RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW: A Wonderful Lie by Carrie Aarons

A secret holiday romance between coworkers who talk love and dating on competing podcasts? Say no more! Carrie Aarons' just released A Wonderful Lie, which is a workplace rivals, reverse grumpy/sunshine romance that will give you all the feels you crave during the festive months!

It's the perfect spicy read to pair with a cozy blanket and some hot cocoa ... don't worry, your newest golden retriever book boyfriend will also warm you up! *wink wink*

Blurb

Everyone lies around the holidays. We lie about the money we’re spending. We lie that we’re following our diets.

What am I lying about this year? The fact that my workplace nemesis has become my friend-with-benefits.

Collin Machlan and I have been each other’s competition since we joined our college’s radio station freshman year. Six years later, we’re both hosting shows for the country’s most popular podcast network.

Just as everything starts turning red and green, our boss announces a promotion, and whoever gets the most listens during this merry season will be crowned the winner.

There is just one catch; the only way to draw an audience in December is to theme every episode around Christmas. For a woman who typically celebrates alone with takeout and slasher flicks, I’m at a big disadvantage.

Going toe-to-toe with the guy I’ve never been able to intimidate is only made harder by the fact that Collin doesn’t seem to want to play our usual games. Add in some mistletoe and a Secret Santa swap, and I finally give in to his shameless flirting.

Maybe it’s the delusion of cuffing season, but suddenly I’m spending every night with him. No one at work knows. Neither does his family, or my friends. I lie that it’s just physical. That me, a self-proclaimed bachelorette, couldn’t possibly be on the brink of a relationship. I lie that we’re still competing for a job he doesn’t even want.

Until one too many lies threatens to topple my life like a crooked tree with poorly-distributed ornaments. And I’m left to decide between my lonely and blue traditions, or a love that lasts all year round.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Collin and Lark have known each other since college and there has always been a bit of a rivalry between them. They are both very good at their jobs and now they find themselves competing for a new time slot that can help their careers.

I do enjoy when a couple in a book is like "let's do this friends (or in their case enemies) with benefits things developing feelings for each other." In this case Collin already has minor feelings for Lark and spending time with her just makes those feelings grow.

I love banter between love interests and Collin and Lark had some great banter in this book. In this case, Lark was the grumpy one who disliked Christmas and Collin was completely full of the Christmas spirit. Throughout the book he slowly bring Lark around to his side of things, but it's not easy. She has completely valid reasons for disliking the holiday, but Collin is persistent. And he prevails.

This book is sweet and spicy with some humor thrown in. If you like holiday themed stories, you should definitely check this one out!

RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW: Open Fire (Florida Glaze, #3) by ME Carter

His chestnuts will be roasting…

With just 24 hours to hang out with his dad, Becker Bell is determined to get home for Christmas. Things aren’t looking promising. Multiple delays are making it harder than necessary to get where he needs to be, leaving him frustrated and even worse… bored. That is, until a scattered redhead is knocked right off her feet in front of him.

Sloan Webster just wants to be with her family for the holidays. However, between security mishaps and several hours’ worth of delays, it seems the universe is against her. But when an unexpected good Samaritan offers his assistance, things begin looking up.

Maybe there’s time for a Christmas miracle after all…

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Sloan and Becker find themselves stranded at an airport, trying to get home for Christmas. Initially on their own, they discover they are on the same flight and have plenty of time to kill, so they spend it together. There isn't a ton to do in the airport, but they definitely find ways to entertain themselves and in the process, they get to know each other.

Now, there isn't a lot of spice in this book, but honestly, it didn't need it. But there is a lot of possibility of spice. It's clear that Sloan and Becker like each other, but their current situation is being stranded at the airport with lots of other people. And they are headed home to see family, but they will eventually be back in the same city. Lots of possibilities.

I started this book while I was on a couple hour bus ride and I was able to finish it while I was still on the bus ride. It was an absolute delight and I couldn't put it down!

Author Bio

My name is ME Carter and I have no idea how I ended writing books. I'm more of a story teller (the more exaggerated the better) and I happen to know people who helped me get those stories on paper.

I love reading (read almost 300 books last year), hate working out (but I do it anyway because my trainer makes me), love food (but hate what it does to my butt) and love traveling to non-touristy places most people never see.

