About FIRE IN YOU:

From the # 1 New York Times and International bestselling author comes a richly moving story about heartbreak and guilt, second chances and hope. Full of familiar, fan-favorite characters and no two people more deserving of a happy ending, Fire In You will burn bright beyond the last page

Jillian Lima’s whole world was destroyed in a span of a few hours. The same night her childhood love, Brock ‘the Beast’ Mitchell, broke her heart, her life was irrevocably altered by the hand of a stranger with a gun. It takes six years to slowly glue together the shattered pieces of her life, but Jillian is finally ready to stop existing in a past full of pain and regret. She takes a job at her father’s martial arts Academy and she’s going out on her first date since a failed relationship that was more yuck than yum. Jillian is determined to start living.

She just never expected Brock to be a part of her life again. But he’s firmly back in her life before she knows it, and not only is he older, he’s impossibly more handsome, more teasing and more everything. And when he sees Jillian, he’s no longer capable of thinking of her as the little girl who was his shadow growing up or the daughter of the man who gave him a second chance at life. He sees the woman who’d always been there for him, the one person who believed in him no matter what.

Brock knows she’s the one he should’ve made his, and what begins as a tentative friendship quickly turns to red-hot chemistry that sparks a flame that burns brighter than lust. Falling for Brock again risks more than her heart, because when the sorrow-filled and guilt-ridden past resurfaces, and a web of lies threatens to rip them apart, the fallout could lay waste to everything they’ve fought to build together, and destroy the dreams of those they care most about.

EXCERPT

“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me,” I gasped.

Brock’s eyes widened and then he threw back his head, laughing loudly and freely. “Ms. Lima, language.”

My face turned blood red. Did he seriously just say that to me?

Andre’s smile was a bit sly as he eyed the both of us, and I knew—I just knew—he was fully aware of the fact I had no idea Brock was going to be here. Just like my mother had to have known and just like my father had failed to mention.

My family was a bunch of assholes.

“Okay, I’m going to go—uh, pretend to do something,” Andre said.

Brock’s brown eyes were trained on me as he stepped aside and clapped the shorter man on the shoulder.

“Good luck,” Andre said to him, and my hands balled into fists.

The half-grin appeared on Brock’s mouth and he waited until Andre had disappeared. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard you use the word ‘fuck’ before.” His gaze flipped to the ceiling. “Well, there was the one time you tripped over your own feet and banged your knees off the pool deck. Pretty sure you yelled ‘fuck’ then.”

“This is not happening,” I murmured, heart thumping heavily in my chest.

“Actually, I think you yelled ‘fuck’ when your uncle Julio caught you trying to sneak out of the house. You remember that, right? You were trying to follow me—”

“You can stop,” I snapped, “with the walk down Fuck Lane.”

That grin increased, spreading into a full smile that caused my stomach to dip. I placed steadying hands on my desk. “Please tell me I’m dreaming right now.”

“If you were dreaming, I’d hope we’d both have less clothes on.”

“What?” My jaw hit the top of the table. Was he flirting with me? Not entirely surprising. If you looked up “flirt” on the internet, I was sure it had a picture of him grinning the panties right off of some chick, so I guessed a fiancĂ©e wasn’t going to change that.

Chuckling, Brock leaned against the door and folded his arms across his broad chest, stretching the material of his white button-down. My gaze dropped. Yep. He was wearing the damn Chucks. “You’re not dreaming, Jillian. I’m the new General Manager and you’re my assistant manager.”

“There is no way,” I said dumbly.

He glanced around, arching a brow. “Is it really that surprising?”

I wanted to scream yes, but I should’ve guessed it the moment I saw Brock Friday night. Anger swept through me. Not only did I feel incredibly stupid for not figuring out Brock was my new boss, I was extremely pissed everyone in my family had basically set me up.

Taking a deep breath, I asked, “Can you give me a second? Please?”

Brock didn’t move for a moment and then he unfolded his arms. “Your wish is my command.”

My fingers curled around the edge of the desk to stop myself from throwing something at him. The moment he stepped out of my office, I hurried to the door and closed it behind him. Storming back to the desk, I pulled my cellphone out of the little slip inside my purse and jabbed my finger on my father’s contact.

