Blurb

This isn’t my life. Okay, it is my life, but not the way I envisioned it would be.

I wasn’t supposed to be a divorced mother of three when I turned the big 4-0.  Sure, I expected the fine lines, gray hairs and left over baby belly.  What I didn’t expect was expanding our family get-togethers by one… my ex-husband’s new child bride.  Ok, ok, she’s not young.  Maybe.

Did I mention this is not the life I planned?

It could always be worse, I know. I’m lucky to have a mother who loves to babysit, a best friend who loves sarcasm, and a new friend by the name of Greg, who is apparently a child whisperer and tells me my eyes are pretty.

Sigh… Greg.

The perfect, Adonis-like God of a man who keeps flirting with me. At least I think he’s flirting with me. It’s been so long, I don’t really know.

Between birthday parties, a few ill-advised bouts with make-up, and a whole slew of gymnastics classes, it’s finally time to take back some control.

So, while my girls learn all about how to grip the bar, I’m going to learn how to get a grip on my life.  And maybe my heart.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

First things first. Elena's ex husband is the absolute WORST. Thanks to him, her self esteem is terrible and she is constantly doubting herself. But I guess that is what happens when your husband leaves you for a younger woman. But thank god for best friends. When the book opens we meet Elena's best friend Callie. Callie is Elena's biggest cheerleader and I immediately liked her. She's hilarious, full of sass and I definitely want to be friends with her.

One day, while Callie and Elena are at their usual gym play date, they meet Greg. Oh Greg. *sigh* I'm pretty sure if DILF was in the dictionary (I checked the Oxford online...it's not), there would be a picture of Greg. (Yes, I know it's a book, but you know what I mean.) He has no trouble befriending both Callie and Elena, but it's clear that he has eyes only for Elena. Their gym meetups become a regular thing and everyone is better for it. Their kids get along like a house on fire and there were plenty of funny moments that made me laugh out loud more than once.

When Elena and Greg decide to give a relationship a shot, they are both a little awkward, but at the same time they are also very comfortable around each other. And the way their relationship progressed...everything about it just felt very real. Both single parents. Both dealing with the bullshit from their exes. Both trying overcome certain insecurities. They were just so great together!

I've never been married. I don't have kids. And I don't know what it's like to go through what Elena went through, but I still found myself relating to a lot of the book. Elena's self esteem issues. The self doubt. The whole moving on and getting back into the dating thing. It's scary stuff. But she couldn't have found a better partner in all of this. Greg may not be perfect, but he is perfect for HER. Elena goes on a wonderful journey with him and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Gah! This book! I just loved it so much. (I'll even forgive M.E....girl, you know what you did!)

Author Bio

Mother, reader, storytellerME Carter never set out to write books. But when a friend practically forced a copy of Twilight into her hands, the love of the written word she had lost as a child was rekindled. With a story always rolling around in her head, it should come as no surprise that she finally started putting them on paper. She lives in Texas with her four children, Mary, Elizabeth, Carter and Bug, who sadly was born long after her pen name was created, and will probably need extensive therapy because of it.