I live in Houston with my four kids, Mary, Elizabeth, Carter and Bug, who was just a twinkle in my eye when I came up with my pen name. Yeah, I'll probably have to pay for his therapy someday for being left out.

UNTYING THE KNOT, a brand new steamy, witty, emotional romance full of heart and humor from USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn, is Now Available in all formats! Dive into this romantic comedy sure to keep you on your toes. One-click your copy today!

A spin-off from the #1 Amazon bestsellers, A Not So Meet Cute and So Not Meant To Be, USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn brings you a heart-warming, yet hilarious full-length novel on what life is like after the happily ever after.

Ryot Bisley is my husband.

Yes, the former third baseman for the Chicago Bobbies and absolute heart throb of the Windy City. That Ryot Bisley.

The first time I ran into him, he was grumpy, a horrific host, and left me on his sofa with nothing but a nylon baseball flag to use as a blanket.

The second time, he reluctantly bought me dinner, stared at my chest the entire night, and still sported that permanent frown.

The third time . . . well, that was a game changer. His smile captured me, his teasing charmed me, and his touches excited me.

So when he was called up to the majors that didn’t stop us from knocking it out of the park and all the way down the aisle.

Eleven years later…I’d love to say we’re happy as ever but the man who sent me dirty text messages every day is long gone and Mr. Frowny Face is back.

He’s so focused on trying to build a life after baseball that he doesn’t see the life we’ve already created together. . .so I make the hard decision and serve him divorce papers.

Problem is…my husband refuses to accept those papers. Instead, he has a new game plan that makes untying the knot of our marriage a little tricky. And just when I thought I wanted to be traded . . . he's slowly, tantalizingly roping me back in.

Jason Clarke and Stella Hunter narrate this sexy romance in duet and bring Ryot and Myla to life! You won't want to miss this audiobook and all the heat and emotions they bring to it. One-click your copy and get your newest eargasm today!

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

The marriage in trouble trope is not my favorite. If I had to put it in a top ten list of my favorite tropes, it would definitely be at the bottom. Having said that, I didn't dislike this book, but I also didn't love it.

I didn't just like Ryot, I freaking LOVED him. The book is told in the past and present so we get to see how their relationship developed and how they got to where they are today. Their first meeting was actually quite terrible and they go through periods of time where they are apart and not even communicating besides creeping on each other's Instagram accounts. (That made me laugh because that is definitely something people do.) But then they do reconnect and Myla does not want a relationship so they decide to be friends. Yup. Friends. Ryot has to play the long game and he did it masterfully!

To say that Ryot is blindsided when Myla serves him with divorce papers is putting it lightly. He doesn't understand why, but that doesn't stop him from declaring that he isn't going to give her up without a fight. Yes, he and Myla had a few rocky months in their marriage, but once he realized where he went wrong, he went all out to prove to her that he not only still loved her, but he wanted to make their marriage work. Cue the swoon behavior.

I had a love/hate relationship with Myla. She has a super complicated past, so that colored a lot of her decision making, and I understood that, but at the same time I couldn't help but dislike how she handled things.

And what is it with this author writing side characters that I dislike? Some of her recent books have some unlikable characters in them. I really wanted to like Myla's best friend Nicole, but she got on my nerves so much. I know she was just trying to be a friend, but I felt as though she overstepped multiple times when it came to Myla and Ryot's relationship.

I did enjoy the crossover characters from the author's previous books. My only problem is I have the memory of a goldfish and it takes me a bit to put all the pieces together. But I always love to revisit characters and see how they are doing.

Quarterback Holden Moore can have any girl he wants.
Except me: the coach's daughter.

With piercing green eyes, herculean biceps, and irresistible dimples, Holden is the number one target for every girl on campus. But according to his teammates, football is the only love of his life.

He's their leader, their QB1 and team captain who is all business and no play.

I remind him I'm off limits.
He can't have me, and I don't want him—or anyone else, for that matter.

I'm here for one reason: to show my father I'm more than his greatest disappointment.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

I love when a character thinks they are broken. I love it even more when they find that person who convinces them they are anything but. On the surface, Holden may not seem like the right person for Julep, but there is a lot more to him than being the QB.

