BLOG TOUR, 5 STAR REVIEW & GIVEAWAY: Meet Me Halfway (Off Field #2) by Kim Carmody

Today is our stop for the blog tour of Meet Me Halfway by Kim Carmody! Check out the fantastic new romance, and grab your copy today!

An ambitious journalist on a fast track to success.

A round one draft pick determined to keep his personal life his own.

And a documentary that proves sometimes opposites really do attract.

Olivia Callahan is a woman on a mission. When she lands a career defining opportunity in the male-dominated world of sports journalism, she knows it’s make or break time. Olivia’s boss has given her the green light to produce her very own documentary, and she’s not going to let anything get in the way of perfection.

After a few setbacks in college, Nate Sullivan is finally on his way to the big leagues as the newest recruit for the New York Warriors. Determined to put his somewhat colorful past behind him, Nate’s all about the straight and narrow as he sets out to prove he’s worthy of the first round draft pick that’s caused so much debate from fans and media.

The last thing Nate wants is to delve into stories from his past. But when his new team directs him to set the record straight, he has no choice but to cooperate with the feisty, determined reporter who shows up on campus. Olivia is thrilled that Nate Sullivan is her man. His colorful background is just the thing to take her story from memorable to award winning.

What neither of them expected is their attraction to one another, yet try as they might, determination gives way to temptation eventually. As Nate battles to protect his privacy and Olivia fights to produce the story of her career, they must decide what they’re willing to give up in order to gain each other.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Olivia meets Nate when he becomes the subject of a sports documentary that she is producing. A documentary that will help her move up in the world of a male dominated industry. Nate has been drafted by the New York Warriors and the documentary will follow his path from college to the professional team. He's hesitant about participating, but he knows that it will be beneficial to his career.

The first time Olivia and Nate meet is at the house he shares with a few college teammates. After being greeted by Nate's three shirtless roommates (it was quite comical), she comes face to face with the man himself. She is immediately struck by how attractive he is, but manages to reel it in and get the first interview done. After all, she is a professional and has a job to do. After meeting a few times, Nate's initial wariness goes away but he is still worried. An incident that occurred during his freshman year, one that he absolutely never talks about, threatens to emerge and he wants it to stay out of the documentary. But it's Olivia's job to make sure the documentary covers everything, whether Nate likes it or not. They come to an understanding about the subject and by the time they make it to New York, their relationship has become intimate. While at first they manage to keep their professional and personal relationships separate, life has a way of making things difficult and both of their happiness is threatened.

I can't even begin to explain how much I love Olivia and Nate. These two were such a wonderful couple. The chemistry between them was absolutely electricI found myself eagerly anticipating that moment when Olivia and Nate crossed the line of inappropriateness. And the pay off was amazing.
“I know how to have fun,” I said, my hands gripping the edges of the pool table.
He grinned, his lips now only inches from mine. “Good. Let’s have some fun then.”
Nate hesitated for just a moment, and in that second the knowledge that being with him was a terrible idea reared its ugly head. But before I had a chance to fully process it, he closed the gap between us, his lips grazing mine in an almost kiss. He teased, his gaze locked on me the entire time, consuming me, washing away my lingering concerns that this shouldn’t be happening.
“Nate…we shouldn’t. We can’t,” I spoke the words against his lips, even as I was unable to muster the will to push him away.
“And yet we are,” he said, smiling against my mouth. Firm hands cupped my neck, pulling me closer and I let my body go lax against his as he deepened the kiss. And my God, could Nate Sullivan kiss. His mouth devoured mine, biting and sucking, and there in his childhood Batcave, I all but melted into his arms.
A noise that sounded oddly like a moan filled the space between us and a split second later, I realized it had come from me. Nate pulled back, his mouth twitching in a half smile as he said, “This okay?”
I schooled my features as victory flared in his eyes, knowing the shock of just how much more than okay his kiss was had to be written all over my face.
Nate sank to his knees, his hands skimming the length of my back, covering my butt with a squeeze and moving down to rub along the bare skin of my legs. My breath hitched when they trailed a path back up and under my skirt, where he slipped them under the fabric of my underwear.
“Your skin is like fucking silk.” He groaned, dropping his head to my stomach. Nate caught the hem of my t-shirt in his mouth and pulled at it, practically growling as he tilted his head to look at me. Releasing it, he said, “You know what I thought the first time I saw you?”
“That I was the devil, here to ruin your life?”
He chuckled, his breath warming my stomach. “That was my second thought.” His hands began making small circles over my skin. “I thought you were the team’s way of hazing me. Making me sweat over some bullshit documentary and then sending you as the punch line. Thought I’d died and gone to heaven for a second there.”
My eyes widened. “You…you thought I was a stripper?” I started to push away from him but his grip tightened on my butt.
“No, I merely hoped you were.”
No sooner than the words were out of his mouth he lifted me, his hands big enough to create a chair for my butt. He stood, turning us so his back was to the pool table and lowered me back down.
I looked up at him, not even trying to hide the wonder I knew was written across my face. “Who are you, Nate Sullivan?”
“I thought I was just a college kid.” He cocked his head, fire filling his gaze. “Isn’t that right?”
Before I could respond, he turned away, bending to pull the sheet that covered the pool table up and off it.
I frowned. “I never said that.”
He turned back to me, his rough hands cupping my face as he kissed me, the playfulness of before gone. “No, but that’s what you think.”
Picking me up, he turned and walked the few paces to the table, setting me down on the ledge as he released the hold he had on my lower lip.
“You don’t kiss like a college kid.”
“I don’t fuck like one either.”
Truer words have never been spoken. At that point Olivia and Nate have been dancing around each other for a while and they know that them getting together it is inevitable, so they just give in. And from there it just gets hotter. WOW.

