EXCERPT
There’s a loud knock on the conference room door that startles both Jamie and me. She jumps up and opens the door, just as Eddie pops his head inside.

“Sorry to interrupt, ladies,” he starts. “We have the conference room reserved for a client meeting in five minutes.”

I glance at my watch and see that it’s almost nine o’clock. Jamie and I have been in here for almost an hour.

“Shit,” I mumble, grabbing my empty coffee cup. “I have to get to work.”

“Me too,” says Jamie, following me from the conference room back toward our desks.

I stop abruptly, causing Jamie to run into my backside when I see Drew standing in my cube, staring out my window over a cloudy, rainy Manhattan. His hands are shoved into his pockets and his dress shirt is rolled up to his forearms. Tan, muscular arms stick out from under that crisp dress shirt. Even casual, he looks like the powerhouse CEO that he is. My heart rate kicks up a notch at the sight of him.

As Jamie nudges me forward, I clear my throat as I do my best to look unaffected by his presence.

“Mr. McPherson,” I acknowledge him, but don’t look at him. I slide into my desk chair and enter the password to my computer, bringing the screen back to life.

“Good morning,” he says from behind me and I still keep my eyes trained on my computer. “And good morning, Jamie,” he says, acknowledging her.

I glance up at Jamie and see her smile at him knowingly. Dammit, Jamie.

“Morning, Mr. McPherson. Busy weekend getting to know New York City?” she asks him with the kind of innocence only a skilled liar could pull off. I’m going to fucking kill her. I narrow my eyes at her and she winks at me.

I spin around in my chair to look at Drew, whose eyes jump back and forth between us, and I can see he’s picked up that I’ve filled her in. I hang my head in shame and shake my head.

“It was a wonderful weekend,” he tells her honestly.

“Do anything exciting?” she asks, her tone snarky and her questions intruding. “Or anyone?” she says under her breath and I choke.

“Are you okay?” Drew asks me.

“Fine,” I cough out, tossing a glare at Jamie, who giggles and slides into her desk chair. I pick up a pen off my desk and throw it at her. It hits her back. She bursts into laughter and Drew shakes his head in amusement at us.

He leans over my shoulder and whispers into my ear, “I missed you last night.” His warm breath causes me to shiver and catch my breath. “I didn’t like waking up and you not being there,” he continues, knowing the effect he has on me.

I shift in my chair and sit up straight, trying to drown out the throbbing that has started between my legs.

I spin slowly toward him and stop, his face mere inches from mine. “I slept remarkably well,” I tell him.

He smiles. “Liar.”

“I’m not lying,” I whisper.

“You are.” He brushes a knuckle over my top lip and my skin breaks out in goosebumps. “When you lie, your upper lip twitches.” Jesus Christ, this man has me all figured out.

I hold his gaze and my heart stammers in my chest. Looking at him, I can’t help but feel that I’ve missed him too.

“I’d like to meet with you later to go over a few things,” he says, standing up. “How does eleven thirty in my office sound?”

“Sounds fine,” I muster out.

“See you then, Gracie.”

Drew saunters out of my cube and down the hallway. I can’t help it as my eyes follow him as he walks through the rows of cubes until he reaches his office. I notice Jamie watching him too before she spins around in her chair and faces me.

“Holy fuck,” she hisses. “That man has it bad for you.” I look back at Drew’s office and watch the door close before I look at Jamie again.

“I know.” And sadly, I have it just as bad for him.

5 Star Review: Boss Man Bridegroom by Meghan Quinn

BOSS MAN BRIDEGROOM by Meghan Quinn
Release Date: January 23rd
Genre: Contemporary Romance

"Will you do me the greatest honor of all time and be my bridegroom?” she asks, hope in her eyes . . .

How did I get here? My assistant, bent on one knee, holding my hand, her expectant face waiting for an answer.

Just . . . how?

How did I go from being insulted by Charlee Cox to hiring her to be my assistant? How is it that she’s chaos in color - making me crazy and my life better at the same time?

I never thought I would be staring down at her bright blue eyes begging me to go along with this ridiculous scheme I suggested.

Yes, I suggested. Like the idiot I am, I thought hey, why not start an HR nightmare and have my assistant ask me to marry her?

Confused? Don’t worry, so am I.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

I loved this book so much! It had the signature Meghan Quinn humor, but it was also very sweet. I picked it up and had a hard time putting it down.

Charlee might be my favorite female character that Meghan has ever written. She is a whirlwind of positive energy (almost to the point of being annoying) and hilarious. That first scene where she shows up on her first day of work had me laughing out loud and I just pictured Rath standing there, open mouthed and in a state of shock. It. Was. Fantastic.

Once Rath became used to Charlee and her quirks, it was very clear that he needed her in his life. And it turned out, she needed him as well. I loved how their relationship evolved throughout the book to become more than either of them anticipated. It was lovely to watch unfold.

