The deeper they look, the harder they fall.

Jamie Houston was supposed to just be Leda Riveau’s Thursday night (and maybe Friday morning) fun.

Leda has awesome brothers, friends who are as allergic to emotions as she is, and a great job. She’s back in her hometown, Maybelle County, after a romantic and professional disaster three years ago in Nashville. It might not be what she planned when she was a teenager, but it’s perfect.

Or, well, it’s almost perfect. Because Leda is still angry and bitter about Nashville, and everyone knows it. She hates romance and doesn’t do relationships, and her younger brother’s trying to get her to be nicer. But she’s not nice. She even has her own hashtag: #ledagoesnuclear.

Then she sees Jamie again, when he’s between serious girlfriends, and discovers that the chemistry she’s always suspected is right there, ready to explode if she lets it.

Jamie is a serial monogamist who’s always liked Leda, but the timing’s never been right. After he sees her while they’re both single for the first time since high school, he knows he wants to be with her. Everybody knows she doesn’t date and doesn’t get serious, but he’s always serious, especially because he has a three-year-old son and a three-hour commute to get from work to Leda.

What starts out as a casual Thursday night arrangement gets messy when Leda and Jamie also have interfering friends, sad brothers, a pushy mom, an amazing son, and chemistry so intense it’s scary.

How does a man who needs forever win a woman who hates romance?

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Whew! Everything about this book is intense. Leda is intense. The way Jaime looks at her is intense. Their feelings for each other are intense. And when they finally get together...HOLY CRAP. Hot doesn't even begin to explain these two. But let's go back to the beginning.

Jamie and Leda have known each other for a long time. They grew up in the same town. They know the same people. They even formed a close friendship when they were in their teens, but as they got older, they grew apart and led their own lives. They've had encounters over the years, but they haven't seen each other in a while. Jamie is back in town to visit his three year old sun and he and Leda have a very interesting and funny run in. Fast forward a little bit to New Years Eve (see the excerpt below) and they are at the same party. One thing leads to another and they end up sleeping together. And can I just thank Zoe for giving us Jamie. Good lord, he was not what I expecting and I just about needed a cold shower after reading that scene. (And a few after that!)

These two made such a good pair. You know that couple that fights passionately and then makes up passionately? That is Jamie and Leda. She is known for her temper and how she yells at people for the littlest things, while he is pretty even tempered. Jamie has the patience of a saint for putting up with her and I loved him because of that. Leda has some serious hangups from a past relationship that make her a really difficult person to love, but Jamie made the point of not pushing her away and more importantly, not pushing her to commit. Most people would have walked away, but he knew they had a good thing and was not willing to let that go. Their path to happiness is full of fights (and of course lots of hot make up sex), but it was just what Leda needed to move on from the past.

I loved this book. It was a bit more serious than the first one, but the storyline called for that. I also liked that we got a little but more of Leda's brother Seth in this book. The broken hearted, singer/songwriter has a story to tell and I hope Zoe will write it. Also, can we get Dunk a happily ever after? That goofball needs a woman.

EXCERPT

I stalk-strolled towards her, my patience stretched paper-thin by desire.

I crowded close, so tall and wide that she couldn’t see anything else but me, and my hand cupped her waist. She stumbled against the wall, her feet wide apart to keep her balanced.

“You’re so damn tall,” I murmured. Still a few inches shorter than I was in her heels, she angled her head back, her hair scraping the textured wallpaper, to meet my eyes again. My thumb stroked in arcs over her hips and I saw her try to suppress a shiver. “You must be six-three in those heels. Usually I can’t look a woman in the eye unless we’re lying down.

Her eyes flashed fire and she asked belligerently, “Are you going to keep me here till midnight?”

I ran my fingertips down her earlobes and chandelier earrings, not bothering to confirm what was obvious. I knew she didn’t want to go anywhere either. If Leda Riveau didn’t want to be somewhere, she sure as hell would’ve told me so and moved.

When the crowd screamed and chorused “Happy New Year,” I half-smiled.

My face dipped until the tips of our noses grazed together, testing the boundaries, and when she only parted her red lips, I laid mine against them for the first time.

