Loving her might cost him everything…

Disgraced cop Henrik Vance is having a shit year. Banished to a derelict undercover squad, he’s been tasked with hunting down the daughter of Chicago’s most dangerous criminal. His obsession with saving the beautiful girl destroyed his career. And this time, it might cost his life.

Ailish O’Kelly doesn’t need a hero. She’ll save herself from her father’s violent criminal dynasty, thank you very much. Unfortunately, the sexy as sin cop who crashes her hideout isn’t hearing reason—especially not after the kiss that becomes much more.

His boss wants her as an informant. Ailish wants Henrik to keep whispering filthy things against her skin. But she knows too well the evil they’re up against, and when it comes down to protecting the man who owns her body and soul, she only has one choice…

My review

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Well. Henrik is quite the intense individual, isn't he? We met him in the last book and managed to get a little bit of his backstory. He is an ex-cop who destroyed evidence to save someone from going to jail which resulted in him losing his job. That someone was Ailish O'Kelly, daughter of Chicago's biggest criminal, and despite only meeting once and exchanging a few words, Henrik fell for her. But then she disappeared.

Now that Henrik is working with Derek and the rest of the crew, he has resources at his disposal that he can use to find her. And he needs to find her before her father does. Once he does track Ailish down he then has to convince her to come work with them. She knows things about her father's criminal activity that can help bring him down and they need her help.

Convincing her is not a piece of cake and then add in the fact that she is quite the spitfire and isn't above using her sexuality to get what she wants. And that is the LAST thing Henrik expects her to do and it takes everything he has to not take her up on that offer. But of course he eventually does and the two of them together is INTENSE. I mean, like, WOW. Like most Tessa Bailey books, the sex scenes are super hot and you'll need a cold shower to cool off.

When it comes to Ailish, Henrik is a big teddy bear. More than anything he wants to keep Ailish safe and a continued presence in his life. He gets some help from the rest of the crew and if things work out the way they hope it will, he may even get his badge back.

I'm sad to see this series end, but I think that Tessa ended on a great note. The epilogues drops some info on what is in store for the group in the future and I found myself extremely happy with what I read.

EXCERPT

Henrik’s sigh blew her hair back like a stiff gust of wind. “While I’m with you, Ailish, I’m working. There are lines I can’t cross.”

Even knowing it was a little evil, nothing could suppress the pop of excitement in her belly. She was alone with a man—a gorgeous man—who wanted her. But had to keep his hands off. It was a tease’s paradise, and they were both screwed. Or not screwed, depending on your point of view. “We can’t sleep together.”

“No.” He dropped his needful gaze to her breasts again. “We can’t.”

She executed her best nonchalant shoulder shrug. “Oh.”

“You’re smiling again.”

Ailish couldn’t stifle her chuckle. Man oh man, she really liked this big ol’ man, and they’d only just met. He deserved a fair warning about what he was getting himself into. “Henrik, you should probably put as much distance between you and me as possible. I really like that you want me. And I probably won’t be able to help trying to keep it that way.” She drew a lazy circle on his abdomen with her index finger, watching in awe as the ridged muscle shuddered under her touch. “For instance, I’d love to tell you I’m wearing cheap white panties and you can see clear through them in the right light.”

His body did this kind of heave, right at Ailish, flattening her backside against the sink. Their mouths were suddenly so close, she could feel his hot puffs of breath on her lips, feel his chest lifting and falling where it met her breasts. “I don’t like hearing that you’ve talked to other men that way.”

“I haven’t,” she whispered. “I don’t. I usually just—”

“I do not want to know.”

Henrik made a subtle move, just a downward roll of his hips that dragged his erection over the crotch of her leggings. But it wasn’t really subtle at all because he stopped right over her clit and nudged forward. She nearly jumped out of her skin, it was so unexpected, her body’s deluge of need so extreme. “H’oh boy.”

His mouth sifted through the hair covering her ear. “Tease me as much as you want. Just don’t try to send me packing again. Are we clear?”

“I told you I don’t like being ordered around.”

He rasped the stubble of his jaw against her neck. “You’d love the way I do it.”

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days.

Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of eight years and four-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

BLOG TOUR, REVIEW, EXCERPT & GIVEAWAY: Up in Smoke (Crossing the Line #2) by Tessa Bailey

Meet Ex- Navy Seal Connor in UP IN SMOKE!

AVAILABLE NOW

Barnes & Noble: http://bit.ly/1LeB123

Never start a fire you can't control...

Connor Bannon is supposed to be dead. Dishonorably discharged from the Navy SEALs, he's spent the last two years working as a street enforcer in Brooklyn for his cousin's crime ring. Through a twist of fate, he's now in Chicago, working undercover to bust criminals. But when a cute little arsonist joins the team-all combat boots, tiny jean shorts, and hot-pink hair-Connor's notorious iron control slips.