And of course Rath, Bram and Roark are still in the best bromance around. This book has a lot of scenes between Bram and Rath and I lost count how many times these two cracked me up. I'm sad that we won't be seeing these guys in anymore stories, but I am sure that I will find myself rereading their books when I need a good laugh.

4 1/2 Star Review: Hometown Heartless by Carrie Aarons

One year ago, the boy next door was captured as a prisoner of war.

The boy whose window faces mine.
The backyard buddy who bandaged up my skinned knees.
The childhood crush that kept me up at night, wondering if he’d ever be my boyfriend.
The town hero I wrote endless letters to after he shipped out.
The green-eyed charmer who promised me a kiss the day I turned eighteen.

And now, he’s home.
But he didn’t come back as the boy I once knew.
He’s a man now, one with demons I can’t comprehend.
The damaged soldier keeps telling me I’m not his anymore.
That the war took him, turned him into someone unrecognizable.
What he hasn’t considered is that it took me, too.

He swears there is nothing left between us, that his heart died overseas. But with each look through our windows, we both know his lies are just that. With each fated meeting, the truth only becomes more evident.

Everett Brock occupies the shadows now.
And as much as I try to pull him into the light, it seems the switch is permanent.
What he doesn’t realize is that I’m willing to follow him into the darkness.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Everett and Kennedy weren't exactly high school sweethearts, but they have a history that cannot be ignored. So when Everett returns home after being held captive, Kennedy finds herself trying to reach out to a man that is no longer the one she knew.

Kennedy had hoped that she and Everett would be able to pick things up where they left them, but that is definitely not the case. Everett s dealing with a lot of stuff and the only way he knows how to deal is to lash out. He's standoffish and downright mean at times and who could blame him? But underneath it all, he's still Everett, the boy next door and the boy Kennedy fell in love with.

Kennedy is persistent, but also knows when to back off. Before Everett was captured, the two of them exchanged letters and talked of their feelings for the other person. The letters play a big part in Everett's healing and I thought that was a nice touch.

This book is an emotional one. Everett clearly has some things to work through and once he realizes that he can't do it alone, he has his family and Kennedy to help him. It's definitely one of Carrie's most ambitious books and one of her best.

REVIEW TOUR: Country Hearts by Cindi Madsen

We're celebrating the release of Country Hearts by Cindi Madsen! This is a sweet cowboy romance from Hallmark Publishing that you won't want to miss!

Release Date: January 21, 2020

She shouldn't get involved with the cowboy next door...

Laid off from her teaching job in the city, Jemma Monroe takes a job teaching in a tiny town and rents a house on the outskirts. A visitor soon shows up at her door—a horse. His owner, a handsome neighbor in boots and a cowboy hat, comes by to collect him.

When single dad Wyatt Langford meets Jemma, it’s the first time he feels interest in a woman since his wife left. But she’s his daughter’s new teacher, so they both know they should keep their distance.

Nonetheless, Wyatt keeps finding excuses to spend time with Jemma, and Wyatt’s daughter becomes more and more attached to her. With them, Jemma discovers the good things about country life, from starry skies to s’mores cooked over a fire. But she still misses her past life in the city. Is there any reason for them to dream of a future together?

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Jemma has just been laid off from her job and she takes a temporary position for a teacher who has gone on maternity leave. The city girl finds herself out in the country where her first visitor is a horse looking for carrots. Her second visitor is her neighbor, who also is the horse's owner.

Wyatt is an honest to goodness cowboy. He's also a single dad who is raising his adorable daughter, Bailey Rae. (side note: Bailey Rae was absolutely adorable and also hilarious and everything I want from a child character in a book). Taking care of the farm and raising his daughter is pretty much all he has known the last few years so Jemma coming into their lives is a breath of fresh air.

This book is a slow burn (a la Hallmark), but that didn't matter to me. Jemma and Wyatt started as neighbors, but they find themselves growing closer in no time. It helped that Jemma was Bailey Rae's teacher, so between the neighbor thing and the teacher thing, the two of them find themselves in each other's company quite often.

This book is the sweetest! I was left with the warm and fuzzies by the end. And with it being under the Hallmark publishing brand I can easily see it as a movie, so let's just all keep our fingers crossed!

**RATH**

"Rath Westin, my boss, my commander in chief, my Gucci Governor—"

"I don’t wear Gucci."

"Go with it." She winks and clears her throat. "Mr. Big Shot, Barking Britches, and Irritable Ira—"

"Jesus . . . Christ." I rub my hand down my face.

"Will you do me the great honor . . ." She wobbles on her bent knee and clutches my hand to steady herself. "Will you . . ." She tears up, her voice becoming shaky. "I’m sorry, I’ve never done this before."

"I sure as hell hope not," I say through gritted teeth.

