Nothing good comes after the third date.

See, date three is the crucial point when things get real, which is exactly why I bounce out the door, twiddling my fingers at whatever poor boy I’ve left behind. Because if I stick around, one of three things will happen: he’ll profess his undying love, he gets weird and stalky, or I’ll go crazy. Like, Sid and Nancy crazy. Like, chase-him-through-the-streets-begging-him-to-love-me crazy.

Seriously, it’s better for everyone this way.

So when I meet Bodie, I figure it’ll be the same as it ever was. It doesn’t matter that he doesn’t put a single string on me. Doesn’t matter that he’s funny and smart and jacked and can play my body like a grand piano. Because even though I’m built for love, love has only carved me up like a Christmas ham.

Resistance is something I can only hang on to for so long, and he has persistence in spades. But my heart isn’t as safe as I want to believe, and neither is his. And the second I ignore my cardinal rule is the second I stand to lose him forever.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Penny has rules when it comes to men. Three dates and that's it. She doesn't let herself get attached to a guy because when she does it almost never ends well. She lets the little devil on her shoulder, Peggy, take over and nothing good ever comes from that. Then Penny meets Bodie. Or I should say, Penny is reunited with Bodie. In high school he was the best friend of her jerk boyfriend and played white knight to Penny's damsel in distress more than once. She doesn't recognize him at first, but once she does she is more than happy to see him.

Bodie can't believe his luck when he see Penny. He always had feelings for her, but she only had eyes for his best friend. After their amazing night together, Penny makes it very clear that she does not do relationships. But they decide to see each other again and Penny has every intention of sticking to her three date rule. Meanwhile Bodie is determined to change Penny's mind about dating, without her realizing it.

These two...GAH! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH. They were so ridiculously good together! And they already knew each other, so they didn't have the awkward "get to know you" phase. And Brodie was just the swooniest. Sweet. Sexy. Caring. Funny. The guys tells the best corny math jokes. I didn't even know this was a thing I liked until Brodie started telling them. Corny jokes as foreplay? YES PLEASE. Their relationship is intense, but also fun and sexy. I didn't want the book to end. PENNY & BRODIE 4-EVA.

There is something about Staci's writing that makes me feel all the feelings. Maybe it's because I can always see a little bit of myself in her characters. Or maybe it's because Staci's writing is just so good. Either way, I ALWAYS look forward to reading her books and this was no exception.

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. From roots in Houston to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she's not writing, she's reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.
