath away at times.

And can I just say that the choice of cover model for this book was so PERFECT. It’s rare that I see a cover and then find myself picturing that particular person while reading the book, but that is exactly what I did. Talk about enhancing the reading experience!

Now bring on the third book in this series! In this book we get a few glimpses into Danika and Greer's relationship that make me think that these two are going to be explosive! I can't wait!

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days. Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of ten years and six-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

RELEASE DAY BLAST: The Upside to Being Single by Emma Hart

If anyone asks, I knew better than to flash my boobs for Mardi Gras beads.

I still don’t know why I did it. Maybe it was the dare from my two best friends. Maybe it was the guys on the balcony saying they’d throw Fireball shots with the beads. Or maybe it was the quiet guy in the corner of that same balcony with piercing gray eyes, wavy dark hair, and a smile so tempting I wanted to climb up there and lick it off his face. Maybe it was because I never thought I’d see them again. Not that it matters. Not today. Because the hotel I manage was finally bought—and the guy who walks in and introduces himself as my new boss is Mr. Tall, Dark, and Silent.

There are many upsides to being single. Your new boss knowing what your boobs look like? Not one of them.

EXCERPT

“I just—I don’t get it.” I threw myself onto the sofa and almost sent the box of donuts flying onto the floor.

Thankfully, Peyton was quicker than the box. She grabbed it and sat back, hugging it to herself. “First, watch the donuts. I got the last two pink sprinkles, and I’m partial to them.” She stroked the top of the box. “Second, what don’t you get? How he doesn’t care about your boobs? I don’t care about them either.”

“You’re not supposed to care about my boobs. You’re a woman, for a start.”

“I care about your boobs,” Chloe interrupted, tucking her blond hair behind her ear. “I think you have great boobs. Bra or no bra.”

“Usually no bra,” Peyton added.

“I’m not afraid to throw something at you,” I warned her. “This is awkward.”

“Ugh! Get over yourself, Melanie!” Peyton snapped her fingers. “You are a grown woman. He is a grown man. He saw your tits. So what? Steven Lawrence saw your tits five times in junior year.”

I snatched a donut from the box. Don’t tell my hips. “We were dating! It’s entirely different!”

Chloe delicately picked up a white-iced donut before saying, “She’s right. It is different, Peyt. They were dating, and Jacob is her boss. You can’t expect her to just get over that. It is partly your fault.”
“It’s just as much your fault,” Peyton reminded her, then looked at me and nodded toward Chloe.

“Drunky smurf over here shook her Tic-Tacs like she was in front of a bachelor party leaving a curry house.”

I choked on my laughter. “That’s not the point. You got us drunk. It’s almost entirely your fault.”

“Look, sunshine,” she said, tearing a bite of donut off the ring so her words were muffled. “I didn’t grab your shirt and whip it up like a two-dollar hooker on overtime. You did that, so grow a pair and take responsibility for your actions.”

“You sound like you don’t want to take responsibility for yours.”

“Hey. You’re big girls. You can refuse cocktails.”

Chloe and I shared a glance. “Refuse cocktails?” she said. “I don’t understand.”

“You have us mixed up with your other friends,” I continued. “But, wait. You don’t have other friends.”

“I have plenty of friends,” Peyt said.

“Friends without penises. Or benefits.”

She paused. “We’re not talking about me. We’re talking about your hot boss who knows what your tits look like.”

“You’re not helping.”

“I’m not trying to help. I’m trying to slap your size-eight ass into reality, you idiot.”

“Slap mine into reality and I’m putting yours on a catapult. Right into the middle of the gulf.” I tore my donut in two and gave her boobs a pointed look. “I always wondered if silicone would float.”

REVIEW BLITZ & 5 STAR REVIEW: xo, Zach by Kendall Ryan

The first time we met was at a party.

Your ex arrived to show off the person he'd left you for last month, and you asked me to pretend to be your date.

I was more than happy to help. You were attractive, smart and witty--and that kiss we shared? It left me wanting you for days.

