BLOG TOUR & 5 STAR REVIEW: Southern Storms (Compass #1) by Brittainy C. Cherry

Even the town’s black sheep needed a friend sometimes.

Southern Storms, an all-new, small town second chance romance from Brittainy C. Cherry, is available now!

All I wanted to do was run away, I never expected to crash into his arms…

After leaving the city life behind to escape my loveless marriage, I moved to small town Havenbarrow for a fresh start.

What I didn’t expect was to find myself drawn to the town’s black sheep.

They called him troubled. Cold. A man with a dark past.

What everyone seemed to miss about Jax was the splashes of light in his eyes. The random acts of kindness he performed when no one was watching. The way he made me smile and laugh.

Jax helped unpack the baggage I’d been carrying around with me. He was patient with my pain and gentle with my scars. He was the stillness during my hurricane.

Yet when both of our pasts come back to haunt our present days, we realized quickly that sometimes love stories didn’t end the way we’d hoped.

Sometimes you were left with only the damage from the storm.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Kennedy is looking to start over and her sister has provided her with a place to live and all the support she can want. Kennedy is taking things day by day and while she may have her bad days, she's working to make them more good than bad. What she doesn't expect is to run into Jax, someone from her past that she never expected to see again.

I liked that we are given Kennedy's story in both the present and the past. I loved reading about Kennedy and Jax as kids, while seeing them get to know each other as adults.

I've read a lot of Brittainy's books and they all have one thing in common: They almost always leave me a sobbing mess. This book wasn't any different. Although it did have a different feel to it. There was plenty of emotion, but the actual drama was kept to a minimum, which I appreciated. Things would happen and I'd think "Oh that will come back later," but it never happened. So yay for no unnecessary drama!

EXCERPT

Kennedy

Joy Jones was quite the character to take in. That morning, when the sun came up, she walked outside to her front porch and sat down in her rocking chair with a smile on her face and a large cup of coffee. A few of my nosy visitors told me that it was a daily routine for her.

Her silver-dripped hair was tossed up in a messy bun being held together with two knitting needles, and her thick-framed, vibrant-orange glasses sat on top of her head. She wore a vibrant bow in her hair that matched her dress for the day, and she always greeted everyone who passed by her house, even when they didn’t speak back to her. Everyone in town called her Crazy Joy, even though she was the kindest person. Her only odd quirk was that she never left her property.

I wondered how she managed, though. I wondered how she kept living without stepping foot outside of her home. It seemed she hadn’t any children and she didn’t have a caregiver who came to aid her, from what I could tell.

Later that morning, my questions were answered as a blue pick-up truck pulled in front of the house. Needless to say, my jaw dropped to the ground when I saw Mr. Personality step out of the vehicle. He walked his way straight toward Joy’s front porch with his arms filled with grocery bags.

He proceeded to greet Joy. She stood from the rocking chair as he set the bags down on the porch. Then, he hugged her.

He hugged her!

I wouldn’t have thought someone as grumpy as Mr. Personality had the ability to hug someone. The two of them walked inside to put the groceries away, leaving me completely baffled and unable to return to my scheduled reading. It took a lot to break me away from a book. And by ‘a lot,’ I meant a lot. My house could’ve been on fire, aliens could’ve beamed me up, and I would’ve still been trying to get in that one last page. When my own love story was broken, I turned to story books to heal the cracks of my broken heartbeats. When my world fell apart, the story books still believed in happily ever afters. Those books saved me on the days I felt my soul falling victim to the hardest of storms.

Yet, Mr. Personality pulled me away from the words against the page. He made me curious about him walking into Joy’s house. Watching him chat away with her had my mind racing. A few minutes later, when the two of them walked back outside with two glasses in their hands—one with wine, the other with some dark liquor—whiskey, I assumed—I couldn’t stop myself from glancing over to them. Joy kept talking, and Mr. Personality kept responding. Even though I couldn’t hear what they were saying, Joy looked beyond smitten with whatever was being said her way, which forced my own heart to skip a few beats.

Well, I’ll be damned.

The town’s asshole made me swoon.

Falling in love with a Bennet is not an option.