Light flickered behind my closed eyelids as her mouth softened a fraction.

But I didn’t want her soft, I wanted her fierce and dynamic, so I caught her around the waist. My voice dropped in volume and register while I demanded, “Kiss me harder, Leda.”

Her arms wound around me and her nails dug into my neck, scratching hard as she swooped in and bit at my bottom lip before her nimble tongue pushed into my mouth.

I couldn’t have stopped the heartfelt moan that escaped into the air between our open lips.

But at the noise, she pulled back sharply and looked at me, brows creasing. I didn’t know what had made Dunk say what he had, but I knew plenty of gossip about everyone in Maybelle, and I’d never heard so much as a word about her sleeping around.

I wanted to reassure her, but I knew that the usual platitudes about how she was beautiful and Dunk was a fucking idiot wouldn’t work because they’d make her feel too vulnerable. My best shot was probably self-deprecation, to shift the attention to my shit and away from her.

So I hooked her hair behind her ears, smoothing the disarray I’d caused.

“Do you know how many women run from this?” I pointed at my eyes. “I always have to hide it. I haven’t been able to do that with you tonight, and all you’ve done is stare right back.”

“I, uh, like it. It makes me feel special,” she practically stammered. “And that’s incredibly…” She swallowed, her eyes dipping down to my mouth again. “…tempting.”

My gaze sharpened with desire. “I would like to make love with you.”

She jabbed a finger in my chest. “You cannot call it that,” she ordered. “No bullshit about how you were moon-eyed over me half our lives ago when we didn’t know shit about shit.”

I grabbed her finger and reeled her in.

“You can stare at me all you want,” she half-babbled, “but this is just good chemistry.”

Sometimes you just can't resist playing with fire…

By day, Aaron Clarkson suits up, shakes hands, and acts the perfect gentleman. But at night, behind bedroom doors, the tie comes off and the real Aaron comes out to play. Mixing business with pleasure got him fired, so Aaron knows that if he wants to work for the country's most powerful senator, he'll have to keep his eye on the prize. That's easier said than done when he meets the senator's daughter, who's wild, gorgeous, and 100 percent trouble.

Grace Pendleton is the black sheep of her conservative family. Yet while Aaron's presence reminds her of a past she'd rather forget, something in his eyes keeps drawing her in. Maybe it's the way his voice turns her molten. Or maybe it's because deep down inside, the ultra-smooth, polished Aaron Clarkson might be more than even Grace can handle…

EXCERPT

His progress toward the door halted when Grace shot to her feet, arms stiff at her sides, those green eyes like glowing jade moons. “I…that isn’t what I was asking for. I just meant, let me help you, in general. I—I didn’t think…”

Aaron’s neck heated. “If you don’t like the idea, we can change it—”

She jumped. She actually jumped straight up in the air, hands flying to her cheeks. “I love it. Oh, please don’t change anything. I was just so surprised.”

He inclined his head, mentally cursing the way his heart decided to make its presence known at such an inconvenient time, walloping his rib cage with thick booms, courtesy of Grace’s pleasure. How juvenile. “I’m kind of surprised myself,” he admitted, then wished he’d kept his mouth shut.

At least until Grace floated toward him. All shining eyes and rosy excitement, she spurred a lust storm in his stomach. “It’s so much better when you say what you’re thinking, Aaron.”

“You mentioned that.”

And of course, it made him want to say more. Say whatever it would take to get her legs wrapped around his hips. To rock between her thighs until her wetness drenched the fly of his pants. “Get away from me, Grace,” he rasped. “It would be just like me to take advantage of you after having to tell that story.”

