Welcome to Smalltown, USA!

Where everyone knows everyone else and your problems aren't just your own!




I love small town romances. There is just something about books that take place in small towns. Maybe it is the sense of community. Or the quirky characters. Or how everyone is all up in everyone else's business. Or maybe it is because books are often lighthearted. Or maybe it is all of the above. I feel like these are the books where I am going to find a second chance romance or a friends to lovers story, which are my favorite tropes. You know what I mean...guy/girl returns home for whatever reason and runs into his or her high school sweetheart while shopping at the one grocery store. Or maybe the person they run into is the brother or sister of their best friend and WOW, did they grow up. (LOVE THOSE!)

And I know, there are LOTS of small town romances out there and everyone has their favorites, but these are just some of the books (all part of a series!) that I have read and enjoyed. I hope you find some new books to read and add them to your TBR!

And now two authors I consider to be the queens of small town romance: Jill Shalvis and Susan Mallery!! If you are willing to settle in and commit to a long term relationship with a book series, these are for you.

I started reading these books long before I started this blog, so I don't have any formal reviews for their books. And with the more recent books, those are the ones that I sit back and read "for fun." But you don't worry, you really can't go wrong with any of their books!


Susan Mallery
Fool's Gold Series


I love Susan's Fool's Gold series. There are 20+ books and I've read almost all of them. The author released them in groups of 3 (you can tell by the titles) so those books are somewhat related to each other, but it not necessary to read them in order.

Since this series is so big, you will get a little bit of all the tropes! Check out the series' Goodreads page to find out more.

And I HIGHLY recommend checking out the Fool's Gold section on Susan's website. It has everything you need to know about the books and MUCH MORE. (Like that fun downloadable map up above!)


Jill Shalvis
Lucky Harbor Series


This series has 12 full books (the above image is of the first 3) plus some novellas and like the Fool's Gold series, you get a little bit of all the tropes. Check out the series' Goodreads page or Jill's website where you can read excerpts from each book.

Also check out her Animal Magnetism and Cedar Ridge for some more goodness. I've read and enjoyed those books as well!

AND her blog because you never know if she will be posting a photo of a hot guy, a cute animal or sharing a funny story!

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. 

Bryce and Holly have a great meet cute. He is out mountain bike riding and ends up ass over tea kettle. He finds himself sprawled out on the ground and all of a sudden Holly is there to ask if he is okay. The two share a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and some light banter (I love banter) and they both walk away from his encounter thinking about the other person.

Bryce is in town looking buy an old lodge that he wants to turn into an extreme sports camp for at risk youth, just like the one he went to when he was a kid. When he goes to the local real estate lawyer, he finds Holly. She agress to help him and the two go up to the lodge and make a discovery that has them playing detective. The lodge itself is seeped in scandal and it turns out that it is holding on to a mystery that has the potential to cause more heartache where there has already been a lot. I liked Holly and Bryce together. I thought they had great chemistry that was there from the moment they met. 
“I’d just started eating and I heard you coming.” She leaned back on her heels and tipped her head. “I’ll give your dismount a 9.3, considering the way you stuck the landing without breaking anything.” She winked.
A spark fired inside Bryce and a grin stretched across his face. He was a sucker for a girl who took him at his word and didn’t go all Florence Nightingale on him—especially one who looked like her and had clearly spent her Tuesday morning hiking in the Rockies. There were no easy trails to this ridge above the lodge—he’d confirmed that himself. No wonder she was in such fine shape. 
“Ah, the elusive perfect ten,” he said. “Guess I need more practice.”
From there, they had a lovely conversation, shared that sandwich and started something that neither of them saw coming. 
He glanced at the screen, his eyebrows rising along with his heart rate as he read the contact information she’d typed in.

A winking smiley-face emoji followed, as did the most exciting combination of ten digits he might’ve ever seen.
Bryce’s heart surged. “Definitely the best fall I’ve ever taken,” he said, shamelessly flirting. He slipped the phone into his pocket and leveled a gaze on her as electric as the bright blue sky. “ Maybe I don’t need any more practice.”
Leaving her smiling, he pedaled off, churning up dust from the trail, and feeling like a badass movie hero.
And that was just the first chapter! Throughout the book, their relationship becomes much more than either of them thought possible. They work together to help solve the lodge mystery and learn a lot about each other along the way. Unfortunately, not all of it is good and Holly starts to question everything the two of them shared. 

 This book is a great edition to the series. Tracy always gives her readers a well thought out story that is not only delightful, but leaves her readers happy. And as always, I am looking forward to the next book!

