It started out like any other morning on the train.

Graham: What are you wearing, Soraya?

Soraya: Are you serious right now?

Graham: You ruined my day. You owe me.

Soraya: I don’t owe you anything, you fucking perv.

Graham: This from the woman who sent me a shot of her cleavage. Nice tits, by the way. They’re so big, at first, I thought it was a picture of an ass.

Soraya: You’re the ass.

Graham: Show me your face.

Soraya: Why?

Graham: Because I want to see if it matches your personality.

Soraya: Which would mean what?

Graham: Well, that wouldn’t bode well for you.

Soraya: You won’t ever see my face.

Graham: Probably better off. So, give me a hint about what you’re wearing.

Soraya: It’s red.

Graham: So you haven’t changed out of that dress?

Soraya: No, I’m naked with dye dripping down my body and my tongue is throbbing thanks to you.

That was an odd thing to say.

Graham: That’s an interesting visual.

Soraya: You are seriously crazy, dude.

Graham: I AM a little crazy, actually. I probably need my head checked because I’ve been fantasizing about a headless person all day.

Soraya: Well, the naked pic ain’t gonna happen.

Graham: How about I go first?

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A few things happened while reading this book. The first thing to happen was that I cried my eyes out, while reading the first couple chapters. Then I went on FB to yell at Ahren for making me cry right away and to also tell her that she is very clever and also a bit mean. ;-) The second thing to happen was that I fell in love with Finn pretty much from the moment he was introduced in the book. That dude is the ultimate book boyfriend. **swoon** The third thing was that we were introduced to Finn's friend and I decided that I want to Weird Science (yeah, i'm using that as a verb) EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.

From the moment Finn meets Presley, he is drawn to her. He can't explain it, but when fate intervenes and he sees her again, he knows he has to do something about it. And while Presley feels the same way about Finn, she is hesitant to start anything with him. She has a habit of playing it safe with her relationships and starting one with Finn would be the opposite of that. Finn's nickname is "Hero" and he was given that name for a reason. He is everything Presley should run away from, but everyone in their lives, and I mean EVERYONE, can see that there is something between them.

Finn. Finn basically perfect. When he asks Presley out and she turns him down because she has a standing date with her niece Winnie, he doesn't hesitate to join them. So Presley and Finn's first date is at a Chick-fil-A, with a four year old. And if that isn't enough to warm your heart, this exchange happened:

“Hey, what about me?” She puffs and waves at herself.

What happens next will stay in my brain forever.Finn reaches across the table and takes her small hand in his, at the same time his grip on my shoulder tightens.

“Pardon me, little miss, I meant I’m lucky enough to have two dates tonight, Presley and Winnie.”

Her little face lights up, and she nods approvingly at me.

Instantly, my heart melts.

Me too, Presley. Me too.

And that isn't the only time Finn does something like that. Throughout the course of the book, he not only tells Presley how much he cares for her, but he is constantly showing her. Their path to a happily ever after isn't easy and they have to go through some difficult stuff to get there. They both do things that had me yelling at my e-reader and telling them to get their shizz together and stop acting like children, BUT I never once doubted the feelings they had for each other. 

This book is a stand alone, but some of the characters were introduced in Ahren's Surrender series. (Full disclosure: I have not read the Surrender series so all the characters were knew to me. I HATED Raven. So much that I don't even want to go back and read her story. Okay, maybe I will some day, but as of right now I just can't. Haha.) So if you enjoyed that series, you will want to pick up Finn. But you don't have to have read that series to enjoy this book. So go ahead and scroll on up back up the page and click on your platform of choice and meet Finn and the gang. You won't be disappointed. 

Ahren spent her formative years living in an active volcano. There her family made collectible lava art. She studied rock collecting at the Sorbonne in France. There she met the love of her life-her pet pig Sybil. She returned to the states and started writing. She is happily married to a guy who used to live under a bridge and she met while pole-dancing. They have one amazing daughter.