Silence deepened around them. “How can you say that after you just found a way for me to rebuild the camp?” It seemed as if her entire body lifted and fell on a harsh sob. “Last night, you asked me if I still saw some good in you…and I didn’t answer. How could I not have answered you?” She shook her gorgeous head. “I didn’t mean to—”

Aaron shot forward, capturing her unspoken words with his own mouth. Guilt. There had been even more guilt in her eyes. Aaron’s response was pure denial. Not because of me. Not over me. But as soon as their lips joined, his mind wiped clean of anything but Grace’s one-of-a-kind taste. She was juicy, sweet, refreshing, intoxicating madness. He let it pull him down into its depths—her depths—gathering up her taste greedily so he could live with the effect as long as possible, even though surely a man couldn’t withstand this type of arousal for an extended length of time. He’d want to fuck her again as soon as he came. It was a certainty his body was all too eager to confirm. Yet protectiveness held him in a state of limbo. Wanting—needing—to mate with her delicious body while determined to protect her from himself.

Couldn’t she sense the past meaningless encounters he wore like gloves, cheapening everything he touched? Couldn’t she sense his inability to be meaningful to her? Grace should have someone with substance, not someone who couldn’t even garner the love of his own family. Someone who considered the ramifications of his actions and how they would serve as betrayal. This is how you repay me?

The voice from his not-so-distant past had Aaron tearing his mouth away with a guttural growl, clasping Grace by the shoulders. Too hard. Ease up. “Get away.”

“If you really want that, let me go,” she whispered.

God, he couldn’t do it. Not with her face tipped back, lips swollen and shined up, those eyelids halfway fallen. He’d never in his life had trouble resisting sex. It was always a logical decision based on his needs. This? There was nothing cut and dried about it. His attraction to Grace was messy and wild and untapped. Made his chest expand with the effort to contain the expanding of something unfamiliar. Crazy and blinding. His dick needed a good, rough handling from one woman only. Grace. And she wasn’t pushing him away. Seemed like she wanted the job, too, her tits sliding up and down his abs with every breath. Give her one more chance. Show her what she’s in for with a bastard like you. With a muttered epithet, Aaron raked his hand up the back of Grace’s thigh, sliding it down the back of her tights, and settling his middle finger in the valley of her ass. “Get away from me,” he managed, wedging his straying digit a little more securely, earning him a closed-lipped noise.

“No,” she gasped after a few seconds.

Aaron’s tether broke. Recapturing Grace’s mouth with an obscene amount of tongue, he backed them toward the bed, satisfaction rippling in his middle when she went down beneath him, her legs falling open in welcome. He draped his body over Grace’s slighter one, eager grunts leaving his mouth as he positioned himself over her pussy and bore down with his erection. Their groans were pain-filled, reaching every corner of the cabin, breaking off when Aaron got back to kissing that addictive mouth, yanking the oversized sweater up, up to her belly, so he could rock against her sex with only his pants and her tights as obstructions.

“Aaron.”

“You were warned,” he reminded her with a strangled shout, delivered into the space above her head. “Three times, Grace. That’s three times more than I’d give anyone else.” He slid up and back in the cradle of her legs, groaning over the rasping friction her tights delivered to his stiff, fuck-hungry dick. “Make it four times. I gave you an out back at the house. You should have taken it.”

When Grace should have been trembling or alarmed by the cut steel in his voice, she only stretched out beneath him like a cat, opening up for him. Almost preening beneath his rough ministrations. “Maybe I should have. But we’re here now, so stop trying to scare me.” Her fingertips moved down Aaron’s chest to the seat of his pants, where she smoothed her palm over the curve of his cock, which started him panting like a marathon runner. “You don’t really want to scare me, do you, Aaron?”

Christ, her soft words, the sight of her, were choking him up. Her hair was a haphazard display framing her face, those crooked front teeth somehow making him twice as eager to seal their mouths together again. He was a hunter who’d discovered a sprite dancing in the woods and dragged her home, intending to use her body for vigorous relief, but got forgiveness in return. “No, I don’t. I don’t want to scare you.”

“I know,” she breathed, unfastening his belt buckle. “I just know.”

RELEASE BLITZ & 5 STAR REVIEW: No Fear (Bomar Boys #3) by Jess Bryant

Title: No Fear
Series: Bomar Boys #3
Author: Jess Bryant
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: January 30, 2017

Blurb

Every small town has that one family that's more savage than civilized. The ones that are more myth and legend than man. In Old Settlers, Oklahoma that's the Bomar boys. Wild, reckless and vicious, they skirt the line of criminal and trip over it more often than not. They are their own punchline: white trash but proud beyond compare. Dirty and dangerously sexy, it's best to steer clear of them or else risk your life... and your heart. These are their stories.