"And I didn’t think I’d get emotional either." On a deep breath, she finishes, "Will you do me the greatest honor of all time and be my bridegroom?"

Christ, nothing is ever simple with her.

"Why did you say it like that?"

"Did I not do it right?" she mumbles to herself. "See, I knew I was doing something wrong."

"No, why did you say bridegroom?"

"Oh, well, that’s what you would be. You see, that’s what they used to call men who were soon to be married . . . a bridegroom. But then somewhere along the way they shortened it to groom. But if you marry me, I would give you the dignified pleasure of retaining the honorable title of bridegroom."

"Don’t call me bridegroom."

"Boss man bridegroom?" she asks with a cheeky grin.

How the fuck did I allow myself to get in this position? With my quirky and sometimes annoying but mostly efficient assistant, kneeling in front of me . . . proposing.

Proposing to me.

In a pair of belly-covering slacks and suspenders, hair pulled back into a tight bun like she often wears it, looking up at me through her red-framed glasses, her bright blue eyes shining past the lenses, begging me to go along with this ridiculous scheme I suggested.

Yes, me.

Like the goddamn idiot I am, I thought hey, why not start an HR nightmare and have my assistant ask me to marry her?

Confused?

Don’t worry, so am I.

Where do I even start? Maybe from the beginning?

Here is a quick rundown: my ex, who used to work with me, left me for bigger and better things. We don’t talk about her, ever, because she took my heart with her. Instead, I buried myself in my work. I became a hermit in my office, firing one assistant after another because they weren’t good enough or their voice annoyed me, or they thought salt was sugar and gave me one bad cup of coffee that ended their career at Westin Enterprises—that mistake was on them.

In my spare time—not that there’s much—but when I do have spare time, I follow my two idiot friends around the city, helping them avoid fucking up their lives. But now that they’re both in loving and committed relationships, one planning a wedding with my sister as the bride, I have much more time on my hands.
Maybe they’re to blame for my demise, for this ridiculous charade I’m now a part of.

What does this have to do with my assistant proposing to me?

Well, you see, I was in the market for yet another new assistant, and that’s when one of my best friends, Bram, suggested I lean on his assistant, Linus, to help me find someone. Side note: Linus is a gift from God, and I’ve offered him huge pay raises many times to jump ship and join my company, but his loyalty lies with Bram . . . unfortunately.

So Linus helped me find an assistant, and that’s where it started to go downhill.

The minute I saw her, I knew it wasn’t going to be a good fit.

Why?

Because she’s too goddamn beautiful.

Because she’s far too bubbly.

Because with every smile and checklist she devises, she makes me want to bend her over my desk and make her mine.

But, since I clearly don’t know how to make any decisions worth a shit, I hired her, right there on the spot.

And that was the beginning of the end.
Need to know more? Well in case you are on pins and needles about my answer to her proposal, I said yes.

Here’s the story of how I became Boss Man Bridegroom.

SNEAK PEEK

The office is just starting to come alive when I slide into my cube. The weather—on top of it being the first day after a long holiday weekend—has everyone getting a late, lazy start. I fire up my laptop just as Jamie comes gliding across the floor, carrying two cups of coffee. I smile at her, and she smiles back. I wouldn’t know what to do without her.

“You always have my back, don’t you?” I say as she shoves the cup of steaming cardboard at me.

“Always.” She side-eyes me sarcastically. “Except when you ignore my texts and calls for an entire weekend.”

I glance away from her and hold the coffee between both of my hands, letting the contents of the cup warm my fingers. “Guilty,” I manage between sips of the hot liquid. “And I’m sorry. It’s just been so crazy, I don’t even know what to tell you or where to start—”

She cuts me off in her endearing, commanding way. “How about we pick up where we left off on Friday.” Her eyebrows raise knowingly, and I pinch my eyes closed, feeling awful for ignoring her.

I glance across the office and notice that Drew’s office lights are still off, which means he hasn’t arrived yet. I heave a sigh of relief, knowing that he’s not here and I can catch up with Jamie before he arrives. I stand up and reach for Jamie’s hand.

“Conference room,” I tell her, nodding toward the dark room. I drag her down the hall and the room lights up when we enter thanks to the motion sensors. I close and lock the door, drawing the privacy screens next so people can’t see us.

Throwing herself into a chair, Jamie grins at me. “Must be good if we have to talk about it in a conference room.” She spins in her chair like an excited little girl.

“I can’t have anyone in the office knowing about this,” I tell Jamie seriously. “I can’t have this jeopardize my career or have anyone thinking I’m doing anything inappropriate,” I start.