The second time we met was in my office on campus where we were both surprised to discover you were the new master’s degree student in poetry that I would be working with. You promised to be professional. I did no such thing.

The late nights and intense study sessions spent alongside you majorly throw me off my game. I want you, and I fight with myself daily over this fact.

I know I'm crass, that my sexual innuendos and dirty mouth annoy you, but I live for those two bright spots of color in your cheeks. If that's the only reaction I can get out of you, I'll gladly take it.

You hate Mondays so every Monday I slip an anonymous poem into your bag and your smile gets me through the week.

I think I'm falling for you, and I know it's wrong. I know that I'm only supposed to be your adviser and nothing more, but here's the thing. I think you're falling for me too.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Where do I start with this one? I loved it. I loved Poppy. I loved Zach. *sigh*

When Poppy uses Zach to make her ex boyfriend jealous, she just assumes they will part ways at the end of the night and never see each other again. The two share a kiss and enjoy each other's company as they get to know each other, but that's it. When Poppy shows up to meet her new adviser and it's Zach, she is taken aback and thrown off course.

Meanwhile, Zach can't believe his luck when Poppy walks into his office. He hasn't been able to stop thinking about their kiss. After Poppy and Zach meet a few times, it clear that they not only get along academically, but also on a personal level. Zach wants to date Poppy, but she has her reservations. For many reasons, not just because he is her adviser.

I loved Poppy and Zach's relationship. It was more about them getting to know each other and Zach saying and doing things to reassure Poppy that he was the man for her. It's not that she didn't believe him or that she didn't want him, she was wary about getting involved with anyone. But was a persistent man and pulled out all the stops.

Once I picked this book up, I could not put it down. I swooned repeatedly from the things Zach did and I couldn't wait for Poppy to realize that he was perfect for her. The pay off was  wonderful and by the time I finished I felt all warm and fuzzy! This is definitely a one-click book!

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

I love the way this book starts. Hallie is a photographer at a wedding and when she sneaks away to steal a cupcake, she ends up having a hot kiss with an equally hot stranger. He disappears almost as quickly.

After a terrible job interview, Hallie runs into a woman who offers her the perfect opportunity. All Hallie has to do is pretend to be someone's girlfriend for a week. Which seems simple enough, until Hallie meets the potential "boyfriend" who is also her hot stranger. Turns out the man she kissed the very eligible, very rich Max Carlisle. He is absolutely delighted to find out that Hallie could be his girlfriend for the week and he tries his best to convince her to do it. Of course she does and that is where the fun really begins.

I loved these two together. Hallie was a breath of fresh air in Max's stuffy world. Most of Max's family are pretty terrible people and when his grandfather sends them all on a wild scavenger hunt in order to see who will take over the family business, having Hallie at his side is a major bonus. At first Max isn't at interested in the games his grandfather is playing, but Hallie's enthusiasm is infectious and before he knows it, they are trying to win the whole thing.

This was a quick read that had me entertained the whole time. I found myself not only completely invested in the results of the scavenger hunt, but also with Hallie and Max's "relationship". These two had fantastic chemistry and every moment between them was special.

EXCERPT

Max sets me down gently, and brushes a strand of wet hair from my face. His eyes are stormy blue in the darkness, and his fingertips hot against my face.

My breath catches. My eyes drift to his mouth, and then just like that, he’s pulling me close again, into a hot, reckless kiss.

Ahhh.

God, I’ve been dying to taste him again. His mouth is hard and possessive, claiming mine, and a shudder of lust rolls through me at the feel of him. His hands are all over me, molding me against him as the fire between us blazes hotter, and I forget everything. Like my rules, and our arrangement, and the fact I’ve sworn off men like him . . . None of it matters, not with Max’s tongue doing wicked things to mine, and his body so hard against me.

Very hard.

Hello.

Shocked doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel when I see Layton standing outside, wearing a large coat… and is she holding pom-poms?

After another insistent pounding on the door, I stride to it, yanking it open. “What the hell are you doing at my house? And who let you the fuck in my neighborhood?”

“I gave the guard my brother’s name and said I was taking important papers to you.”

