RELEASE BLITZ & 5 STAR REVIEW: What He Always Knew by Kandi Steiner

What He Always Knew by Kandi Steiner
What He Doesn’t Know Duet, book 2
Release Date: March 29th, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Left or right.

It’s that simple, and it isn’t simple at all.

If I turn left, the road will lead me back to the man I promised my life to, the one I’d imagined building a family with, the one who’s done everything in his power to get me back.

If I turn right, the road will take me to the man I loved first, the man who brought me back to life, the man who would do anything to keep me.

I knew the fork in the road was inevitable; it was the decision I never wanted to make between choices I didn't know I had.

And I love them both.

My heart is destined to exist in two equal halves — one with each man. But one half beats stronger, the vein running deepest, and holds my choice in silence long before I know it for myself.

The realization of what I have to do, of the heart I have to break, just might break mine too.

Left or right.

All I have to do is take a breath and turn.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

I won’t lie. This book was difficult to read at times. It’s a story about three extremely flawed people and there were moments when I did not like any of them. I got frustrated with their choices and wanted to reach into the book and shake some sense into them. There were even times when I felt that none of them deserved to be happy.

But I kept reading. Kandi’s words sucked me into the story and wouldn’t let me go. I had to find out how everything played out. And I usually stay away from love triangle stories, but after reading the first book I had to read this one. I’ve been cheated on and I’ve cheated. It was also a long time ago and I like to think that I’ve become a better person since then. I think my past experience helped me get through this book without passing any hard judgements on the characters. Some readers have a hard line about certain things happening in books and I know that some won’t read this book because of it or if they do, they will give it a low rating.

But that doesn't mean that Kandi hasn't given us a beautiful story. Everything about it seemed so real to me. Going in I had thoughts on how things would probably play out and who should end up together. I will not say if I was right or not, but I will say that throughout the course of the book my feelings changed more than once and I was satisfied with the ending. Even if I ended up sobbing in the middle of a Whole Foods. It happens.

EXCERPT
August was a slight step ahead of me. I followed close on his heels until we were outside. We paused, fingers intertwined. He faced me and ran his thumb over the back of my hand. It was a simple brush, but there was nothing simple about touching August.

We both glanced at our clasped hands. My breath faltered. The past few days had been warm for April, the heatwave steaming the evenings, too. Being with August made it steamier.

He wound both our arms around my back, pulling me against him. “You look beautiful, Possum.”

His nickname for me pinched my heart. As kids, I’d pretend to sleep sometimes while we’d watch TV, like a deceiving possum playing dead. I’d then bolt upright to scare the living shit out of him. A screeching August was supremely entertaining.

I tilted my head back to look into his eyes, every memory we’d shared reflected in those hazel pools. “I’ve missed that nickname.”

His free hand came to my cheek, knuckles brushing it gently. “I’ve missed you. It was always there, under my skin, in every song, but I didn’t realize how much until today. My heart is fucking racing.”

God, this man. I squeezed our laced palms and unfurled my other over his sternum. Over his heart. Need bellowed in that thundering beat. “You don’t smell like grass.”

He wrinkled his nose. “I used to smell like weed?”

“Like grass, dummy. Your lawn mowing business.”

He smiled and shook his head lightly. “We can roll around in a park, if you want.” He sucked on his bottom lip while eyeing mine.

Lord have mercy. “I can’t believe this is happening.”

“Oh, it’s happening.” He gripped my hand tighter, pulled me closer, brushed his nose against mine.

My best friend, the friend I loved irrevocably and thought I'd lost for good, might actually kiss me.

RELEASE BLITZ, 4 STAR REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Man Handler by Shari J. Ryan

Release Date: March 28, 2018
Cover Design: MadHat Books

Scarlett

Blytheville, South Carolina—have you heard of it? No? Yeah, neither had I, until today. Want to know why? It’s in the middle of nowhere, and I’ve been given the ultimatum of either living on the street in Boston or accepting a job transfer down to this blank spot on the map where people say things like: “Bless Your Heart,” “Over Yonder,” and “I reckon.” Oh, and they don’t cuss, which makes survival a bit challenging for me with my flavorful vocabulary.