He answered on the third ring, his accented voice way too cheery for this time of the morning. “Jillian, my baby girl, are you—”

“Brock is the new General Manager?” I whispered-yelled into the phone.

“You’re at the office already? It’s not even eight-fifteen— Wait, Brock is already there too?” He laughed. “That is surprising.”

“That’s not really important right now.” I took a deep, calming breath. “Brock really is…he’s the GM?”

“I don’t think you really need to ask that question,” he responded. “Especially when you know the answer to it.”

Closing my eyes, I held the phone so tightly I was surprised it didn’t shatter into a million pieces. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Would it have a made a difference?” he asked.

Yes. A thousand times yes, but I didn’t say that. I refused to admit that. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“You’re going to have to ask him that.” There was a pause. “I didn’t offer you this job because I thought you couldn’t handle working with him or that you would be calling me on your first day, thirty minutes before you should even be there.”

Ouch.

“And I’m not saying that to hurt you, hon. You know that. Hurting you is the last thing I’d ever want to do.” There was another gap of silence while I contemplated knocking the computer off my desk with a ninja kick, and then Dad said, “You can do this.”

Then he hung up on me.

What in the hell?

My Review

Two things:

1. If you have read the Indiscretion series, this is a MUST READ!

2. If I was to review this short story with one GIF, it would be this:

I even went as far as to send that GIF to the author as soon as I finished, because OH MY GOD I LOVED IT SO MUCH!

I am a big fan of the Indiscretion series, so I was VERY excited to hear that we would be a getting an Indiscretion short story. Going in, all I knew is that it would be Christmas related and something was going to go wrong with Max & Chloe's holiday travel plans.

This story is just the best. Max and Chloe are still ridiculously in love and while their plans seem to go to crap, they pretty much define the phrase "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." They even enlist fellow travelers (surprise "guests" of sort) to help them out.

This may be a short story, but I laughed, I cried, and I swooned. There were even a few moments when I needed a cold shower! But let's be honest, if Max & Chloe weren't having sexy, sexy times, they wouldn't be Max & Chloe!

Elisabeth managed to cram a lot into this story and it was amazing. Thank you for giving us a little more Max and Chloe!!

Jackie Davenport will try anything once, especially in the bedroom. Anything except falling in love. She lives a carefree existence packed full of fun, but free from emotional entanglements and that’s just how she wants to keep it. When she meets the new police officer in town, she’s unable to deny the connection between them. His over confidence and bullish ways grate on her…still she can’t help but find herself falling into his bed AND falling for him.

Jamie McTavish is man enough to admit that he probably didn’t make the best first impression when he met the 911 Operator. That doesn’t mean there isn’t still sizzling sexual tension between them. He’s a man of action and he’s not content to sit on the sidelines until Jackie works out her issues. But trying to tame this tiger might be too big of a challenge for even him.

Indiscretion (Maine Attraction - Book 2)

F*ck and chuck. Pump and dump. Hit it and quit it. One night stand. Didn’t matter how I branded it—that’s all she had wanted it to be. That much was clear when she left me with my pants down and my dick still out.

What she hadn’t counted on was fate intervening and our worlds colliding—again.

The day I showed back up in the life of Chloe Griffins, I knew I had to have her again. My body was hungry for another taste. Like an addict, I’d been craving another hit for months, and there she was—flesh and bone, tits and ass.

The fact that she worked for the competition should’ve been reason enough for me to leave her alone.

I had a job to do that summer and f*cking Chloe wasn’t part of it. But I was like a man possessed. I’d do whatever it took to have her again.

Abigail Jansen is done with hockey . . . and hockey players. After leaving her two-timing NHL-star husband, Abby decides to start over in her hometown of Glenwood Falls, Colorado. Now Abby has to face her fears . . . and coach Jackson Westmore. He's tall, dark, handsome—and happens to hate her.

All through high school, talented hockey player Jackson Westmore had a crush on Abby, but he would never make a move on his best friend's girl. My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

I love "starting over" stories. There is something about watching someone take back their lives and start anew. In this book, Abigail is divorcing her NHL star husband and has moved back home. Her daughter is not her biggest fan these days and all Abigail wants to do is lead a normal life. Enter her ex-husband'As best friend Jackson, who has had nothing but contempt for Abigail. Or at least that's what he wants everyone to think. The truth is Jackson has always liked her, and perhaps a bit too much. When her daughter wants to try out for the junior hockey team, Abigail find herself face to face with her past.

