Emerson Hayes is sexy, arrogant, and has abs that would put a Hemsworth to shame. He’s also opening a bar with his buddies right below my apartment. Goodbye, peace and quiet, hello sleepless nights fantasizing about my hot new landlord…
But when my stuffy workplace makes it clear I need a plus-one for our events, I have the perfect way to even the score. Emerson is A+ arm-candy… as long as I can resist taking a bite. Our arrangement is supposed to be just for show, but Emerson is like that fifth shot of tequila: tempting, intoxicating, and liable to leave me flat on my back with my panties around my ankles, begging for more.
Maybe I should stay for just one more round…

“This story is a fun read, lots of LOL moments and there is plenty of electrifying chemistry between Alex and Emerson, you may need A/C to get through the book.” - CC Reads blog
“I loved Rascal. It started off so sweet, fun and sexy and did not have any unnecessary drama. The love story between Emerson and Alex was a joy to read!” - Goodreads
I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.
Emerson and Alex first meet in a drugstore. She’s buying some personal items and of course the hot guy (aka Emerson) ends up in line behind her. And of course the cashier has to do a price check for her personal hygiene items. But then things get even better when she goes to the ATM and so does the hot guy. And then the power goes out, trapping them both inside. Talk about a meet cute.
The two manage to pass the time and it’s clear that they are attracted to each other, but Alex feels as though her life is it chaotic for a relationship. So they leave the ATM thinking that they will most likely never see each other again. Cut to the next morning when Alex is woken up at a very early hour but construction in her building. When she inquires about how long she will have to put up with the noise she is surprised to find Emerson. Turns out he and his friends are opening a bar in the space below her apartment.
It isn’t long before Alex is spending time at the bar (which isn’t even open yet) and falls into an easy relationship with Emerson. The sexual tension between the two of them was ridiculous and everyone around them could feel it as well. Alex is determined to keep things platonic but Emerson has other ideas. When Alex brings him to a work event that is catalyst that propels them to being way more than friends.
I really enjoyed this book. Emerson was a giant sweetheart and he was such a good match for Alex. The both understood that their jobs came first and they made a point of finding time to be with the other person. Unfortunate for Alex, Emerson has some hang ups when it comes to his family and he allows that to get in the way of him being truly happy.
This is a great start to what seems to be a fun series. We meet all of Emerson’s friends in this book and I can’t wait to get their stories. I already have my favorite of the crew and I have a feeling I know where his story is going. At least that’s where I hope it will go.