I really enjoyed watching Holden and Julep's relationship form. Of course she finds herself attracted to him, but at first she wants nothing to do with him. The last things she wants is to get involved with a football player, especially one that plays for her father. But with them being neighbors and her working for the football team, she finds herself in his orbit more and more. And I'm sure you can guess what happens.

Holden was top tier book boyfriend material. The end of the book was just..... *chef's kiss*. Let's just say that I really enjoy a fantastic declaration of love. This book is full of emotion, great banter and plenty of steam. This whole series has been giving us amazing couples and amazing book boyfriends. I'm excited to see what Kandi gives us next!

Meet Kandi

Kandi Steiner is an Amazon Top 5 bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing "emotional rollercoaster" stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you're a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she's your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women's Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her "freedom of press."

She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn't writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, planning her next adventure, or pole dancing (yes, you read that right). She enjoys live music, traveling, playing with her fur babies and soaking up the sweetness of life.

RELEASE BLITZ & 5 STAR REVIEW: A Little Too Close (Madigan Mountain #2) by Rebecca Yarros

Nine years ago, Weston Madigan saved me. I came to Colorado penniless, heartbroken, and pregnant, searching for a fresh start. Weston gave me a job at his family’s resort, then left the next day and never returned, not even to visit.

Then I stumble in on Weston cooking breakfast shirtless—gloriously, inappropriately shirtless—in the shared kitchen of my duplex in employee housing. Given the shock on both our faces, he wasn’t expecting a roommate either, let alone two.

The growly pilot is only home to start his family’s new heli-skiing operation. I can handle being his temporary roommate, right? Chemistry and attraction aren’t impossible to ignore when you agree on ground rules. Besides, even with those gorgeous, brooding brown eyes, the guy is a walking thundercloud…until my daughter, Sutton, makes him laugh and he smiles at me. Then everything changes. Cue inconvenient heart flip.

This is only temporary.
I can’t fall for Weston.
I. Will. Not. Fall. For. Weston.
But rules go out the window when you’re a little too close.

Grab this Madigan Brothers book today!

My Review

I received an advanced copy of the book with the promise of an honest review.

Weston is a no nonsense guy who is returning home kind of against his will. I say that because returning home may be he last thing he wants, but it is also the thing he needs to do. Returning home means working for the family business, which also means opening old wounds.

Callie had a brief encounter with Weston when she first came to town, but he left the next day and the two don't see each other again until they find themselves as roommates, along with Callie's daughter, Sutton. Rules are drawn up and boundaries are placed, but Callie makes it her mission to break Weston's grumpy exterior and with the help of Sutton, she sees it as a real possibility.

I really love the moment when two characters finally give in to their feelings. Callie knows it is probably a bad idea to develop feelings for Weston and Weston is determined to never give his heart to another person, but these two have wonderful chemistry and eventually they just can't take it anymore. It's so good!

There is nothing better than a good book with the grumpy/sunshine trope. And this is what the author has given us. This book is funny and full of feelings and while I don't think I cried (Rebecca's books almost always make me cry), this book did tug at my heartstrings. Weston forms an adorable relationship with Callie's daughter Sutton and those two just made me smile with how much they loved each other.

I admit that I did not read the other books in this series, but I am definitely going to read them because I am very curious about the other brothers.

RELEASE BLITZ & 4 1/2 STAR REVIEW: Runaway Groomsman by Meghan Quinn

“He runs from the altar—and finds love in the place he least expects.”

RUNAWAY GROOMSMAN, a brand new, heartfelt romantic comedy from USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn about new beginnings and finding the romanticized happily ever after in the most unlikely of places, is Now Available in all formats! Dive into this slow burn romance with “a healthy dose of humor and heart” (Library Journal). One-click your copy today!

Hollywood screenwriter Sawyer Walsh knows a good love story when he sees it. But when it comes to real life romance, he’s a mess. That’s how he finds himself standing at the altar…as his ex-girlfriend ties the knot with his very famous best friend. The pressure, the resentment, the media coverage—it’s all too much—and before he knows exactly what he’s doing, he’s making a run for it, leaving a shocked congregation and flashing cameras in his wake.

