BLOG TOUR & 5 STAR REVIEW: The Gravity of Us (Elements #4) by Brittainy Cherry

The Gravity of Us, an all-new gripping and emotional standalone from Brittainy C. Cherry is available now!

The Gravity of Us by Brittainy C. Cherry
Release Date: April 13th, 2017
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Cover Designer: Quirkybird Designs

Graham Russell and I weren’t made for one another.

I was driven by emotion; he was apathetic. I dreamed while he lived in nightmares. I cried when he had no tears to shed.

Despite his frozen heart and my readiness to run, we sometimes shared seconds. Seconds when our eyes locked and we saw each other’s secrets. Seconds when his lips tasted my fears, and I breathed in his pains. Seconds when we both imagined what it would be like to love one another.

Those seconds left us floating, but when reality knocked us sideways, gravity forced us to descend.

Graham Russell wasn’t a man who knew how to love, and I wasn’t a woman who knew how to either. Yet if I had the chance to fall again, I’d fall with him forever.

Even if we were destined to crash against solid ground.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Graham and Lucy meet under strange circumstances. Their initial interaction is not only a super awkward, but it is also the catalyst for the rest of the book. I really don't want to say too much about the plot because I feel like I will give something away and I do not want to do that, but I do want to talk about the characters a little.

Let's start with Graham. At the start of the book he is so miserable. Sure, he has his reasons and they are good ones, but I was actually taken aback at how miserable he was. I didn't care for him for most of the book, but at some point I started to feel sorry for him. Then he slowly started to creep his way into my heart. Part of me knew it would happen, but I was still surprised. At one point my heart even broke for him. So I went from disliking him, feeling sorry for him, kind of liking him, my heart breaking for him and then by the end of the book I loved him. Talk about a trajectory. That's some good writing my friends.

Then there is Lucy. The girl who feels EVERYTHING. And truer words have never been written. Lucy only knows how to look at things positively. She sees the silver lining to every situation. She tries to find the good in everyone she meets. And when she meets Graham she makes it her mission to find the good in him. She knows it is there although she has to look VERY deep to find it. And she never lets up because it is just not in her nature.

Graham and Lucy are like the odd couple. He's cranky. She's happy. He sees the downside to everything. She only sees the upside. Graham is a extremely selfish. Lucy always puts everyone else first. These two should not work, but thanks to Lucy's "never say die" attitude, they work. And it also helps that they are bonded together in the most surprising way. It's not always sunshine and roses, but (most of the time) it works. And when these two are on the same page, they are force to be reckoned with. And when stumbling blocks (aka some people I wanted to smack upside the head) get in their way, those stumbling blocks do not stand a chance.

And going back to the excellent writing I mentioned earlier. There is a slight plot twist that happens in the book that I guessed early on. I think it's because I read a lot and sometimes I just expect certain things to happen. But when my guess turned out to be true I was still totally flabbergasted and reacted as if I had no idea. Brittainy's writing is that good!

I always have a hard time reviewing Brittainy's books. Not because I didn't enjoy them, but because I know how to translate my feelings into words that make sense. She just has a way with words that makes you feel everything. I cried no less than a million times and while I expect that when a Brittainy Cherry book, I also welcome it. We all need a good cry now and then. Even if you're in public. On a crowded subway. It's cool.

EXCERPT

Lucy

We didn’t know how to act with one another after our first kiss. Our situation wasn’t the norm when it came to building a relationship. We did everything backward. I fell in love with a boy before our first kiss, and he fell for a girl who he wasn’t allowed to have. Our connection, our heartbeats, matched one another in our fairytale world, but in reality, society deemed us as an awful accident.

Maybe we were an accident—a mistake.

Maybe we were never supposed to cross each other’s paths.

Maybe he was only meant to be a lesson in life and not a permanent mark.

But still, the way he kissed me…

Our kiss was as if heaven and hell collided together, and each choice was right and wrong at the same exact time. We kissed as if we were making a mistake and the best decision all at once. His lips made me float higher, yet somehow descend. His breaths somehow made my heart beat faster as it came to a complete halt.

Our love was everything good and bad wrapped in one kiss.

A part of me knew I should’ve regretted it, but the way his lips warmed up the cold shadows of my soul…the way he left his mark on me…

I’d never regret finding him, holding him, even if we only had those few seconds as one.

He’d always be worth those tiny seconds we shared.

He’d always be worth that soul-connecting feeling we created when our lips touched.

He’d always be the one I spent my nights dreaming of being near.

He’d always be worth it to me.

Sometimes when your heart wanted a full-length novel, the world only gave you a novella, and sometimes when you wanted forever you only had those few seconds of now.

And all I could do, all anyone could ever do, was make each moment count.

After we went home that night, we didn’t talk about it at all. Not the following week, either. I focused on Talon. Graham worked on his novel. I believed both of us were waiting for the right time to come up for us to speak about it, but that was the tricky thing about timing: it was never right. Sometimes you just had to leap and hope you didn’t fall.

RELEASE BLITZ & 5 STAR REVIEW: The Silent Waters (Elements #3) by Brittainy C. Cherry

Blurb

Moments.

Our lives are a collection of moments. Some utterly painful and full of yesterday's hurts. Some beautifully hopeful and full of tomorrow's promises.

I’ve had many moments in my lifetime, moments that changed me, challenged me. Moments that scared me and engulfed me. However, the biggest ones—the most heartbreaking and breathtaking ones—all included him.

I was ten years old when I lost my voice. A piece of me was stolen away, and the only person who could truly hear my silence was Brooks Griffin. He was the light during my dark days, the promise of tomorrow, until tragedy found him. Tragedy that eventually drowned him in a sea of memories.

