REVIEW TOUR & 4 1/2 STAR REVIEW: Hard Target (Target #2) by Marquita Valentine

We're celebrating the release of HARD TARGET by Marquita Valentine!

Title: Hard Target (Target #2)
Age Group: Adult
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: February 16, 2016

Ten years ago, Benjamin Romanov left behind a world of violence and intrigue. Now he’s living the dream as the chief technology officer at PharmGen, the world’s largest provider of vaccinations. The perks are amazing—a luxury penthouse, fast car, and his pick of women. The only downside to his job is reporting employees for less than scrupulous e-mail practices, but when he is forced to confront an employee in the lab, he ends up preventing a security guard from killing an innocent woman.

Receptionist Morgan Tanner never meant to get caught in the crosshairs of a deal gone wrong. All she wanted was one night of excitement with the sexy and elusive Benjamin Romanov. But now they’re on the run, and Benjamin thinks she has something to do with why everyone wants to kill them. Only she has no idea what’s going on at all—she was only in the lab to deliver a time-sensitive package.

With time running out, Benjamin must find a way to protect an innocent woman while keeping his distance… and expose PharmGen to the world before the deadly virus is unleashed.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

We previously met Ben in the first book, Prime Target. He definitely caught my attention and I wanted to know more. So I was excited when I realized he was getting his own book.

It's been ten years since the events in Prime Target and Ben is living a whole new life away from the Bratva. When leaving work one day Morgan Tanner approaches him and ask him out. Unbeknownst to her, Ben has been pining after her for while now. So he accepts her invitation and the two of them go out. What starts as drinks turns into a steamy night that neither of them expected.

The next day as Morgan is delivering a package to one of the scientists, she ends up at the wrong place at the wrong time and Ben ends up saving her life. It becomes clear, quite quickly, that they are now wrapped up in something serious and the two go on the run. It's at this point that Ben realizes that he isn't as far away from his old life as he thought and things become even more complicated.

Morgan was quite the spitfire and it turns out she was holding on to a few secrets of her own. She did a great job of keeping up with Ben, but she eventually goes and stays with his grandfather, Dmitri, to stay safe. I liked the moments between Morgan and Dmitri. They had a great rapport and I found a lot of their moments to be lighthearted, which was nice considering the rest of the book was full of action.

A relationship was the last thing Ben was looking for and he never thought that he would fall in love. And boy, did he fall HARD. And while everything that happened with Morgan was unexpected and completely complicated, I thought that they made a wonderful couple.

This is another great book from Marquita. Just like the last book, this one has lots of action...in the romance and corporate intrigue categories. And you will see some familiar faces, both welcome and unwelcome.
