Moments.

Our lives are a collection of moments. Some utterly painful and full of yesterday's hurts. Some beautifully hopeful and full of tomorrow's promises.

I’ve had many moments in my lifetime, moments that changed me, challenged me. Moments that scared me and engulfed me. However, the biggest ones—the most heartbreaking and breathtaking ones—all included him.

I was ten years old when I lost my voice. A piece of me was stolen away, and the only person who could truly hear my silence was Brooks Griffin. He was the light during my dark days, the promise of tomorrow, until tragedy found him. Tragedy that eventually drowned him in a sea of memories.

This is the story of a boy and girl who loved each other, but didn’t love themselves. A story of life and death. Of love and broken promises.

Of moments.

(Book Three in the Elements Series. Complete Standalone.)

My Review

I received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book is by far the best book I have read this year. Talk about a massive book hangover!! I knew that it would make me cry (the other two books in the series did), but I didn't think it would make me feel ALL the feelings. And I'm not sure my review can do this book justice, but I am going to do my best.

This book grabbed my attention from the very beginning. We meet six year old Maggie and her father as they are moving in with with his girlfriend Katie, and her two children. That night while Maggie is in bed crying, Calvin's friend Brooks bring her a night light. And the rest, they say, is history. As the two of them grow up, Maggie is clearly in love with Brooks, but he wants nothing to do with her. She writes him silly letters and he only replies because his older brother makes him. Before we know it, ten year old Maggie starts to plan their wedding in the woods and Brooks reluctantly goes along with it. Unfortunately for both of them, that wedding in the woods would be the catalyst for a horrific event that would take Maggie's voice.

You okay today?

That one little question Brooks asks Maggie changed everything. As they grow older, Maggie and Brooks become the best of friends. They read the same books and make notes for the other person. They sit for hours and listen to music. She encourages him to go after his dreams, even if those dreams take him away from her. And he encourages her as well. Maggie keeps a to do list of all the things she wants to do and despite what other people thing, Brooks just knows that she will do all of those things one day. He truly believes in her. And she doesn't have to speak for him to understand her. He just does. She is his Maggie May.

Y'all. I was not prepared for how often this book made me cry. Whether is was a declaration of love from Brooks or the crappy way someone treated Maggie, I was often on the subway trying not to make a spectacle of myself. I enjoyed the previous two books in this series, but this one just touched me on a deeper level. Brittainy's writing is just on another level. She knows how to make you feel whatever the characters are feeling. You get mad with them. Sad with them. You are happy when they are happy. You just feel ALL the feelings.

As a young man Brooks makes a promise to Maggie. Little did he know that that promise would be what ultimately brought her back to him and him to her. It was such an amazing moment and one that made me want to tell everyone to read this book. I don't really want to say anything more about the plot because to get the full effect a person should really know nothing about it, but I will say that Maggie and Brooks' love is one for the ages. Brooks Griffin is EVERYTHING and is now my book boyfriend for life.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When you are done, make sure to read the letter from the author. The book will be elevated to a whole new level when you read that note and if you are anything like me, you may shed a few more tears. Thank you Brittainy for sharing your story with us and writing what might be one of the best books I have EVER had the pleasure to read.