This is the story of a boy and girl who loved each other, but didn’t love themselves. A story of life and death. Of love and broken promises.

Of moments.

(Book Three in the Elements Series. Complete Standalone.)

My Review

I received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book is by far the best book I have read this year. Talk about a massive book hangover!! I knew that it would make me cry (the other two books in the series did), but I didn't think it would make me feel ALL the feelings. And I'm not sure my review can do this book justice, but I am going to do my best.

This book grabbed my attention from the very beginning. We meet six year old Maggie and her father as they are moving in with with his girlfriend Katie, and her two children. That night while Maggie is in bed crying, Calvin's friend Brooks bring her a night light. And the rest, they say, is history. As the two of them grow up, Maggie is clearly in love with Brooks, but he wants nothing to do with her. She writes him silly letters and he only replies because his older brother makes him. Before we know it, ten year old Maggie starts to plan their wedding in the woods and Brooks reluctantly goes along with it. Unfortunately for both of them, that wedding in the woods would be the catalyst for a horrific event that would take Maggie's voice.

You okay today?

That one little question Brooks asks Maggie changed everything. As they grow older, Maggie and Brooks become the best of friends. They read the same books and make notes for the other person. They sit for hours and listen to music. She encourages him to go after his dreams, even if those dreams take him away from her. And he encourages her as well. Maggie keeps a to do list of all the things she wants to do and despite what other people thing, Brooks just knows that she will do all of those things one day. He truly believes in her. And she doesn't have to speak for him to understand her. He just does. She is his Maggie May.

Y'all. I was not prepared for how often this book made me cry. Whether is was a declaration of love from Brooks or the crappy way someone treated Maggie, I was often on the subway trying not to make a spectacle of myself. I enjoyed the previous two books in this series, but this one just touched me on a deeper level. Brittainy's writing is just on another level. She knows how to make you feel whatever the characters are feeling. You get mad with them. Sad with them. You are happy when they are happy. You just feel ALL the feelings.

As a young man Brooks makes a promise to Maggie. Little did he know that that promise would be what ultimately brought her back to him and him to her. It was such an amazing moment and one that made me want to tell everyone to read this book. I don't really want to say anything more about the plot because to get the full effect a person should really know nothing about it, but I will say that Maggie and Brooks' love is one for the ages. Brooks Griffin is EVERYTHING and is now my book boyfriend for life.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When you are done, make sure to read the letter from the author. The book will be elevated to a whole new level when you read that note and if you are anything like me, you may shed a few more tears. Thank you Brittainy for sharing your story with us and writing what might be one of the best books I have EVER had the pleasure to read.

There once was a boy, and I loved him.

Logan Francis Silverstone and I were complete opposites. I danced, and he stood still. He was quiet, while I ran my mouth. He struggled to find a smile, and I refused to frown.

The night I saw the darkness that truly lived inside of him, I couldn't look away.

We were broken together, yet somehow whole. We were wrong together, but always right. We were the stars that burned across the night sky, searching for a wish, praying for better tomorrows.

Until the day I lost him. He threw us away with one hasty decision--a decision that changed us forever.

There once was a boy, and I loved him.

And for a few breaths, a few whispers, a few moments, I think he loved me, too.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is another emotional one. I basically cried my way through this book. Talk about an emotional roller coaster. Yeesh. As it says in the book multiple times "But after the highs, always came the lows." So many highs and so many lows. Just when you think things were good...BAM...something happened to bring it back to the bad.

This book is told in two parts. The first part takes place while Logan and Alyssa are in high school. They meet when Logan comes into the supermarket where Alyssa is working. Alyssa notices him and helps him out when he doesn't have enough money to make his purchases. The two strike up a conversation and before they know it, they are the best of friends. Eventually their friendship turns romantic and it's the summer before Alyssa is leaving for college. Unfortunately for them, tragedy strikes and they are separated. The second part of the book takes place 5 years later. Alyssa and Logan are back in the same town and they need to confront not only their past, but also what is happening in the present.

On paper Alyssa and Logan should have never worked as a couple. They came from two very backgrounds. Logan had a junkie mom who was given drugs by his absent father and he often took drugs. Alyssa was from an upper middle class, single parent family. She played piano and planned on majoring in music therapy in college. Their lives couldn't be more different, but a couple they are perfect for each other. They know exactly what the other needs and when they need it. At times all they had to do was say the following two sentences. It was kind of the thing that grounded them and made everything okay:
“You’re okay, Logan Francis Silverstone,” she said.
“I’m okay, Alyssa Marie Walters,” I replied.
They just have an unbreakable bond that allowed their love to survive the toughest of situations. Trust me...they go through a lot and when Logan professes his love (again) to Alyssa I cried like a freaking baby.

“I’m still in love with you,” he repeated walking closer to me. “I’ve tried to stop it. I tried to ignore it. I tried to wish it away, but it won’t leave. Whenever you’re near me, I want you closer. Whenever you laugh, I want the sound to never fade. Whenever you’re sad, I want to kiss your tears away . I know all of the reasons that I shouldn’t want to be with you . I know that I can never be forgiven for what happened all those years ago, but I also know that I still love you. You’re still the fire that keeps me warm when life becomes cold. You’re still the voice that keeps the darkness at bay. You’re still the reason my heart beats. You’re still the air in my lungs. You’re still my greatest high. And I am still truly, madly, painfully in love with you. And I don’t think I’ll ever know how to stop.”

So. Many. Tears. It was clear from very early on in the book that Alyssa and Logan were meant to be together. And while I knew that they would eventually get their happily ever after, so much happens and it's so well written that there was a few times where I thought they may not.

The first book in this series made me cry. This one did too. I don't know if there will be a third book in this series, but if there is I will definitely be reading it. And making sure I am stocked up on kleenex.