“That’s… pretty damn smart.”

Throwing off the coat, Layton beams at me and puts her hands on her hips. “I came over to S-E-D-U-C-E you!”

My jaw drops and gets stuck to the floor. “You what?

Her brow furrows. “Did I spell seduce wrong?”

I look around, half-expecting that at any minute, someone with a camera phone will jump out at us and yell just kidding, because there's no way in hell Layton Price should be on my doorstep wearing a cheerleading outfit and shaking her pom-poms at me.

Well, she hasn't shaken them yet, but her tits are about to pop out of her top, and the skirt… the skirt leaves little to the imagination. Swear to God, with a faster turnaround, I’ll see her ass cheeks hanging out.

“You spelled it right.” I rub my jaw. “What do you want?”

She rolls her eyes. “I came here to seduce you.”

“Wearing that?” It’s not usually my thing, but…

“Should I shake my pom-poms for you first?”

Hell yes, you should. “No. Put your coat back on.” I bend over and pick it up, then place it around her shoulders. “You need to go home, LT.”

She juts out her bottom lip. “My Uber already left.”

“Not my problem.”

“Come on, Aiden,” she pleads, batting her lashes at me and letting the coat slide down her hot little body. “It’s cold outside.”

“Should have thought about that before you put,” I wave my hand at her, “that on.”

“I wore it just for you. The top’s too tight, though.” As if to torture me, she started bouncing up and down on the balls of her feet. “Oh, wow. I can’t believe the girls are staying put.”

Me either. “Good for them.” I try to shut the door, but she shoves a pom-pom in at the last minute. “Damn it, LT. I said go home.”

“You can't leave me outside when it's cold like this.”

Better than me taking advantage of her like this. “I’m not a gentleman, baby girl.”

“You don't have to be a gentleman to be a decent person,” she points out. “And stop calling me baby girl. I’m neither one of those.”

She's right. “Get your ass in here. You can wait in the foyer while I get an Uber for you.”

Pushing her way in, she grins and spins around, stumbling a couple of times in the process. “What do you think of the outfit? Be honest.”

"This is serious, Poppy. Will you promise?"

"What am I promising?" This man had a way of getting me to say things, to feel things, to admit things that I might not have otherwise. I wasn't sure if it was because he was older and wiser and that much more cunning at these types of discussions, or if it was just because being near him seemed to physically lower my inhibitions. He was like a walking shot of tequila.

"I need you to promise me that if anything physical happens between us—that it will be very consensual, and very sex-positive. I need you to understand that I will worship you and make you come So. Many. Fucking Times."

He annunciated those words so clearly and slowly, I felt them with every beat of my heart, every pulse of heat between my legs.

Oblivious to my hammering heart, Zach continued. "But I also need you to know that if I do or say anything you don't like, all you have to do is say so and everything will stop. Just the word no, Poppy. Use it and I promise to leave you alone."

"Leave me alone as in stop mentoring me, stop helping me in the program?"

His face was serious and he shook his head without even considering it. "I will never stop mentoring you, as long as you want it. Giving in to our attraction—or not—will never be a condition for my help. I want you to succeed, and it has nothing to do with how much I want you in my bed. Do you understand that?"

I felt myself nodding my head.

I knew what he was saying. Despite how aggressively Zach put his feelings on the subject of us out there—I knew he'd never betray my wishes.

"Okay," I murmured.

He considered me for a long moment, neither of us blinking.

"Why did you approach me that night at the party, Poppy. Did you find me attractive?"

Was he fucking serious?

Of course I find him attractive. Actually, attractive was too weak a word. I found him mesmerizing. Addictive. Enchanting. Impossible.

"I'm not saying I do, but if I wanted something to happen ..." I swallowed a wave of nerves and took a shallow breath as Zach's mouth curved into a grin.

"Something as in finding out how many times in a row I can make you come using my mouth, my hands, and my ..."

I held up one hand. "Yes. That. How would it work, isn't it, like, forbidden?"

God, why did the word forbidden make me feel even hotter?
