AP - Synopsis.jpg

Kyrie Kent hates baseball. She hates players even more. When her best friend drags her to a Ravens game, she spends the innings reading a book… Until she gets a glimpse of the closer—a pitcher who draws her like magnet. Fighting her attraction to Easton Holliday is easy. All she has to do is keep her distance, avoid the ballpark, and keep her head down. At least, all that would have worked, but Easton doesn’t intend to let Kyrie walk so easily. When another player vies for Kyrie’s attention, Easton will swing for the fences. But will Kyrie strike him out or let him steal home?

Full disclosure: This is an erotic romance full of hot guys in tight baseball pants, even more guys in tight baseball pants who know how to swing a big stick, and explicit sex.

My Review

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. I laughed out loud multiple times (once I was in a Starbucks and got lots of strange looks) while reading it and I had a hard time putting it down.

The book opens with Kyrie and her friend Nikki attending a baseball game. Nikki's boyfriend is the catcher so they have great right behind home plate. Kyrie is so disinterested in the game that she is reading her Kindle (A Kindle! At a baseball game!) and that made me laugh. It is because of her disinterest in the game that she catches the eye of the pitcher, who also happens to be best friends with Nikki's boyfriend, Braden. Easton is totally intrigued by her and he begs Braden to introduce them. What ensues is a pretty awful first/blind (on Kyrie's part) date that made me both laugh and feel for Kyrie. You really got the sense that she was hurt pretty badly in the past and she was trying her best to resist Easton, but it turns out the guy is irresistible. He pursued Kyrie and eventually won her over, but their happiness is short lived when Kyrie's past comes back in the most unexpected way.

Kyrie did not immediately fawn all over Easton because he was a professional athlete and I loved that. She made him work to get her interest and when we learn the reason why, I understood her a lot better. But at the same time it was clear that Easton was not the guy she assumed him to be. (There were a lot of assumptions being made in this book.) I really liked Easton and Kyrie as a couple. Turns out her he really was a down to earth, sweet and thoughtful guy. (And also quite the dirty talker, which was SUPER hot. SEE THE EXCERPT BELOW.) They both fall pretty hard for each other, which makes things that much more difficult when their relationship hits the skids.

I need to talk about Easton's sister, Kasey, for a second. I liked her. I really did. The way she was introduced into the story was hilarious and when she made an appearance after their first "date" I found myself once again laughing out loud, in public. But there were these moments when she seemed to be the one person who could get through to Easton when he needed it most and that was a major plus to the story. But having said that, she had these moments when her actions/words were way over the top. I did find her to be funny and I loved those sweet moments between her and Easton, but there were a few times when I found myself thinking "Okay...let's reel it in a little bit."

Overall I really liked this book and would definitely read any future books that authors may put out, especially if they are sports related. What can I say? I'm a sucker for a sports romance.

I squirmed, the tension already building between my thighs. After the game, I’d wanted to console him. But the moment he’d looked at me in the hallway—his frustration turning to something hotter—all semblance of thought had flown from my mind. And when he’d kissed me? Everything had stopped except his body pressed to mine, his tongue owning me.

But I needed to shut this down. I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath. Too much, too soon. I sat up. “Look, Easton, I didn’t come over here to—”

He leaned over, claiming my mouth with an insistent kiss and pushing me back into the cushions. I put my hands on his chest and tried to shove him away, but he grabbed my wrists and pinned them next to my ears.

His kiss lit me on fire and I couldn’t help but return it, caressing his tongue with mine as he slanted over me, tasting me. When he squeezed my wrists harder, I moaned into his mouth. He worked his knee between my thighs, the thin georgette material of my dress pushing up as he went. God, if he went much farther he’d know how wet I was.

I turned my head, breaking the kiss and taking a breath, but he wasn’t deterred. He fastened his lips to my neck, sucking and licking until goose bumps covered my arms and legs and I arched my back to him. When my pebbled nipples rubbed against his hard chest, I gasped.

He released my wrists and ran his hands down my shoulders, pushing my cardigan and the top of my dress down until my breasts were revealed. The cool air hit them, but soon after his mouth was hot and wet on one while he palmed the other. I dug my fingers into his hair and let my head fall back against the couch.

“Spread your legs.” His voice was sandpaper as he went back to sucking and biting my nipple, my need growing with each nip of his teeth.

I opened my legs and he pushed his knee up higher, until it was almost touching my pussy.

“Wider, Kyrie.” He bit my nipple for emphasis, making me moan and do as he’d said, spreading as wide as I could.

When his knee made contact with me, he hissed. “You’re so hot.”

I dug my nails into his scalp as he switched to my other nipple, giving it the same treatment as he moved his knee against my pussy, steady pressure up and down that had me moving my hips along with him.

Placing a kiss between my breasts, he pulled his knee away and sank to the floor in front of me. He ran his hands up my thighs under my dress and gripped my ass, yanking me forward until I was perched on the edge of the couch.

Looking up at me, his eyes were hooded and the corners of his mouth turned up in a faint smile. Moving his hand around my thigh, he stroked down the wet material of my panties and then back up to my clit. He used his thumb, rubbing my nub through the material and making me ache for more contact.

“You like that?” He asked, the devious smile still playing along his lips. “Tell me.”

“I-I like it.”

“How about this?” He pushed his finger around the fabric of my panties and touched my clit, stroking it in the same motion.

I jumped at the contact and bit my lip. “Yes.” It was a husky whisper.

He licked his lips and my thighs went up in flames.

“Do you want me to kiss you here?” He ran his thumb down and teased it at my entrance.

Say no, say no, say no. “Yes.”

“What if I fuck you here? Ram my cock as deep and hard as I can until you come on a scream. Would you like that?”

No, no, no. “Yes.” I made a keening sound as he plunged his thumb inside me.

“You’d say my name, wouldn’t you?” He pulled his thumb out and licked it clean as I watched.

My heart thumped in my chest and I couldn’t think, only stare as he closed his eyes and relished my taste.

“Say it.” His voice hardened, the edge piercing and ragged.

Heaven help me. “Yes.”