Needing to lie low amid the media fallout, Sawyer lands in the charming town of Canoodle, California, where he crosses paths with Fallon Long, who runs the Canoodle Cove Cabins, a family-owned business and Sawyer’s new short-term residence. Overwhelmed with renovations and her long list of responsibilities, Fallon is struggling to make ends meet while attempting to bring the cabins back to their original glory. So when Sawyer arrives, she is grateful for the income, but immediately writes him off as just another vapid Hollywood hack, until he begins to prove her wrong at every turn.

As Fallon comes closer to saving the family business, an undeniable bond forms between her and the handsome screenwriter. But the pressures of her family obligations and Sawyer’s notoriety might prove to be too much for anyone to handle. Could Canoodle be the setting for a new romance—or is true love just a Hollywood cliché?

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Sawyer needs to lay low for a little bit and finds himself in Canoodle, California. He's drunk, wearing a ridiculous tux and needs a place to stay. Luckily for him, he meets Fallon and she provides him with that place. It only takes a day for Sawyer to realize that Canoodle is a place where he lick his wounds and wait for things to go back to normal.

And that is when things get interesting. Fallon is in the middle of renovating and through a bit of mistaken identity, Sawyer finds himself taking part in those renovations. Without Fallon knowing about it. That was actually one of the things I liked best about this book. Sawyer enjoyed the work and it allowed him to get to know Fallon's grandfather, but it also made him feel useful.

Throughout his stay he ends up helping Fallon and they  become friends. The slow burn comes in because when the book starts Fallon has a boyfriend, but I can assure that this book is safe. And to be honest I love when a couple is friends first and that is exactly what Sawyer and Fallon become....friends.

The entire time I was reading this book, I was picturing it as a movie. It had a very Hallmark-y feel to it. Like most Hallmark movies, it is a slow burn and while I don't always like reading slow burns, I really loved this one. While it has that Hallmark feel to it, this book also brings the spice...it just takes a bit to get there. And it is totally worth it!

RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW: Once Forbidden, Twice Shy by Carries Aarons

Running from your problems only brings you hurtling face first into even worse baggage.

After experiencing a brutal trauma in New York that I’d rather bury than address, escaping to a new job in London seems like the perfect solution. That was before I was introduced to my new boss, who is none other than my brother’s best friend. You know, the one I’ve been head-over-heels in love with forever.

Jack Merrick had been my crush since I knew what one was. For years we fought the feelings; I didn’t want to humiliate myself and his excuse was not betraying my brother or parents, who had accepted him as their own. Then, the night of my college graduation party, he undressed me in my childhood bedroom and confirmed that there was no one else on this earth for him but me.

When I woke the next morning he was gone, off to take a job as a coder halfway around the world. Four years and a mangled heart later, Jack is the last person I expect to see in London, and something close to fate is tricking me into thinking this is more than a coincidence. Our shared love of programming has always connected us, but now it’s the thing we’re weaponizing to get back at each other.

Until one night, when the emotional scars from my attack resurface and he’s the only one to witness a massive breakdown. He coaxes out my secrets and swears to love and protect me like he couldn’t before. But with everything stacked against us, I’m not sure we can ever have what we’ve always dreamed of.

Except just as we’re beginning to tackle those obstacles, I learn the truth of why he left all those years ago. And suddenly there may be no future for us at all.

My Review

I received an advance copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Taylor moves to London to start a new job and the last person she expects to see is the guy who shattered her heart, aka her brother's best friend, Jack. Then things get even more complicated when it turns out Jack is her boss. But unbeknownst to Taylor, Jack has always regretted the way things ended between them and is willing to play by Taylor's rules.

Things change (because of course they do) when Taylor injures herself and Jack, thanks to Taylor's family, comes to her rescue. It's at that point that Taylor's well formed "everything is fine" persona starts to fall apart and she actually lets Jack in.

Brother's best friend and a (kind of) second chance romance? I'm in! I always like books where the main characters have a history and can build on what is already there. Taylor and Jack have some issues to work through and doing that will allow them to be together. Their journey is a good one and I enjoyed it a lot.

CW: talk of robbery/assault (past event), anxiety,
 infertility