5 Star Review: Should've Said No (Thistle Bend #1) by Tracy March



A year after being laid off from the Smithsonian, Lindsey Simms says yes to a job offer as curator of a heritage museum in Thistle Bend, Colorado (population 1,519). It could be worse—and it is. Because the new museum has escalated a dispute between the Karlssons, Lindsey’s relatives, and the Crenshaws, a blood feud which goes way back to a land deal that changed the fortunes of both families. Trying to stay objective, Lindsey can’t tell anyone about her conflict of interest—especially not the ruggedly handsome handyman fixing up her cabin, who seems to be keeping secrets of his own.

Although he’s the executive director of the family trust and one of Colorado’s most eligible bachelors, Carden Crenshaw prefers getting his hands dirty in town and on his sprawling ranch. Staying busy has given him an excuse not to risk heartbreak, but getting to know the beautiful “museum lady” makes him reconsider. Little does he know, the heat between them will only add fuel to the fire—unless this unlikely couple can prove they’re lovers, not fighters.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. 

I loved everything about this book. It takes place in a small town and has wonderful, quirky characters that know everyone else's business. And then throw in the feuding families and you got a great story.

Lindsey is a distant relative of the Karlssons, who have been at odds with the Crenshaws for years. One family thinks that the other stole land from them, which is a mystery she has to figure out as curator of the town's new museum. She has to not rely on old legal documents, but also stories from the townspeople. Totally removed from the feud, she keeps her real identity hidden so she doesn't cause a controversy. She's also so far removed from the feud that she doesn't

Things get complicated when Lindsey meets Carden, a member of the Crenshaw family. Against their better judgement, the two of them get involved. At first Carden has ulterior motives with Lindsey, but he quickly realizes that she is the real deal. He really doesn't have to worry about Lindsey doing anything but making sure the museum has all the correct history to display. 

As a couple Lindsey and Carden were adorable. There is a little bit of a mistaken identity when they first meet and while it leaves Lindsey a bit embarrassed, it just makes for an adorable meet cute. Lindsey is a bit nervous to get involved with Carden because of a past relationship, but while she may think he is similar to her ex, he definitely is not. I was rooting for these two to work things out and with the help of some people Lindsey meets along the way, they do eventually get their happily ever after. 

I think I have stated this before, but you really can't go wrong with a Tracy March book. Her love stories are fantastic and will leave you with that warm and fuzzy feeling. You can also sit down to read her one of her books and before you know it, you are practically done. I can't wait to read the rest of this series!

Review: The Marriage Match by Tracy March

Synopsis

My Review

 I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I adore Tracy March's books. They are just feel good stories that put me in a good mood and this one is no exception. 

Cynthia, or Cyn for short, is the personal assistant for the town matriarch, Ms. Hawthorne. Ms. Hawthorne has come up with the crazy idea that her grandson Trent needs to find a wife and soon. As part of her job, Cynthia ends up being the one who is in charge of the "Bachelor' style marketing campaign that will not only find a wife for Trent, but double as the new marketing campaign for the family's hotel chain. The hotels are in gorgeous locations and the women Ms. Hawthorne have picked to be her possible future granddaughter in law seem to be perfect for Trent, so what could go wrong?

I loved Cynthia. She is a smart, funny and down to earth chick. As a teenager she was a bit of a wild child, and by helping Ms. Hawthorne with her plan, she is hoping to right some wrongs from her past. And while at first she may not have Trent's best interest at heart, you can't really blame her for that. Fortunately, the more she gets to know Trent, the more she really does want him to be happy. 

Then there is Trent. I really liked him. I was worried that he may be an entitled snob, but that he was the complete opposite. Most people probably wouldn't go along with the plan his grandmother came up with, but Trent did. Talk about a good sport. I think he won me over the first time he sat in from of a camera and answered questions. 
Have I ever been in love? “Not like I’m going to be. I mean, I’m really open to it. Really hoping…”

A spring breeze stirred the leaves in the wax myrtle hedge behind him, cooling the flush that had broken out on his skin.

“Hoping for what, exactly?” Jamie asked.

Trent raced to gather his thoughts during a long silence.

“For someone who captivates me with every little thing about her. Someone who makes me want to be better than I am— perfect for her. For a love that will spark hot and keep burning, the embers always ready to flare.”

Trent and Cynthia become fast friends. They have a great connection that they both start to realize they could become more, but unfortunately Cynthia is not one of Trent's grandmother's choices so she is out of the question. Or is she?

Since this is part of a series, characters from previous books show up throughout the book. I always enjoy seeing how the couples are doing and how they fit into the current story.