Erin "she's getting away" O'Dea knows two things. She hates authority. And... Nope, that's it. When she's forced to operate on the "right" side of the law, her fear of being confined and controlled blazes to the surface. The last thing she expects is a control freak like Connor to soothe her when she needs it most. Worse, something behind the sexy ex-soldier's eyes ignites a dangerous inferno of desire. One that invites Erin to play with fire. And one that could get them both killed...

EXCERPT

As if her thoughts had made him appear, Connor strode into the courthouse. Her pulse started beating double time, her stomach muscles tightening. Good Lord, the man was a fucking panty dropper. She’d only been away from him for a few hours and it felt like years since she’d experienced his presence. In jeans and a fitted gray T-shirt that molded to his muscles like her hands itched to do, he personified confidence and authority. Hot, rugged male. His gaze connected with hers immediately and darkened. She thought back to that morning when he’d dressed in the early morning light, his abs flexing as he pulled the shirt over his head. His erection barely contained by his boxers. She’d never been one to beg for anything, but she’d been seconds from offering him her mouth. Pleading for the privilege of sucking him off.

Conner shook his head at her with a sexy half smile on his face, as if he could read her thoughts across the room. He stopped at the metal detector and walked through after the security guard beckoned him forward. When the woman grabbed her wand and instructed him to raise his hands in the air, something ugly reared its head deep inside her. The detector hadn’t even beeped. There was no reason for the personal service. When the woman smiled at Connor and ran a hand down her ponytail, Erin propelled herself forward, boots echoing on the polished marble.

Erin hissed as she drew even with the guard. “If you’re done feeling up my boyfriend, I’d love a turn. We were in a rush this morning.”

The guard dropped the wand, letting it dangle near her thigh. “Did you just hiss at me?”

Erin hissed again.

“Okay.” Connor stepped between them, winking down at her. “We should go. Don’t want to keep the clerk waiting.”

Appreciation spread in her belly like honey. He hadn’t chided her for her behavior or apologized to the woman on her behalf. Instead he’d given the impression they were on their way to get married, appeasing her jealousy in one fell swoop. “That’s right.” She sauntered toward the elevator. “There’s vows to be exchanged. Rings to put on fingers. Shit like that.”

She glanced behind her to find Connor staring at her ass as she walked, so she put a little swing in her hips and savored his groan. Damn. She’d definitely never had this much fun at a courthouse.

A moment later, she and Connor stepped into an empty elevator. She hit the button for the top floor even though the clerk was on the first, and leaned back against the wall, looking up at him through her eyelashes. “How was your morning, baby? Was it worth leaving me in bed, all hot and bothered for you?”

“Fuck no, it wasn’t.” He crooked a big finger at her. “Climb on up here.”

My Review

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow. Holy cow! Tessa outdid herself with this one. I thought my e-reader was going to melt at one point. Connor claimed Erin the moment he met her. The scene were the two of them first meet was filled with so much sexual tension...WOW.

We met Connor in series' previous book. We didn't learn too much about him, so he was kind of a mystery going into this book. He is now in Chicago and part of a misfit group of ex-cons who are now working on the right side of the law. This group not only includes Erin, but also Bowen and Sera and it is headed up by Derek. YAY!! Bowen and Sera! And Derek! The crew is rounded out by Polly and Austin who we will get to know better in the next book.  Can't wait!!

Erin was an interesting character. She had a horrific childhood and a past that is slowly catching up to her, so it's no surprise that she is one tough cookie with some major issues, the biggest being that she can't stand to be touched. I love how she held her own when she first met Connor. Most people would be intimidated by him, but not Erin. I did worry about her though. She was so intent on dealing with things herself I was worried that her stubbornness would lead to her getting seriously hurt.

Connor. Sexy, dirty talking, former Navy Seal Alpha with a heart of gold Connor. I already knew that despite his reputation and tough exterior he was a good guy. But this book shed some light on just how good he is. Sure he was dishonorably discharged from the Navy, but when we find out the reason why, it made me like him even more. I loved him!

Now let's do some math. Erin + Connor = HOLY HOTNESS. These two might be one of the steamiest couples Tessa has written. And she has written some couples that have caused a panty change....or two or three. Erin has a lot of issues and puts up a lot of walls, but Connor manages to break through those walls. And Erin lets him. That's the important part. Their relationship is far from perfect and they will most likely have a bumpy road ahead of them, but these two were made for each other.

In between all the sexiness, there is a job that the misfit crew is working on. I had my doubts about them, but I loved how well they worked together. They each had their specialty and did what they had to do to get the job done. And when one of their own needed help, they didn't hesitate. By the end of the book they are their own little family and that just warmed my heart.

So long story short.....if you are a Tessa Bailey fan, this book is a must read. So go 1-click!

Thank you for your interest in my books! I'm Tessa and I live in the crazy, loud, overcrowded borough of Brooklyn, New York. I love it here. This city is a constant source of inspiration, which is why I've decided to set my most recent books in the Line of Duty Series here.

I moved to New York when I was eighteen, the day after I graduated high school. Threw my suitcase in the back of a Chevrolet Cavalier and drove across the country to find my adventure. I'm still finding it, little by little.Thank you for being a part of it.
