COVER REVEAL - It Happened One Summer by: A Novel Tessa Bailey

Tessa Bailey is back with a Schitt’s Creek-inspired rom-com about a Hollywood “It Girl” who’s cut off from her wealthy family and exiled to a small Pacific Northwest beach town... where she butts heads with a surly, sexy local who thinks she doesn’t belong.

Piper Bellinger is fashionable, influential, and her reputation as a wild child means the paparazzi are constantly on her heels. When too much champagne and an out-of-control rooftop party lands Piper in the slammer, her stepfather decides enough is enough. So he cuts her off, and sends Piper and her sister to learn some responsibility running their late father’s dive bar... in Washington.

Piper hasn’t even been in Westport for five minutes when she meets big, bearded sea captain Brendan, who thinks she won’t last a week outside of Beverly Hills. So what if Piper can’t do math, and the idea of sleeping in a shabby apartment with bunk beds gives her hives. How bad could it really be? She’s determined to show her stepfather—and the hot, grumpy local—that she’s more than a pretty face.

Except it’s a small town and everywhere she turns, she bumps into Brendan. The fun-loving socialite and the gruff fisherman are polar opposites, but there’s an undeniable attraction simmering between them. Piper doesn’t want any distractions, especially feelings for a man who sails off into the sunset for weeks at a time. Yet as she reconnects with her past and begins to feel at home in Westport, Piper starts to wonder if the cold, glamorous life she knew is what she truly wants. LA is calling her name, but Brendan—and this town full of memories—may have already caught her heart.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

If I had to use one word to describe this book, it would be "intense". But if you read the first book in this series, you probably expected that. Elias is one intense dude and Roksana is a force to be reckoned with. But you will also know that these two also have a soft spot for each other.

But how could a vampire and a vampire slayer have feelings for each other? Thankfully this book gave us the answer to that! I was so intrigued by how these two met and part of me wanted more from that portion of their story. Their meeting, in the grand scheme of things, was short, but it impacted them both in different ways and this is how we find them in their current situation.

I love a cranky main character and with this book, we get two of them! Roksana is a vampire slayer and should want to kill Elias and his friends, but we know from the first book that she is probably not going to do that. And Elias has vowed to take care of Roksana, but how can he when at the heart of everything, he is probably the one that is most at risk.

I enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to the next book in this series. It seems as though Tucker will have his hands full and I am sure that it will be very entertaining.

EXCERPT

“Beers on me later,” Elias muttered, keeping his attention on the cards. “You can ask me whatever you want…”

He trailed off, that scrape between his shoulder blades growing more pronounced, until he couldn’t concentrate enough to decipher the suits of his cards. What the hell was going on? Throat dry, he laid down his hand and turned in his chair—

Silence fell around him when he saw her.

She was golden. Radiant.

Miserable.

The long-legged blonde limped through the casino with a beautiful pout on her face, a pair of high heels shoved under one arm. There was a fine sheen of dew on her incredible face, telling Elias she’d just escaped the stifling Vegas heat. Simply by existing, she commanded fealty and the casino seemed to part around her like the Red Sea, creating a path for her to complete a wobbly strut toward Elias’s poker table—and the closer she came, the more his lungs compressed, as if he was running out of fucking oxygen.

Who is she?

No idea. But the discomfort between his shoulder blades was gone.

Like a balm had been applied.

The girl was beyond gorgeous. He’d never noticed cheekbones on anyone in his life, but he noticed her high ones. The indigo blue of her eyes. And Jesus, he definitely noticed the way her soft mutterings made his heart flop over. Who are you?

Vaguely, he heard Latte ribbing him. “Bet you’d call her back, huh, Silent E?”

“Forget what I said about him being mysterious,” Kenny quipped. “Everything he’s thinking is right there on his face.”

More laughter. But the buzzing in his skull was already drowning them out.

Elias watched the blonde’s high heel fall out of her arms and flop sideways on the casino floor. He was on his feet before it stopped moving, abandoning his hand at the table without a thought so he could scoop up the shoe and follow. He didn’t have a choice in the matter. Going after her was a requirement, searing him, compelling him.

And a moment later, when she looked up at him from her seat at a slot machine, his world righted itself with a grinding snap. He hadn’t even known it was off kilter.

The blonde crossed her impossibly sexy legs and his body reacted swiftly, hardening.

“Well?” she said in a husky Russian accent. “Make it good. I only have five minutes before I wreak the havoc.”

EXCERPT

“Will there be a million weeping women at your wake?” She tapped a finger to her lips. “There will be, I’m sure of it. The place will overflow with tears. I better make sure our flood insurance is up to date.”