This book is easily one of the best I have read this year. I just loved everything about it. Sports romance. Older woman/younger man. NYC location. Comedy. Angst. Crazy sexual tension you can cut with a knife. And of course lots of sexy times. And all of it is FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC.

EXCERPT

He looked down at the ball and back at me. “It’s not going to pick itself up, you know.”

“Well maybe you should pick it up. You threw it, after all.” He snapped it up and took a step closer to me, pushing the ball into my stomach. “Yes. I did. And now it’s your turn.”

Not touching it, I shook my head. “No thanks, I’m good. I don’t think we need to keep up that charade anymore.”

“You mean to tell me you’re gonna break your promise to that little girl?”

“I like to think of it more as a white lie than a promise.”

He leaned in closer and shook his head. “Emma, you are not the woman I thought you were.”

“And what kind of woman was that?”

“My kind.”

I stepped back, unable to cope with his nearness but before I could get anywhere, his hand wrapped around my arm, placing the ball firmly in mine. “Three tries, that’s all I’m asking.”

I rolled my eyes. “Fine, but only three. I can already tell I’ll regret this.”

Will’s eyes lit up in delight. “Great. First things first…you need to get your grip right.” Taking my hand, he placed it over the ball, making sure my fingertips were sitting over the laces. He continued to rattle off instructions, but I found myself only half listening, content to watch his big hands sitting on top of mine.

“You ready to give it a try?” I looked up into his eyes, seeing that he was genuinely serious about wanting to teach me. It wasn’t a joke to him. The poor guy…I was going to be such a disappointment.

“Yep, let’s do this.” Feeling like an idiot, I stepped forward and threw the ball, watching it land a few pitiful meters away. Suitably humiliating, as expected. “Well, I think that just about does it for today. Same time next week?”

“Not so fast little lady, I’ve still got two more tries with you.” He swooped the ball up and came back to my side. Placing it back in my hand, he covered it with his own and drew my arm back behind me. “You need to work on your delivery. You should feel it right through your body, the power starting in your legs and moving through your core to give your arm momentum.” He wrapped an arm around my waist and planted a firm hand right across my stomach. He was so close that I could feel his breath on my neck.

“Take a step forward on your left foot.” I did and he followed, his body mimicking mine as he followed the path past my ear and extended my arm forward with his. I was literally enclosed by Will. My own personal Will Jensen-branded blanket. I should mass produce them—I bet they’d sell like hotcakes.

I could feel every hard edge of his honed-to-perfection body against mine and the heat that pulsed between his front and my back sent goose bumps shooting across my skin. My body said stay, my head shouted run and my heart was lost somewhere between the two. I was going to have to put a halt to these occurrences if I wanted to avoid an early-onset stroke.

His voice was low and soft when he spoke. “Do you see what I mean?”

“Yeah, I see.” I could feel his eyes on me, his face only inches from mine. I willed myself not to look, afraid of what I would find.

I looked.

We locked eyes and I felt his arm around my waist tighten ever so slightly. His eyes moved down to my lips, his own parting slightly as his breath shallowed and I was sure this was it, my defences no longer able to say no to this perfect man. I was petrified of his kiss, yet desperate for it at the same time. He looked back into my eyes and must have seen both the fear and longing there. Drawing in a sharp breath, he gently pulled away, giving me a small smile.

“Okay, give it another try.” His arm around my waist came away and the next thing I knew, his hand landed on my backside with a firm slap.

“Whoa! Did you really just go there?”

“Just giving you the full on-field treatment, Bambi.”

And then he winked.