Rachel Grant lives every day in fear. Scared that she'll always be the kind of girl that nobody notices. Scared that her brother will figure out quiet doesn't mean deaf or stupid and put together that she knows far more than she should. And what she knows has her fearing for her life because in a small town like Old settlers everybody knows that you don't cross the Bomar boys.

She needs help. Somebody she can trust. Somebody strong. Somebody that can protect her... and she knows just the guy.

Remy Bomar ran away from what being a Bomar meant when he was eighteen. Ten years later, he's finally come home and he's sworn that he'll do anything to take back his place within the family. He didn't protect the people he loved when he was young and he won't make the same mistake again.

When the cute, shy, girl next door looks up at him with fear in her eyes, what he feels is far from simply protective. He wants her safe but he also wants her to be his. Being a Bomar, those two things have a tendency to be mutually exclusive, particularly since his family has a traitor hell bent on hitting them where it hurts.

What happens when the truth comes out? When Remy finds out she knows far more about the threat to his family than she's been letting on? When Rachel has to choose between her family... or his? Will they find the strength they need to overcome their fears once and for all?

*No Fear is the third book in the Bomar Boys series but can be read as a stand-alone. Each book features one couple and a HEA but will build on each other so they are best read in order.

**Warning** - This book contains explicit language, sexual scenes and violence. Though not depicted, mentions of domestic violence are key to the story and can be a trigger for some.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Yay Remy! This man is EVERYTHING. I have been waiting for this book from the moment I finished reading No Apologies. Remy grabbed my attention and I had to know everything about him.

On paper, Remy and Rachel do not make sense. Not one bit. Remy is not only a Bomar, but he is a rough, military man and Rachel is a frightened, stuttering woman. She has her reasons for why she is so frightened and they are valid, but for some reason Remy does not frighten her. It's one of those things that you can't explain and you just accept it. And that's okay. Besides I am a sucker for the strong, silent, bad boy who is actually a giant softie.

I know that there is a serious and slightly dangerous plot to this book, but for me Remy and Rachel's relationship is the story. Everything else was just secondary to me. From the moment that Rachel put herself out there and went to the last place she should have gone, just to get Remy to help her, I was hooked. I just loved Rachel. On the surface she seems to be made of glass and there were moments when I found myself worrying that she would actually break, but it turns out she is also strong as hell. Especially with Remy by her side. And Remy. Just like his brothers, he believed that being a Bomar meant that he didn't deserve happiness. But just like his brother's women, Rachel saw right through the whole Bomar facade and only saw the real Remy, not the one that people made him out to be. They were both dealt a crap hand at life and had to go through some tough stuff, but together they made each other's lives perfect.
“Remy?”

“Hmm?” He stroked a big hand up and down her back before settling it right above her ass again.

“This is nice.” He tugged her even closer, which she hadn’t thought was possible, “Mmm, it’s a lot better than nice.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah. I just watched my little brother get married. He’s happy and he’s gonna be so good to Jemma and that baby. I’m here with my family, with you, and that makes me happy. Life’s not just nice…it’s damn near perfect.”
She cuddled her cheek against his chest, “Damn near?”
“Damn near.” He chuckled and she knew it was because she’d cursed.

He’d told her this week that she sounded ridiculous when she cursed. He said she was so sweet and innocent that the words didn’t seem threatening at all. She’d made a point of throwing more of them into their conversations just to hear that laugh of his she loved so much.

“I think I know what would make it perfect.” She bit her lip and then leaned back enough that she could look up into his handsome face.

He was looking down at her and her heart immediately jumped at the heat in his dark eyes. He was so good looking it was a little intimidating. She didn’t know what she’d done to deserve someone like Remy looking at her as if he was the lucky one but she hoped he never stopped.

“What’s that, baby?”