As she commenced circling the table once more, her white lab coat scratched against the hem of her green plaid dress, which fell sensibly to her knees. It was cold in the funeral home, especially downstairs where P. Lynn Funeral Home’s guests were kept in preparation for their final goodbye, so she’d pulled on thick black stockings with a flower pattern before coming below to work the night shift.

Dressing with care was Ginny’s way of showing respect to the people she worked on—a fact her stepmother and reluctant business partner often scoffed over—but a T-shirt and jeans simply didn’t cut the mustard when she’d been entrusted with a loved one’s care. Ginny had designed and sewn her current ensemble in class and she definitely shouldn’t be wondering what Dreamboat here would think about the cut and fabric. Or if he’d notice she’d fitted it a touch tighter in the hip zone than usually made her comfortable.

“I need help.” She gathered her auburn hair over one shoulder. “You agree, don’t you? Finally, you’ve gotten peace and quiet from your multitude of admirers and here I come, trying to annoy you into reanimation so I can find out the color of your eyes. You must want to die all over again.”

Continuing her journey around the table, Ginny’s gaze ticked to the clock, reminding her she should have started working half an hour ago. Why was she so reluctant to begin? Where did she get off experiencing the weight of loss when she’d never crossed paths with this individual before?

“Anyway, I know what you’re thinking. She’s brought up my legion of female fans three times now. She must be jealous.” Ginny stopped beside Dreamboat and looked down at his regal brow, the masculinity of his jaw, and a horrible welling started in her chest. “I think you’d be right,” she whispered in a red-cheeked rush. “I think if you’d smiled at me even once on the subway a decade ago, I’d be out avenging your death right now. Isn’t that crazy?”

Just to be sure a terrible (wonderful) mistake hadn’t been made, Ginny lifted her right hand, letting two fingers hover over Dreamboat’s pulse. Her heart rate spiked at the prospect of touching him, which didn’t bode well for tonight’s task of filling his veins with formaldehyde. How could she give him the proper care he deserved if she couldn’t stop shaking?

A bracing breath passed between her lips.

She touched her fingers down to his pulse.

Nothing.

There had been no mistake.

He was thoroughly, devastatingly dead.

“I’m so sorry,” Ginny managed, her tears welling at such a rapid pace that one escaped, glopping heavily onto the man’s stone cold torso.

His eyes shot open.

His…eyes shot open?

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Full disclosure: I don't read paranormal romances, but when Tessa said that she was writing one, I knew that I had to give it a chance. And I'm so glad I did!

Ginny finds herself fascinated when Jonas ends up on her mortician's table. But she becomes even more fascinated when he opens his eyes and it turns out he is alive. Well sort of. Meanwhile, Jonas is immediately drawn to Ginny and he doesn't know why. He finds himself breaking all the rules and when he finds out there is a threat to her life, will pretty much do anything to keep her safe.

I really enjoyed this book! It's a little different from Tessa's other books, but you are still aware that you are reading one of her books. Jonas might be a vampire, but he is an Alpha vampire. Once he starts to really know Ginny and the extent of the threat against her life, his protectiveness is amped up, but A LOT. Once the book takes a turn into the steamy, it is VERY steamy. There are also some great secondary characters that I absolutely LOVED and I can't wait for their books!

If you're like me and don't usually read paranormal romance, but are a fan of Tessa Bailey, you should definitely 1-click this book.

RELEASE BLITZ & 5 STAR REVIEW: Sink or Swim (Beach Kingdom #3) by Tessa Bailey

Andrew Prince wakes up before everyone else. He schedules the bar shifts, demands perfection from Long Beach’s lifeguards—most of all himself—and makes sure the family debts are paid. His unfaltering worth ethic might leave him exhausted, but it comes with one advantage. It distracts him from the love he’s been harboring since childhood for the girl next door—who he cannot have.

Jiya Dalal has dreams. To fly a plane, see the world below…and prove irresistible to her best friend, Andrew. But she needs to be a good daughter first, which is becoming an increasingly difficult task, since her parents expect a good marriage and the man she loves with all her heart refuses to pursue the blistering connection between them. Just when she’s beginning to believe Andrew truly doesn’t want her, a moonlight tryst on the beach exposes his true feelings. But an echo from the past kept them apart before…and it’s only growing louder with every stolen kiss…

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

A couple weeks ago a friend of mine asked me what I did that weekend and I replied with "I read an amazing book!" They know about the romance reading and the blogging, so they asked me "Why was it amazing?" I think I started my answer about 4 or 5 times. Not because I couldn't come up with anything, but because I had a hard time coming up with the RIGHT words. This person doesn't read romance and I just didn't know how to properly express my feelings toward the book. I don't remember what my final answer was but I know that it contained the phrases "friends to lovers", "so much pining from afar that it actually pained my heart (but in the best way possible)", "sexy as hell", and "one of the best books I've read this year". I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't form full sentences and just said the above phrases.

