5 Star Review: Even the Score by Beth Ehemann

Single dad Andy Shaw loves his job as a sports agent, with one exception: it doesn’t leave him much time for his kids. No parent likes being sidelined, so Andy decides to hire someone to share the workload. But when one of the hottest agents in the industry applies, Andy knows that this deal is definitely trouble.

Danicka Douglas works her butt off, but being an attractive woman in a testosterone-heavy industry isn’t exactly a cakewalk. She guards her professional reputation fiercely, which means no crushing on her gorgeous boss. But the more they ignore that sexy little spark, the more it sizzles…

Just when it looks like romance might be in the game plan, Dani is threatened by a stalker with dark intentions. To keep her safe, Andy must cross the line between professional and very personal…because this time, he’s playing for keeps.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

After missing one too many of his children's events due to his job, Andy knows he has to make a change. He has been wanting to expand his business and now is the perfect time to do that. So he hires Danicka to be another agent at his firm. Their first meeting does not go well at all (I love when that happens) and Danicka isn't even sure that she will get the job so it comes as quite the surprise when he does offer it to her.

Danicka settles into the new company quite nicely. It's a small one so there aren't many employees and she quickly forms a friendship with Ellie, the office assistant. She forms a great working relationship with Andy and they form an easy friendship.
A couple of hours later, I was munching on a salad in my office since Ellie had ditched me for lunch with Kevin, when there was a soft knock at my door.
“Come in!” I called out, trying not to spit lettuce all over my desk.
The door creaked as it opened, revealing a smiling Andy, holding a yellow gift bag.
I swallowed and licked the leftover dressing off my lips as I smiled at him. “Hey,” I said cheerfully.
“Hey yourself. Since Ethan and Ellie are both out for lunch, I figured now was a good time.” He took a couple of steps into my office and set the little gift bag down in front of me. “Happy birthday, Danicka.”
My mouth popped open as I stared down at the gift bag in shock. “Wait, you went out and got me a gift today?”
He sat down in the chair across from me and shook his head.
“But I thought that you didn’t know—” I stopped talking and narrowed my eyes at him skeptically.
He pressed his lips together and tried to keep a straight face. “So I wasn’t totally honest about not knowing it was your birthday.”
“You little liar,” I accused with a small grin as I wiped my hands on the napkin and pushed my salad off to the side. “By the way, yellow is my favorite color.”
“I knew that, too.”
His words hung in the air between us, shifting the mood from playful to something . . . more.
“Hm. Interesting,” I said lightheartedly as I peeked into the bag. I couldn’t see much except for white tissue paper, but whatever it was, was heavy. Wrapping my hand around a box, I pulled it out carefully and set it on my desk. I felt Andy’s eyes on me, watching every movement I made as I eagerly unwrapped the tissue.
As the tissue fell and the box was revealed, my mouth fell open. “I can’t believe you did this.” I shook my head, staring at the new camera lens that I’d been wanting for months. Looking up at his proud smile, I swallowed a small lump that had formed in my throat. “How did you know?”
He licked his lips and shrugged. “I watched you take a ton of pictures at the Home Run Derby last month, and when I overheard you and Ellie talking about cameras the other day, I heard you tell her what kind of camera you had and that you’d wanted this lens for a while. So I got it.”
My eyes stung with tears that I quickly tried to blink away. “Andy, this lens was really expensive, that’s why I was waiting to get it.”
“Eh.” He waved his hand nonchalantly. “It was a small price to pay for such an awesome partner.”
I looked down at the lens again, purposefully avoiding eye contact with him. “It’s not small to me. I haven’t had the type of life where people go out of their way for me or make a big deal over the little things, so this is just . . .” My voice trailed off as I shook my head, not wanting to embarrass myself by crying in front of him.
“Dani,” he said in a tone that was soft, yet pointed enough that it made me lift my eyes to his. “If that’s true, then you haven’t been hanging around the right people.”
*sigh* Andy is the sweetest.

Things get a bit complicated when it becomes clear that someone is stalking Danicka. A series of events lead to her having to stay at Andy's house. Of course she is a bit nervous at first but his kids, especially his daughter, take to Danicka almost immediately. All three of them accepted Danicka into their lives an they formed this little makeshift family. It was so cute to watch unfold.