“There’s something I want to tell you, something I’ve wanted to tell you for…well, for a long time.” She pushed forward when she saw his Adam’s apple bob as he swallowed hard, “I’m not saying it because you said it. I’m not saying it because I feel like I owe you for all that you’ve done for me. I’m saying it because it’s true and because I don’t want to go another day or even another hour without you knowing that everything you feel is what I feel and everything you want is what I want.”

Remy’s grip on her tightened momentarily, as if he wanted to hold onto her, “What are you saying, Rachel?”

“I-I-I’m saying…” She took a deep breath, let it out and tried to calm her racing heart because she didn’t want to stutter when she said this, not this, “I love you, Remy Bomar.”

He sucked in a sharp breath and one of his hands moved to her face, cupping her cheek and tilting her head back so she had to look him in the eye, “Say it again. Look me in the eyes and say it again.”

*sigh* I love them so much.

But to talk about the actual plot for a second. Rachel knows more about the assault on Colt that occurred in the last book than she is letting on, but for good reason. Of course the family is trying to figure out what happened and that means we get to know more about them. I'm still on the fence about Lincoln, but I am all about Bentley & Ford. Especially Ford!! Talk about a heart of gold beneath an extremely rough exterior. I need more!! Jess has created such a wonderful world with the Bomar boys and I am always left wanting more...this book is no exception.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Gah! I don't even know how to start this review. This book ripped my heart out and then slowly put it back together. I'm not sure that I can express how much I loved this book, but I will do my best.

While reading Intertwined you will find the following things:

✔ Great characters

✔ A fantastic story
✔ A plot twist or two that made me be like "Say whaaaaaaaaat?"
✔ Hot sex
✔ Happy moments
✔ Sad moments
✔ Some very scary moments
✔ Moments that made me ugly cry and curse the author
✔ The desire to start drinking whiskey (if you don't already)

Sounds good, right?

Isla and Liam have known each other for years. They both have suffered tragedies that altered the course of their lives. Tragic, soul destroying things that have made them the people they are today. Up until now, they have been friends who sleep together and nothing else. Until one day, they're not just friends who sleep together. Here's the thing...neither of them really do relationships. They don't want the attachment, but when Liam decides to make a serious change in his life, he marches straight into Isla's and turns it upside down.

I loved Isla and I want to be best friends with her, but it took me a while to warm up to Liam. It's not that he is unlikable, he's just hard to read. When I started the book I was on the fence, but he truly cares for Isla and she trusts him. And the list of people she trusts is very tiny, so I gave the guy a chance. And I'm so glad I did.

I won't go into detail because you really should read this book knowing as little as possible, but I will say that all of the things I listed above, among others, make this an exceptional book. The author has poured so much heart and emotion into this story and it shows. Intertwined is an angsty, but gorgeous masterpiece that will give you a massive book hangover.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Lizzie works for the Met and has finally convinced her boss to let her lead a major exhibit. The theme is old Hollywood. Lizzie loves the classics. Movies that show what she considers to be real romance. Handsome men who knew how to woo a woman. Beautiful women who didn't put with the kind of things that women have to deal with today. Unfortunately for her, a colleague she has to work with is a guy with whom she had a very embarrassing night New Years Ever about three years ago. Jake thinks that Lizzie's notions about romance are silly and their working relationship is tenuous at best.

Poor Lizzie. After a string of bad dates and all she wanted to do was vent to her sister about the horrible state of dating and the lack of romance in the world, but then her rant ends up on the internet for the whole world to see. Her self imposed man strike is now public and making every aspect of her life a bit difficult. Then throw in the fact that Lizzie and Jake are actually very attracted to each other, but neither one actually wants to admit it and Lizzie is having a rough time.

This book was so entertaining. Lizzie's dates, while pretty terrible, are also very funny and I found myself laughing out loud more than once. I also found myself on Team Lizzie and Jake. The sexual tension between them was about as thick as it could get and I was just waiting for the moment when they gave into their feelings. Not everything between them was tense and they actually had some sweet moments. Those were my favorite parts.

This book is a light and funny read. Plus, it takes place in New York City, which is where I live. I love reading books that take place in NYC. It's nice to be able to visualize the exact locations while reading. Lila keeps putting out great books and I can't wait to see what she give us next.