I’ll cut to the chase. On day one of my new Southern lifestyle, I land myself in the hospital and meet Austin, one of the two nurses on staff. I would consider this guy absolutely gorgeous if I were into the whole tanned, smokey-blue eyes, and messy sex-hair look, but I’m … not. Okay, I’m lying. If Austin wasn’t my type before, he definitely is now. However, I was sort of rude to him. While I’m sure my first impression was probably my last, maybe I can turn on a little Southern charm (if I can figure out how to do that) and change his mind.

Austin

This chick is crazy, hot as hell, and more wound up than a taunted wild animal. I might be out of my mind, but I’m intrigued by her short temper and lack of filter.

She thinks I’m just funny and sweet as pie, which I know annoys her, but she hasn’t spent time with me outside of work yet, so she doesn’t know I can dish out more than she can take. Miss Scarlett thinks she’s tough and intimidating because she’s from big, bad Boston, but she’s about to learn how things really go down in the South.

The question is, will Scarlett and Austin ever see to eye-to-eye, or will they give up the fight long enough to see what they’ve been missing?

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

When Scarlett, a life long Bostonian, gets fired from her job, she is given an alternative. Move to Blytheville, South Carolina and take a job at a sister hotel there or face the unemployment line. She isn’t happy about it but she makes the move and brings her best friend with her. To say she goes into culture shock upon arrival is an understatement and it doesn’t take Scarlett long to get acquainted with locals after she ends up in the hospital with a wrist injury.

One of those locals is Austin. He has lived in Blytheville his whole life and he knows everyone. So color him surprised when a very cranky city gal, aka someone he doesn’t know, ends up in his ER. He is immediately intrigued by Scarlett. She is gorgeous, mouthy and definitely unlike anyone he has met before. Fortunately for him Scarlett is equally intrigued about him and despite some hesitation on her part she decides to give him a chance.

I really enjoyed this book. I had a few hours on a train, so I picked it up and before I knew it, I was done. I laughed out loud more than once which made my seat mate give me a strange look. Oh well. That’s what happens when you read in public!

This is the 2nd book I’ve read this week that featured a very sweet and sexy southern gentleman. I’m pretty sure at this point if a guy called me “darlin’” or “sugar” I’d marry him. Okay, maybe not, but I’d definitely think about it.

Excerpt

“Well…” I stop to clear the rasp from my voice. “If there’s no picture of us together, we should take one.”

“Good idea.” He crooks his finger at me, unwittingly sealing his fate. “Come here.”

I put my jacket on downstairs when I thought we were leaving, but I take it off now, simply letting it fall. “I want you in the mayor’s chair.”

His eyes stray to my pooled jacket, then tick to mine. “You what?”

“In the picture. I want you sitting in the chair.”

“Oh. Right.” He slides out the brown leather, high-back executive chair and drops into it. “What about you?”

My bravery slips. Whose wouldn’t? This powerful, gorgeous man sits before me, outlined by the city he’s been elected to run. His thighs are thicker than my waist, his sleeves caught up around his elbows. A strong man. A man of conviction who will not be seduced unless he really wants to be.

Or is driven out of his mind and can’t resist.

Before I can second-guess myself, I move between his outstretched thighs and ease myself onto his lap. “Addison.”

I send him an innocent look over my shoulder. “Yes, Captain?”

His chest rises and falls. Once. Twice. “Take the picture.”

The fact that I’m playing with fire stops psyching me out…and begins to excite me. Maybe it’s the gravel in his tone…or the big fists that come to rest on the desk. No…it’s definitely the way he presses his nose to my hair and inhales. As if I’m not going to notice. But I do. I do and it makes me braver. Makes me throb between my legs.

“The picture, Addison.”

“Sorry.” I lean across the desk where I set my purse, taking my time digging through to find my cell before pulling it out, searching for the camera app. All the while, his muscles bunch beneath me, harder and harder…and that’s when I feel it. His erection lifts under my backside, so thick and glorious, I bite my lip to stop from crying out. I want to, though. I want to sob at the proof that he’s physically attracted to me and at least I have that much.