My mother has summoned me home to take my place at Bower Bouquets, and as the heiress, I’m expected to do as I’m told. I’m expected to sit by her side as she does her best to decimate the Bennet family and their flower shop, Longbourne. I’m expected to play by her rules, or she’ll ruin me too.

But the day I crash into Marcus Bennet changes everything. And the kiss seals the deal. If my mother finds out, I’ll lose everything—my family, my life, my security. Worse, she’ll make sure the Bennets pay for my mistakes.

Falling in love with a Bennet is not an option.

But I might not have a choice.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Before I start I just want to say one thing: I cannot remember a time where I hated a character as much as I hated Evelyn Bower. Good lord, she was an awful human being. Every time she was on the page she just made me hate her even more. So well done, Staci!

Now to Marcus and Maisie. I absolutely LOOOOOOOOOVED them! From the moment they bumped into each other, they knew that they were meant for each other. I really liked that fact that they didn't let their feud between their families get in the way of them being together. On paper, these two would never work, but in reality, they were perfect for each other.

I loved that once they made their minds up that they were going to be together, they stuck to their guns. That doesn't mean that they didn't have any road blocks to their happy ending, but their feelings for each other were just so strong. And the happily every after in this book is so much more than I thought it would be.

Once I started reading, I had a really hard time putting this book down. I really love the Bennet family and of course we get all of them in this book. The relationship between all the siblings is not only fun to read, but it's also very heartwarming. They always have each other's back. Even if they think the other is making a mistake.

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's also been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. When she's not writing, she's reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW: Old Fashioned by Kandi Steiner

Old Fashioned, the fourth and final installment in the Becker Brothers series by Kandi Steiner is LIVE!

🥃 Small Town Romance
🥃 Country Romance
🥃 Sports Romance
🥃 Enemies-to-Lovers
🥃 Angst Galore
🥃 Single Parent
🥃 Workplace Romance
🥃 Mystery

It’s a man’s world.

When I declared sports medicine as my major and every man narrowed their eyes, that saying proved true. It was true when my ex-husband decided I’d give up my career when our daughter was born. And again when I divorced the Chief of Police in our small town, and he made it painfully clear that I could leave him, but I would never be free.

Landing the job as the new athletic trainer for Stratford’s high school team is my chance to start over. And walking into a male-dominated sport and staff, I’m ready for the challenge.

I’m not ready for Jordan Becker.

The head coach of our championship winning team is a Herculean force of nature—as severe as he is determined. His icy blue eyes and permanent scowl drive the women in this town mad, and his quiet power and undeniable command conjure respect from every man.

When I join his team, I expect the doubt and anticipate the fight from him. And I get them both.

I don’t expect to form a friendship.

And I never expect to fall for him.

My breath catches when those cool eyes fall to my lips. My body comes alive when his is near. And as those lines begin to blur, every warning bell sounds.

My job, my reputation are on the line.

And my ex is around every corner, waiting to remind me of his power.

It’s a man’s world, and if I want to survive, I can never fall in love with Jordan Becker.

Even if he falls in love with me first.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Whew! Sydney and Jordan! I loved these two so much. Jordan may have put his foot in his mouth at their first meeting, but it doesn't take long for the two of them to come to an understanding. All it takes is one speech on the first day of practice for Sydney to see how special Jordan is and it doesn't take long for Jordan to see that Sydney is very good at her job as well. The two form a friendship and Jordan starts working with Sydney's (adorable) daughter Paige, who wants to be a football player. And the rest, as they say, is history.

I really loved Sydney and Jordan's relationship. She might have some heavy baggage, thanks to her douchebag ex-husband, but Jordan has no problem taking it all on. He knows that Sydney and he daughter are special and he won't let anyone tell him anything different. Even his family welcome them with open arms, which is exactly what I expect from the Becker family.

I am sad to see this series end, but we finally got all the answers we have been looking for!! I will say that it wasn't so much the mystery being solved that shocked me, but the fallout. Holy cow! I was not prepared for the bomb that was dropped. I am usually pretty good at picking on things like that, but I was totally blindsided! Well done Kandi!

About Kandi

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a diehard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.
