One word.
Stay.

It was all he had to do. Instead, he got on that bus and took my heart with him.

That was seventeen years ago.

I moved on. Marriage. Kids. White picket fence. Everything I ever wanted, but my husband betrayed me and I was left once again.

Alone, penniless, and with two boys, I had no choice but to return to Tennessee. He wasn’t supposed to be there. I should’ve been safe. However, fate has a way of stepping in.

This time around, the tables are turned. It’s my decision. Second chances do exist, but I don’t know if we can repair what’s already been broken . . .

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
That's the thing about young love in a small town - it never dies.
Amen.

I think this book may be the ultimate second chance romance. As teenagers, Zach and Presley, who have known each other their whole lives, fall in love. They plan a future together, but then Zach makes one decision that destroys everything they have built. They go their separate ways. Presley gets married and seems to have the perfect family, but then tragedy strikes and she is forced to go back to the one place she never wanted to go back to...home. Zach also moves on, but his life doesn't turn out the way he hoped and unbeknownst to her, has also moved home. So the two of them are back in the same town and things are about to get interesting. And a little bit sexy. Okay....a whole lot sexy.

Presley returning home to the family farm is the last thing she wants to do, but she is out of options. Upon returning home she runs into some familiar faces, including Wyatt, who is now foreman at her family's farm. She has known Wyatt her whole life and the two of them have a special bond. He is also the brother of the boy who broke her heart all those years ago. Despite that, the two of them have a fantastic friendship and at times it felt like he was her only true friend.

One of the faces she was not happy to see was Zach. The two of them never got closure about what happened between them, but now they are older and wiser. They have to exist in the same small town and live their lives. Once they see each other for the first time in years, a shift occurs in both of their lives. Zach starts to question his current relationship and Presley starts to wonder if she could ever forgive him for what happened. It becomes quite clear that both of them still harbor feelings for the other person and after they start spending time together I couldn't help but want them to work things out and live happily ever after.

Zach was the sweetest and was so patient with Presley. She was wary to start anything, especially since she has two sons who may not completely understand what is going on. Book boyfriend material? Zach is the best kind of book boyfriend material. Throughout the book they both have to deal with some tough truths that make reconciling hard, but it's clear they these two belong together.

By the end of the first chapter I was crying my eyes out. On the subway. (Damn you Corinne!) The book starts in such a terrible place and I kept saying to myself, "Well it can only get better, right? I mean it has to get better." And it does, but it takes a little bit before things finally get going. Watching Zach and Presley rekindle their relationship was amazing. They revisited a lot of places and memories that defined their young relationship, while making new ones that help shape their relationship as adults.

First Corinne gave us military men and now she has given us cowboys. THANK YOU!! Wyatt (love him!) will be getting his own books and I have a feeling that one will be a doozy. I can't wait to see what woman will lasso him!  ;-)

EXCERPT

“Hey.” Zach peers at me as I shake off my thoughts. “I figured you’d be asleep.” He climbs the steps slowly as I get to my feet.

“I figured you’d be gone.”

I walk toward him, unsure of why he’s here. “I left for a bit, but wanted to come check on you.”

“Oh.”

He snickers. “I couldn’t sleep.”

“Me either.” He’s close enough that I can smell his cologne. Even after a long night, being in the woods, he smells like home.

I take another step.

Then another.

I’m so close I have to tilt my head to look into his eyes.

I breathe him in, feel his heat, and I can’t stop myself. I want him. I need him. I grip his neck and yank his mouth to mine. I kiss him. I kiss him and give in to everything I’ve been feeling. He doesn’t waste a second. His arms wrap around me, holding my body against his. My fingers grip his neck, keeping him exactly where I need him. This kiss is frantic, but God it feels good.
