The New York Times Best Selling author Nashoda Rose is back with the much anticipated story of Kai and London in the Unyielding series.
Kai
There is nothing I care about.
No attachments.
No connections.
Outwardly, I’m a perfect gentleman.
Until my target sees my knife.
I fear nothing, not even death.
In my world, death is considered a privilege.
But my life comes with unbreakable cruel strings and
when I met her, I should’ve walked away.
I didn’t.
I was too selfish.
And that sealed her fate.
Because one week with me led her into the hands of ruin.
London
We all have unique layers that make up who we are.
What makes us vulnerable or strong.
What we fear and what excites us.
But peel back those layers and you’re left naked and exposed.
They did that to me.
Each piece was slowly stripped away then burned.
I merely existed.
But there was one layer they overlooked.
The most important of them all—the tie to one man.
The man responsible for me being this way.
The man who found me.
And the killer who would do anything to protect me.
Perfect Ruin is the dark erotic story of Kai and London.
Their beginning.
And the continuing story of Vault.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
We met Kai in the previous books in this series. He was this mysterious and intriguing character that I couldn't quite figure out. Was he good? Was he bad? And why does he care so much about the girl named Raven? Luckily in this book, I got all those answers.
I really want to call Kai a killer with a heart of gold, but that wouldn't be accurate. He's more like a killer with a soft spot. One soft spot. And her name is London. EVERYTHING he does is for her. His actions may not always make sense and it may seem like he doesn't have a plan, but he does. He always does. He will do ANYTHING to make sure that London stays safe. Even if that means abandoning her. But early in the book Kai makes a promise to London. A promise that he will "Always come for her." And he does. Repeatedly.
Kai and London first meet when she overhears Kai threatening her father. Her father has been working for Vault, but his productivity is not up to Vault's standard. After hearing the ultimatum Kai gives her father, London steps up to the plate. She will give herself over to him for a week if they allow her father more time to work. Kai excepts and it is from there that their story unfolds.
Like the rest of Nashoda's books, this one is a hard read at times. We get thrown back into Raul's world of human trafficking and all the loose pieces of the puzzle finally get put together. We were previously given glimpses of London's life, but it is here where we get the full story. We find out how she ended up there and most importantly, why she ended up there. Her journey is a tough one and there were moments where my heart broke for her, but also moments where I wanted to give a her a high five for overcoming all the obstacles she faced. Like the women in the books before her, London is a bad ass. And she proves that point time and time again.
Kai and London's story is not your typical love story. Sent to the "farm" at a young age, Kai has been trained to feel nothing. To do whatever is necessary to get the job done. He's an assassin. And he definitely should not have feelings for her. Kai tries to fight those feelings, but he just can't help himself. London sees the person that is still underneath the man he has become, but only because he gives up just enough to let her see it. Kai has lived the opposite of a normal life, but with London he has these moments of normalcy that make him earn for a life with her. Nothing about this should be romantic, but it is. So props to the author for her amazing skills.
I think Kai & London's relationship can be summed up by the below passage:
Nashoda Rose is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who lives in Toronto with her assortment of pets. She writes contemporary romance with a splash of darkness, or maybe it’s a tidal wave.
When she isn't writing, she can be found sitting in a field reading with her dogs at her side while her horses graze nearby. She loves interacting with her readers and chatting about her addiction—books.

I think Kai & London's relationship can be summed up by the below passage:
He kissed the top of my head. “London.” I tilted my neck so I could look up at him. “Loving you is like finding the light. I can’t ever lose that again, baby. I won’t.”
I slid my hand up over his chest, the rough scars beneath my palms until my finger brushed his lips. “The light was always there, you just had to believe it was. And I’m not going anywhere.”
He lowered his head and I moved up to meet his lips.
It was a slow, tantalizing kiss that caused goose bumps and quivers, and made me want him all over again.
When he drew back, his cocky smirk was there. I loved that smirk. I loved that he could change in a flash from serious to playful to intense. But most of all, I loved that he was resilient. Unyielding. Kai never gave up.
He never gave up on me.Just like he said.