My hands are shaking as I lift the camera, my instincts screaming at me to grind down. Elijah’s breath is pelting the back of my neck. Other than that he’s completely still, though. But when I flip the camera around to selfie mode and get my first look at his face, there isn’t a jury on the planet that would rule him unaffected. His eyes are closed, nostrils flared, mouth open against my hair. “You’ve got five seconds,” he says. “Take it, or—”

“Or what?” Elijah stands up and takes me with him, my ass pressed to his lap, feet dangling off the ground. As if I weigh nothing more than a child. It only lasts for a couple mind-blowing seconds, though, before he settles me on the ground behind his desk. His heat begins to leave me and I sense my chance slipping away, so I twist around to face him. Still mere inches away from me, he pauses with his head tipped forward, hands flexing at his sides. “We could be more than friends.” After easing myself backwards onto the desk, I snag his necktie and tug him closer, guiding his hips between my open thighs. “Just for tonight.”

His laugh is more like a rough expulsion of air, the scent of bourbon hitting me. “That’s not how things work,” he says, his palms scraping up my thighs, twisting in the hem of my dress. “Goddammit, Addison. You’re not supposed to tempt me like this.”

Tempted. He’s tempted. My blood cells crash together. “I don’t always do what I’m supposed to,” I murmur, leaning up to bring our mouths close, a breath separating them. “If I wasn’t your friend, would you kiss me right now?”

His eyes fasten on my mouth, seeming darker than usual. Predatory. “You felt what you did to my cock, sugar. You know the answer to that.”

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

When Addison returned to Charleston and stood at the back of her estranged cousin’s wedding, she didn’t plan on rescuing the groom, but that is exactly what happened. And with Addison being his only option for a quick getaway, Elijah doesn’t think twice and jumps in her car. From that moment on, these two strangers, who have absolutely nothing common, become friends. Addison gives him a place to get away from everything, while Elijah buy her lots of cereal. Sounds like a good arrangement to me!

I don’t think I can put into words how much I loved Elijah. And not just because of his nice butt. ;-) He was this jilted groom who was supposed to be mourning a marriage that never happened, but instead finds himself hanging out with the last person he should be hanging out with and gluing buttons on snowman ornaments. Seems like the right And before he knows it, he thinks of Addison as his best friend. And don’t even get me started on the moment that he realizes his feelings for her are WAY more than friendly. Because OH. MY. GOD. Hot doesn't even begin to describe it.

This story is full of sweet moments and moments that will make you have to change your panties. Elijah and Addison have crazy chemistry and the sort of slow burn we get with them is amazing. I loved how Addison brought out a different side of Elijah. It's not that Elijah didn't know who he was before he met her. He's a successful politician who people like and admire. But was a bit reserved and maybe even a little uptight, but once he met Addison, all that went away.

Addison and Elijah are definitely one of my favorite Tessa Bailey couples. After I finished reading, I immediately wanted more of them. This is one book I plan on reading over and over again.

Author Bio

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days.

Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Let me just say this: Jaxon Hart is a prince among men. But Jason Hart did raise him, so duh. That's just a no brainer.

Jaxon is now in college and forging his own path to success. Everything is going great and then one night he meets Annika. Actually saying he "meets" Annika feels weird. He doesn't meet her. He saves her. Their meeting may be under the worst possible circumstances, but those circumstances allow the two of them to form a bond that is so vital to the story.

I loved Jaxon and Annika so much! I will admit that I was a little wary of how their relationship started, but it didn't take me long to get on board. They just understood each other. More than once Annika mentions how Jaxon represented safety to her and that was so important. These two fall for each other and they fall fast, but they also take it slow because that is what needs to happen.

While this story is about Annika and Jaxon, it is also about a topic that is so relevant to today. It gave way to a very emotional read and more than once I found myself tearing up. There is a note at the end of the book that explains where this story came from and how recent events may or may not have played a part. There are also details in the book that let you know the author made sure to do her research.

If you love the Hart family like I do, this book is a must read. If you are new to the Hart family, this is a good place to start. Either way just read the book!

With a story always rolling around in her head, it should come as no surprise that she finally started putting them on paper.
