Title: When We Fall (Take the Fall #2)
Age Group: Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: December 8, 2015

The last time Piper Ross saw her best friend’s sexy older brother, Jase Simmons, he was being taken away in handcuffs. Seven years later, two things haven’t changed: Piper is still head-over-heels in love with him . . . and Forrestville’s chief of police—Piper’s dad—still hates his guts. So when Piper sees a chance to get close to Jase, she makes her move—literally. As his new roommate, and as the office manager of his tattoo shop, Piper won’t be satisfied until Jase knows that she wants to be his.

The quintessential good girl, Piper is pure temptation for Jase. The only reason he’s always kept his distance is because she’s the last person he’d ever want to hurt. But once he realizes that Piper is ready to take the leap, everything just makes sense. Suddenly Jase feels like a new man—until nasty rumors start swirling and Piper’s heartless father stirs up even more trouble. Now Jase must convince Piper that she wasn’t wrong about him . . . because falling in love never felt so right.

My Review

I received an ARC of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was super excited for this book because Marquita set these two up so beautifully in the previous book, Take the Fall. She gave just enough Piper and Jase to make me want more. And to be honest, bad boy/good girl trope is starting to become one of favorites, with these two at the top of that list.

Piper always had a crush on Jase, her best friend Rowan's older brother. They met on her first day of high school and she immediately took to him. And him to her, she just didn't know it. Piper knew that there was more to Jase than the tough guy personality he put out there. She saw the real him. And although Jase thought that Piper was the sweetest thing, she was definitely off limits, ESPECIALLY to him. She was a rich girl that lived a sheltered life and deserved a man much better than Jase. At least that is what Jase thought.

Through a series of unfortunate events, Piper finds herself homeless and without a job. After talking with Jase at a party she not only ends up with a place to live but also a new job. I loved how Piper kind of put him in a position where he couldn't say no. (That's his weakness...he can't say no to Piper._ And that's how they not only ended up as roommates (he has a big house with empty bedrooms), but also as coworkers (the tattoo shop he works at needed help).

When Piper comes to live with Jase, he initially tries to push her away. But like I mentioned before, Jase just can't say no to her. The two of them start a relationship, but Piper has asthma and the combination of living in the old house and the excitement of being with Jase makes her asthma flare up. But Jase has a plan. He not only goes to the doctor with Piper, but he does a wonderfully romantic thing:
“Did you have a good time with Ro?” I ask, meeting her in the hallway.
“Yes. I really needed a girls’day out.” She twirls a strand of hair around her fingers, her gaze turning hot. “Now I need a night in with you.”
I give her a wicked smile. “I have a surprise for you.”
She tilts her head to one side so that her dark hair flows over one shoulder. “You do?”
“Close your eyes, kitten.”
With a happy smile, she squeezes her eyes shut and I lead her down the hallway to my bedroom. “Open.”
Her eyes get huge. “Holy crud.”
I gesture at the center of the room. “New bed, new mattress . . . new everything. I bartered with this guy who owns an eco-friendly cleaning company to come clean everything while you were gone today. He wants a huge back piece in return. Anyway, I had to get this done for you so you could breathe in your own home.”
She blinks rapidly a few times, her gaze bouncing from me to the room and back to me again. “Is that why Rowan kept me out shopping—she hates shopping, even if it was for a wedding dress. Omigosh! I should have known something was up. I can’t believe you did all this for me.”
I nod. “I’d do anything for you—don’t you know that?” That’s just how I operate. Once I’ve fallen for a girl, all bets are off. With Piper, I’ve fallen harder than I ever have before, or maybe it just feels this way because I never allowed myself the possibility of us before.
Either way, I will destroy anyone who tries to take her away from me. This is my sweetness and light. My happiness and peace. Mine.
**SWOON**

I just love Piper and Jase. The two of them couldn't be more different, but  as a couple, they work. Of course there are stumbling blocks along the way. Piper's parents are still around trying to ruin the new life she has built and they don't make it easy. But Piper and Jase's relationship is a strong one and they aren't about to let anything keep them apart. There was a lovely little twist that I didn't see coming and it made me very happy.

This is such a lovely book. There were so many sweet moments that warmed my heart. I loved the fact that Jase was still newly out of jail, trying to make a new life and Piper was also trying to make a new life (a vastly different life) away from the one she grew up in. And for the first time since they have known each other, they were basically on the same footing. I can't think of a better way for them to start their life together.