I just loved this book. I am SO HAPPY that Beth has given us Andy's story. Of course we get some of the usual suspects (i.e. Brody and Viper and their crew) popping up to offer advice and/or making us laugh. Readers of Beth's book already know and love him and were just waiting for his happily ever after. I never liked his nightmare of an ex-wife Blaire, so it was wonderful to see him move on and for her to finally be put in her place. And he couldn't have done it with a more perfect person.

BLOG TOUR & 5 STAR REVIEW: A Cranberry Inn Christmas by Beth Ehemann

A Cranberry Inn Christmas

Christmas at the Murphy household has always been a big deal, but with her daughters getting older, Kacie Murphy is feeling a bit sentimental, so she decides to give her family the perfect Christmas.

Plans of cookie baking, sleigh ride taking, and snowman making are quickly put in jeopardy when Kacie receives devastating news—her mom has sold the beloved Cranberry Inn.

Not one to let his wife stay sad for long, hockey hunk and husband extraordinaire, Brody Murphy, hatches the ultimate surprise to save Kacie’s perfect Christmas.

When fate and the weather threaten his plans once again, Brody, Viper and Andy might just have to phone in a favor to Santa himself to save Christmas at the Cranberry Inn.

This low-angst, heartwarming novella of family and Christmas is the final farewell of the Cranberry Inn gang that readers have grown to love over the years.

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

I always get sad when a series that I adore ends, but all good things must come to an end, right?. Beth had been teasing us readers (for a month!) about a secret project she was working on and when she announced it would be Christmas themed and and also the last of the Cranberry Inn series I was both happy and sad. I love the Murphy clan and everyone that comes along with them and I hate to see them go.

It's the holiday season and Kacie wants to have the best Christmas ever. And Brody, the best husband a woman could ever ask for, wants to give that to her. When things go south and it looks like their holiday plans are in jeopardy Brody, Viper and DILF of the year Andy go on what could only be described as the funniest road trip ever. I think I laughed the most during that section of the book and it made me so freaking happy.
We’d been in the car for three hours and only gone sixty-five miles. “This sucks,” I groaned, suddenly glad that we didn’t tell the girls we were leaving. At this rate, there was a chance we really wouldn’t make it home before Christmas Day.
“Yep,” Viper agreed. “It’s hard to drive in this shit, and if I go any faster than twenty we lose traction and swerve all over the fucking place. Not to mention, when was the last time you saw another car? It’s like a damn ghost town out here.”
“I know, kinda creepy. And I think we lost Andy.” I peeked into the backseat. Andy had rolled up a hoodie and was sleeping on it against the window, his mouth hanging open. “ His mouth is open. Should I throw something in it?”
“Yes!” Viper growled. “ I have a box of Red Hots in my bag. Grab them.”
I bent down and picked up Viper’s backpack from the floorboard, searching quickly for the box of cinnamon candy before Andy switched his position. Finally I found it. I ripped open the tab and pulled a couple pieces of candy out before unbuckling and turning around in my seat.
“Hold the car steady.” I shot Viper a warning glare, “And don’t kill me.” He rolled his eyes but didn’t take them off the road. “Please. I probably need to go more than twenty miles an hour to kill you. At this rate, the best I could hope for would be a broken arm or maybe some internal bleeding.”
Ignoring him, I pinched a piece of candy in between my pointer finger and thumb, aiming it like a dart at Andy’s mouth. I cocked my hand back and let it go, hoping it would land on his tongue and eventually burn the crap out of it, waking him up. Instead, it did go into his mouth, but skipped the tongue all together and went straight down his throat. He sat straight up, his eyes snapping open and his hand at his throat as he coughed and choked.
Once he calmed down, he looked at me like I was insane. “What the fuck is wrong with you?”
I laughed and turned back around without saying anything.
“Where are we anyway?” he grumbled.
I checked the map again. “Uh . . . Eolia, Missouri.”
“Did you just say areola? Because if you did, I’m fucking packing my family up and moving here.” Viper laughed.