I really liked Abigail. She was dealt a crappy hand after she caught her husband cheating and she really was trying her hardest to make the transition to a single mother as smooth as possible. Everything she did, she did because she loved her daughter so much. When Jackson finally admits his true feelings she is not only thrown for a loop, but she has to decide if getting involved with him is the right thing to do.

And Jackson. He had a short lived career as a pro hockey player and is now the junior hockey coach. He is fine with where his life has led him and seems to be pretty content, but then Abigail returns. Once he starts spending time with her and her daughter he realizes that the feelings he had for Abigail are still pretty strong. And getting involved his best friend's ex-wife is a terrible idea, but he just can help himself.

I liked watching Abigail and Jackson's relationship develop. There was never any real hate between them, just a lot of uncertainty. But once all the cards are laid out on the table, they found themselves not only getting along great, but their relationship went from zero to sixty in no time flat. I liked that the author gave us some flashbacks that explained why Jackson treated Abigail the way he did. In true teenage fashion, it was more about self preservation than anything else and you can't get mad at that.

I'm excited to read the rest of the series. I do need to go back and read the novella, which is about Jackson's sister Becky, who I LOVED in this book. She becomes a great friend to Abigail and of course is there dole out advice to her brother. But I'm also curious about the other two Westmore brothers and I can't wait to read their stories!

EXCERPT

“Look, we both know the other night was…”

“Incredible.”

She sighed. “Okay, yes, incredible, but also…”

“Passionate.”

“Can you let me finish?”

He smiled. “Fine, but first…” Taking her face in his hands he lowered his lips to hers. The surprise look in her eyes should have given him cause to reconsider, but the hell with it. It didn’t matter that he knew he’d crossed a line and he’d broken some sort of bro code; for the first time in his life, he was ready to go after what he wanted. And after the night they shared, he knew she wanted him to.

She closed her eyes and fell into him, and he deepened the kiss, savoring the taste of her peppermint lip gloss and sliding his fingers through her soft hair. Her hands were pressed against his chest, but she wasn’t pushing him away. Instead, they clutched the fabric of his T-shirt, drawing him even closer.

When he reluctantly broke away a moment later, he was happy to see Abby was as out of breath as he was. “Okay, now you can talk.”

“I don’t remember what I was going to say.” She sighed, resting her forehead against his chest. “What are we doing?”

He leaned back and, placing a finger under her chin, forced her gaze to his. “I’m doing what I should have done a long time ago. Abby, I know I should keep holding back how I feel for you because of Dean, but the truth is, that friendship isn’t worth giving up this chance with you. I’m not even sure I know my friend anymore, after how he treated you and Dani.”

“Jackson, I just got divorced. I’m not ready for…this. Whatever this is. I’m sorry my kissing you and…other things have been misleading, but I’m not sure I can do a relationship right now. Dani and I are starting over and rebuilding a life here.”

He nodded. “I’m not asking for anything except a chance. I know you’ve been through a lot. I know you may still…have feelings for Dean,” he said through clenched teeth. The idea that he might always have to compete for her full affections made him even more determined to prove that he was the right one for her. Had always been the right one.

She shook her head and started to say something, but he placed a finger to her lips.

“And that’s okay. I just want a chance to prove to you I would never hurt you the way he did. I don’t care how long it takes. Take your time. I’m not going anywhere, Abby. My love is not going anywhere.”

She swallowed hard and her eyes widened at his words. “I can’t promise I’ll ever be ready,” she whispered.

“I’ll keep waiting,” he said firmly. Then he smiled. “On one condition.”

She frowned. “Which is?”

“You and Dani come to the fall fair this weekend with Taylor and me.”

“No.”

“It won’t be a date,” he said quickly. “Just two friends hanging out.”

She sighed again. “I think we skipped over ‘friends,’ don’t you?” she asked.

“Well, then friends shouldn’t be that difficult,” he countered. He wasn’t about to let her push him away. Not when he was finally ready to show her how much he cared about her.

“Fine. But I don’t think friends sit on the same side of the table, so get over there,” she said, trying to nudge him out of the booth.

He stayed exactly where he was. “This friend does.”