Now, meet the real me. I grew up in the south and consider myself a true “Southerner”. Most of the special locations mentioned in my books are reflections of my favorite places. Living on the Florida coast, my family spends a lot time at the beach, which is where I usually can be found with a book in my hand.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. 

It's been 49 months and three days since Vaughn has seen River. He broke her heart and left her a sobbing mess in a hotel room. But thanks to Sarge's actions in Crashed Out, Vaughn has returned home. I think it's safe to say while she was expecting him to come back, River was still surprised to see him. 

Vaughn. I freaking loved him. I loved how pretty much from the moment he saw a picture of Marcy he knew he wasn't going anywhere. I loved watching Vaughn and Marcy rediscover their relationship while at the same time he was forming a bond with Marcy. And the first meeting between father and daughter was so sweet. The two of them shared some really special moments throughout the book that just warmed my ice cold heart. And the moment when River tells Macy who Vaughn is...talk about tear inducing.

River is one tough lady and I was actually surprised at how easily River let him back into her life. Especially after we learn what actually happened the day he left. But it is obvious from the moment the two of them are in front of each other that they have a lot of unresolved feelings. And because this is a Tessa Bailey book those feelings play out in the most delicious way. All I will say is if there was a Tessa Bailey Dirty Talk Olympics, Vaughn would definitely take home a medal. I mean...HOLY SHIT.  

I love how Tessa can make me want a cold shower one moment, laughing out loud from something Duke (DUKE!!) said, and then have me reaching for the kleenex because of a sweet moment. And speaking of Duke...I LOVE his sisters. I just kept picturing Joey's sisters from Friends and it made me laugh. I cannot wait to read Duke's book. I have a feeling I'm going to like him...A LOT.

Forty-nine months and three days.

That was how long it had been since he’d seen her.

Vaughn swayed to the right, his shoulder slamming up against the wall. Then he kind of just hung there, counting forward and backward from one to ten. Not helping. Not helping. His stomach pitched at the sight of River walking through the drunks, like a nurse walking among the wounded on a battlefield. She could still knock his lights out on sight. Not that he’d doubted it for a second. But God, if it were possible, she’d grown even more beautiful over the last forty-nine months. Her blond hair was tied up in a ponytail, a pencil stuck through the base, in a way he remembered well enough to make his throat go raw. In a short black skirt and fitted white T-shirt, River tried to look the part of indifferent barmaid, but didn’t pull it off.

Not by a stretch.

Eyes Vaughn knew were just a shade darker than cornflower blue flitted to each table, and her fingers tugged on the skirt’s hem self-consciously every time she approached a new one. When she fumbled with the notepad, recovering with a nervous laugh, a choked sound left Vaughn. “Riv,” he whispered.

She looked up so fast, he might as well have shouted. The sudden impact of having River’s focus on him after such an extended period of time without it released a rushing sound between his ears, blocking out the sad lounge act…and apparently someone asking if he needed a table. Because when Vaughn snapped back to reality, a man he towered over by at least a foot was in his face. Snapping his fingers.

“I wouldn’t…” Vaughn shook his head to clear it, experiencing a resurgence of anger, this time for having his attention diverted from where he needed it to be. On River.

“I wouldn’t advise snapping your fingers in my face again.”

“Why’s that, huh?”

A toss of blond hair snagged Vaughn’s gaze as his angelic ex-girlfriend zigzagged through the crowd, drawing more than just his notice. Ah no, quite the opposite. She was putting on an unwitting show for every man in the room, attracting lecherous looks by virtue of being her beautiful self, light in a dark tunnel, same way she’d always been.

Finger snapped in front of his face. Again. “This is my place and I asked you a question.”

“This is your place?” Vaughn asked. God, one hour back in Jersey and already his accent had thickened from water to oil. “You hired River Purcell to clean up tables?”

“That’s right.”

Vaughn plowed a fist into the underside of the man’s jaw, watching him fall backward onto the sticky concrete floor with detachment that slowly morphed into satisfaction. So much for calm, he thought, shaking out his right hand.