UGH! I LOVE THOSE GUYS SO MUCH.  I think I will miss them the most.

I can't think of a more fitting way to end this series. Basically anyone who has ever been in this series makes an appearance. There are some truly hilarious moments that I laughed out loud and also some emotional ones that made me cry a little. AND THAT EPILOGUE. Forget it. If you're a fan of the series and you are able to read it and not get emotional, well you must be a robot. Talk about tying everything up with a nice red bow. It was absolutely perfect. Thank you Beth for giving us this amazing series and throughout it all, sharing a part of your life with us.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

FINALLY! Viper is back! I feel like we have been waiting forever for his book and it was well worth the wait.

It's been a little over a year since we last saw Viper and life is great. He's extremely happy, he's playing great hockey and has found the love of his life. So what could possibly go wrong? A lot, actually.

After suffering an injury that puts him out for a good portion of the season, Viper falls apart. He not only pushes away the one person in his life that loves him the most, but he essentially turns into a jerk. Even Brody gets mad at him. He makes some poor decisions and has to do a good amount of groveling. But I will say this...when Viper says he is sorry, he really means it and is not going to stop until he is forgiven. The guy loves HARD. And when he does the aforementioned groveling it only made me love him more. There's just something about Viper laying out all his cards and showing the vulnerability that he works so hard to keep hidden. **sigh**

And the return of Viper means the return of Gam! I freaking love that woman! She is loving, hilarious and has no problem putting Viper in his place, which he needed a good helping of in this book! And I don't really know why, but I love it when she curses and drops the f bomb. I also had to laugh when she vehemently denied that she has a boyfriend because my family basically had the same conversation with my 80 something grandma. Gotta love it!

And of course Kacie and Brody are back and my love for them only grew while reading this book. They are both wonderful people and it just sealed the fact that I really need to do a reread of their series. This book is a great follow up to the first book and is definitely a must read for fans of Beth Ehemann.

Oh and before I forget there is something that happens towards the end of this book that took my breath away.  It was a perfect moment that once I got my breath back made me cry buckets. God, I love when that happens.

Lucy, Piper, Matthew, and Emma ate fast and scampered off to play Ping-Pong in the basement while Grace and Maura toddled around the family room, chewing on everything they could get their hands on.

“Want a glass of wine?” Kacie asked as she put the last of the pizza in the fridge.

“Um . . . nah. I’ve been fighting a headache all day and that would just make it worse.”

Kacie nodded and filled her wine glass with Riesling. She grabbed a water bottle from the fridge and balanced the drinks carefully in her hands as she stepped over our makeshift baby gate of pillows and an ottoman.

“Thanks.” I took the bottle from her, ready to relax and watch our boys play. The second period was just starting and the Wild were already up 2—0.

I didn’t think the day could get much better.

Kacie plopped down roughly, giggling when she spilled a little wine down the front of her shirt. “Oh well.” She shrugged and took another sip.

“Thanks for tonight, Kacie. You have no idea how much I needed this.”

“Oh my goodness, don’t mention it. It’s been so fun. I think this should be our new road trip tradition.”

“I’ll drink to that,” I said as I held my water up in the air. She grinned and immediately leaned over, touching her glass with my bottle.

We relaxed back into her oversized couch happily, while our babies played and boys kicked ass on TV.

Just before the second period was ending, there was a breakaway play and Viper was all alone, dribbling the puck down the ice toward the goal. Kacie and I both sat forward in our seats, praying for another Wild goal. He skated along the boards, nearing the goalie, when out of nowhere Ricky Young from the St. Louis Blues barreled into him, sending him crashing into the glass.

“Holy shit!” I jumped up and covered my mouth.

Hard hits were nothing new in hockey, but that one was brutal, and it was obvious by the way his body flew that Viper had no idea Ricky was even near him.

“He’s okay. He’s totally fine,” Kacie tried to reassure me, taking a step closer as she put her hand on my arm.

But . . . he wasn’t okay.

Within a couple of seconds, the station cut to a commercial break and fear exploded inside of my chest.

Not again. Oh God, please not again.