The first two books in this series set this one up quite nicely. We know that Andrew has been loving Jiya from afar for YEARS, but hasn't done a thing about it. The same goes for Jiya, but she has convinced herself that she has been friendzoned and will never recover from that. But then they both come to the realization that the future Jiya's parents want for her will most likely mean that Andrew will no longer be part of her life the way he is now and that knocks some sense into both of them. This trope always has the "OMG what are we doing" moment and this is theirs.

Y'all the "moonlight tryst on the beach" mentioned in the synopsis. OH. MY. GOD. It went in a direction that I did not see coming and it was so freaking good. But I guess all those years of pining means that the sexy time are going to be knocked up a few notches.

I'm really going to miss the Prince family, especially Jamie and Marcus. They are still the absolute cutest and Marcus was the source of some laugh out loud moments that came at the right times. Then there is the epilogue that was *chefs kiss gif*. I laughed. I cried. I sighed happily. It was everything. And even though I would love for Tessa to just keep writing books about them for years to come, the way this ended was just perfect.

Jiya looked up and found Andrew watching her intently. “What is this, Andrew?”

“We’re dancing,” he rasped, his gaze slightly unfocused.

“You’ve never danced with me like this before.”

His gaze strayed to her lips, before he resolutely dragged them away. “Do you want to stop?”

“No and that’s the problem.” Come on, Mrs. I Don’t Play Games Anymore, bring up the elephant in the room. It’s not going away. “You’ve been different with me lately. Is it...” She took two bracing breaths. “Is it because I’m dating?”

He started to deny it, then changed his mind. “Might be. Yeah. I know that’s fucked up,” he said. “You’ve always been min—my best friend. We won’t have this if you start dating someone seriously. If you...”

“Get married?”
His complexion turned gray. “Mmm.”
Cement caked her insides, but she was used to it by now. She’d loved Andrew since she was a child. She’d waited patiently for him to love her back—as more than a friend—and he hadn’t. He’d done nothing about it. So while she yearned to dissect his every word and rejoice in them, ached for what he was feeling, she couldn’t do it anymore without being a fool. “Ask me the question, Andrew. The one you ask me every night.”

A line formed between his brows. “Can I do anything for you, Jiya?”

“Yes.” She took his face in her hands. “You can stay my friend. No matter what happens. Fine, things are changing in my life. But I couldn’t bear it if I ever lost what we have. Just stay my friend. Promise me.”

His jaw bunched. “You know I’d cut my heart out before saying no to you, right?”

“Yes.”

“Then you have your answer.” He wet his lips. “But we’re finishing the dance.”

5 Star Review: Heat Stroke (Beach Kingdom #2) by Tessa Bailey

Marcus “Diesel” O’Shaughnessy is a brash, oversized CrossFit enthusiast with a naked lady tattooed on his rippling forearm. Jamie Prince is a private school teacher with an extremely low tolerance for bullshit. The two men have zero in common. Well, except for three things.

They’re both moonlighting as lifeguards for the summer.
No matter how hard they try, they cannot stay away from each other.

And both of them have secrets they’re determined to keep.

But what happens in the shadows of the Long Beach boardwalk can only remain hidden for so long, before the July sunshine reveals the hot, unrelenting connection they never expected, forcing Marcus and Jamie to decide if they’re simply caught up in a temporary heat stroke or if they’ve found something worth rescuing...

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Marcus has a crush on Jamie. He's had a crush on him from pretty much the moment he met him. But he's confused. He's straight. Or at least he thinks he is. Jamie has always thought of Marcus as a pain in the butt. He likes to get in Jamie's way and always makes a point of making sure their lifeguard chairs are next to each other. But Jamie senses that Marcus is confused about his sexuality and thanks to a past incident, he is not about to help him figure things out. But Marcus is persistent and manages to wear Jamie down and the two end up spending some time together. And that is when everything changes.

Holy cow. Y'all, Marcus and Jamie are everything! These two couldn't be more different, but together they just work. You can't help but love Marcus. He sees the world in a very simple way and Jamie appreciates that. He probably thinks too much about everything and being around Marcus is just easy.

Their story is sweet, a whole lot of sexy and just plain adorable. The sexual tension was thick and there were a few moments that made me need a cold shower. Jamie is a take charge kind of guy and Marcus is more than willing to take part in that role play. I just loved them together!