Her eyes widen like she knows this is going to be juicy, but she says with all seriousness, “I know. I didn’t mean it like that—”

“Jamie,” I cut her off. “I need you to promise me you’ll keep this under wraps. I need this job, I love this job. I’ve loved this job long before Mr. McPherson bought the company…”

“Is that what you call him? Mr. McPherson?” she interrupts with a giggle. “Deeper, Mr. McPherson,” she jokingly says and I roll my eyes. “Okay, sorry. I’ll be serious now.” She straightens up in her chair and pulls her coffee to her. “Tell me everything.”

I sit next to Jamie and start from Friday night. I tell her about the elevator, our night at the hotel, condo shopping, dinner, furniture shopping, and even about our picnic. I tell her I confessed about my money problems, problems even Jamie doesn’t know the gritty details of. She knows I’ve got shit to take care of, but she doesn’t know the extent of it. Jamie listens intently as I tell her everything. When I finally finish, she simply stares at me.

“Damn,” she murmurs, dazed. “You guys jumped right into this, didn’t you?”

I can’t do anything but nod my damn head in response. “I know, and it fucking scares me.”

Feel your heart race with these sexy brothers, and the kick ass heroines they fall in-love with, all in one fabulous boxset!

AUSTIN

“Tell me a secret,” I ask.
“I’m falling for you.”

Austin Sexton is a bad-boy media mogul and heir to the Sexton Empire. On the outside, he’s a whiskey-slinging bachelor with the world on a string. Problem is, strings break easily.

Deep within lies a war hero who refuses accolades. He buries his pain with his vices, and against my better judgment, I’ve become one of them.

No matter how hard I try to push him away, his secrets draw me in. This man, who appears careless, has passion. If I were looking for someone in my life, I could see myself falling for a guy like him.

Good thing love is the last thing I’m looking for.

BRYCE

“Truth or dare?”
“I’ll take your dare.”
“Kiss me.”

I don’t believe in Prince Charming, but when I met a handsome stranger on a rooftop his words intrigued me and his dares left nothing but temptation.

Then I learned the truth.

His name is Bryce Sexton. Media mogul, workaholic and a heart of stone. He’s broody AF and yet every woman in San Francisco wants him.

So why won’t he leave me alone?

Wherever I go, he’s there, trying to force his way into my world. What he doesn’t know is I already have a man in my life. A tiny redhead who loves Legos and Superheroes.

With every push, Bryce pulls me in further. Our pasts are laced with betrayal. Our futures are unpredictable. Our chemistry is explosive.

With each dare I uncover a truth, but he's exactly what I don’t need right now.

So why did I have to go and kiss him?

TANNER

We’re two strangers on a train, knowing whatever we decide in the next moment might dictate our fate for the rest of our lives.

“A kiss was all I needed.”
“Looks like you got what you wished for.”
“Yes. About that…”

My plan: find a finely dressed businessman, have a one-night stand, and forget about my failed relationship.

Like a bad joke, my ex walks into the bar. That’s when a gorgeous man wearing street clothes, messy hair, and the sexiest smile I’ve ever seen lays a kiss on me. It’s meant to rile up my ex but leaves me breathless and wanting more instead.

Then he’s gone.

So, I do what any rational person would. I chase after him onto the subway and embark on a wild night in New York City with a complete stranger.

No matter how much I fight it, this mysterious man painted his soul onto my skin. If it’s not meant to be, why can’t I forget about him?

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

This book was my first read of 2020 and I'm not sure that I will be able to do it justice. But I am going to try.

Blake carries a lot on his shoulders. And he does so because he believes he should. He has a successful career and is happy with the way things. When Audrey walks into his shop to get a tattoo, everything changes. Blake is not one to believe in fate, but things keep happening that make him think that maybe he should.

This book is quite the emotional roller coaster. Blake's relationship with his parent's was quite precarious and there were plenty of moments when they were so cruel and my heart just broke for him. Then there is the beautiful relationship he has with his brother that broke my heart for other reasons. It was just so pure. Maybe it was the twin thing or maybe it was something else, but I don't think two people could be as close as they were. Jacob needed someone to take care of him and Blake never thought twice.

I liked that fact that Blake was in therapy and we got sit through his sessions with him. They felt really authentic and it just added so much to the story. So much of this book is about healing and him going to therapy was such a vital part of it.

Then there is Audrey. From the moment she walked into Blake's tattoo studio, I knew there was more to her than meets the eye. Throughout the book we learn more about her and her life and that's where the whole fate thing comes into play. There were these moments that took my breath away and made me super emotional.

With Kelsey's book you don't just get a love story, you get a story that makes you think and look at the world differently. I know it's only January, but I can honestly say that this will be one of the best books that I read this year.

CW: Cancer, death of a loved one, talk of suicide

EXCERPT

“Hey, Blake,” Audrey answered, a smile in her voice.

“Hey.”

“This is the second time you’ve called me in three days.”

“You’re keeping count?”

She scoffed lightheartedly. “Duh. I mean, I might be a grown woman, but deep down, I’m still a girl who has it pretty bad for this really hot guy.”
