RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW: The One That Got Away from Karina Halle

The One That Got Away by The New York Times, Wall Street Journal & USA Today Bestselling author Karina Halle is now live!

*A standalone second-chance romance*

Ruby Turner was never meant to be mine.

When I first met her, she was a fresh, young, American sports journalist trying to find her footing in a new life abroad. She was the one interviewing me for an article, yet I wanted to know more about her. She captivated me.

But she went home with Marco that night.

My agent.

My brother.

And I did what I could to pretend I was fine with it.

After all, I’m Luciano Ribeiro. As the captain of Real Madrid, and Portugal’s National Team, it’s my job to be cool, calm, and collected, not easily rattled.

Only what I felt for Ruby over time, shook me to my very core.

It made me do things I never imagined I would do.

It started with a stolen kiss in the middle of the night.

It led to a passionate tryst.

It created a burden of guilt that I had to carry, as Ruby came in and out of my life until she left for good, leaving her mark on me.

Now, seven years later, she’s back.

She was the one that got away.

I don’t think I’ll let her go this time.

But I might not have a choice.

Because my heart still belongs to her.

And her heart might belong to my brother.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an  honest review.

I want to start by saying that it wasn't that I didn't enjoy this book. I did. There were moments when I couldn't put it down. Moments when I found Luciano absolutely irresistible and I got that swoony ache in my chest. For me, the best part of the book was Luciano. But by the time I finished, I was left feeling disappointed in the overall story.

Maybe it was because I spent most of the book being frustrated with Ruby. She was young and inexperienced and looking to forget her past, which I understood, but I found myself rolling my eyes at a lot of her choices. And I am not one to do that when I am reading a book. I probably give characters too much leeway, but for some reason, I couldn't let it slide this time.

I wanted more of Luciano and Ruby's story and a lot less of the all the stuff that kept them apart. When they were together, the chemistry was fantastic and I couldn't get enough. I wanted more of just Lucian and Ruby together, getting to know each other and building up their relationship. Honestly, the more I think about it, I wanted (and maybe expected) a story that was similar to Thalia and Alejo's. And that's on me.

If you read The Younger Man and were intrigued by Luciano and wanted to know his story, then you should consider reading this.
