It is truth universally acknowledged, that a single woman in possession of a dead-end job, shoebox studio apartment, and zany, intensely loyal friends, must be in want of a man.

But in my wildest dreams, I never expected that man to remember me selling overpriced KoolAid in my Rainbow Brite underpants when I was six years old. Life is unpredictable.

Fraser Drake was the least sexy boy when we were growing up: all elbows and knees and khaki pleats and debate club. But right now, in my mother's kitchen, he's never looked hotter, more irresistible. Granted, he's looking down on me as I expertly dance the sock hop scene from Grease. But behind those layers of haughty indifference, I detect the hint of lust.

He is everything I never knew I wanted. Since I met him, my feet haven't touched the ground and my smile hasn't left my face. His laugh is like a well-aged scotch, and I have a feeling I could get drunk on it.

If a Pride and Prejudice/Bridget Jones’s Diary mash-up but with more sex, sexual tension, and sexy sex, sounds good to you, you've come to the right place.

RELEASE BOOST: Dating the Billionaire by Poppy Dunne

Title: Dating the Billionaire
Author: Poppy Dunne
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: July 12, 2017

Blurb

I'm Dahlia Rossi, dating coach extraordinaire. I know how to land you the man of your dreams. Follow my rules, you'll meet the love of your life and have a gorgeous destination wedding in French Polynesia. Okay, that last one happened just the one time. But my rules work every time. I guarantee it.

1. The man makes the first move. Seems unfair? Life's unfair.
2. Never have sex on the first date. No, not even oral. And hands above the table, please.
3. Play hard to get, but don't make it too hard.

Solid rules, right? I thought they were. But then I met Jack Carraway, an impossibly sexy, frustratingly unpredictable billionaire, and broke them all. Everywhere. In an elevator. On a balcony. Beneath a gazebo, of all places.

Whether I like it or not (spoiler alert: I like it!), Jack is taking me on wild adventure and we're writing a whole new set of rules. Like, always reserve your matching Harry Potter costumes a week in advance; wrestling swans is not as easy as it looks; and sometimes, the man of your dreams pops up in the most unlikely of places and has a really big...boat.

After years of watching couples find love, it may be my turn. But is this spontaneous playboy the real thing, or just a fun detour around my predictable life? All this time I've been following my own rules and going to sleep alone, with nothing but my second slice of princess cake to keep me company.

But the more time I spend with Jack, the more I learn that rules...they're meant to be broken.

In love there's only one rule: there are no rules.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Dahlia is a dating coach and has a specific set of rules. Rules that not only her clients live by, but rules she lives by. The rules have always worked. For both her and her clients. But then she meets Jack.

The minute these two lay eyes on each other they feel a connection. And Dahlia immediately starts breaking her rules. And surprisingly, she is okay with it. Jack is different than the men in her past. He challenges her. They have fun, playful relationship from the very start. And their chemistry is off the charts hot.

“I thought we had a pretty strong, forceful connection at the Carlyle.” I take another drink, never tearing my eyes from hers. Dahlia doesn’t give in. She doesn’t get intimidated. In fact, I feel her foot slide right up the side of my leg again, under the table. Now I’m at full mast, ladies and gentlemen. When the waiter comes by again, I have to bend over and pretend I like reading the menu when it’s in my lap.
After they take our order—she wanted oysters—we get back to what’s most important: flirtation, and my raging hard-on.
“We did have a very strong connection. Very aggressive.” She shrugs, wrinkling her nose. “But that’s just lust.”
“Lust can’t be a little fun?” I slide my hand along her smooth leg, rucking up her skirt a bit. Dahlia shifts a little, but doesn’t lodge my hand off her knee. Good. It likes the place it’s found. Very comfortable. Maybe it’ll buy a house on this exact spot and take out a mortgage.
This is going a little far, so I’ll stop.
“Well, I’m here, aren’t I?” Her dark eyes glint in the candlelight. I tighten my grip a little, and she responds with a gasp, her lips parted.
Is it rude to have sex on top of your dinner? My mother used to have a book of Emily Post’s guide to manners, which warned against that sort of thing. Then again, Dad kept a ton of Playboys out in the garage, so I feel mingling the two is an homage to how I was raised.
The oysters are laid out in front of us, the ice gleaming, the lemon wedges all…lemon. I don’t get poetic about food. Not my style. But watching Dahlia expertly add a little sauce and a squirt of citrus before swallowing said oyster, her eyes closed as she luxuriates…that I could wax poetic about.
I’ll become the Alfred, Lord Tennyson of watching Dahlia Rossi eat, only without the title and the stupid beard.
“Oysters are an aphrodisiac,” I say, helping myself. Dahlia chases hers with another sip of martini.
“Do you really need the help?” She bats her lashes as I lean forward and graze my fingers up the length of her leg. I trace the expanse of her thigh, and her eyes go saucer wide. Careful, Jack. You don’t want to go too far too fast. Except you do, but you’d rather not get sued.
“Do I need the help?” I ask, keeping my voice low. She bites her bottom lip.
“Or does the help need you?” She blinks. “Yeah, I should wait on another martini before I get some more meat into me. Food. Food that can be meat based or not. I do what I want.”
“I’m sure you do.” The combination of sultry looks and fast-running mouth are a deadly combination in this woman. I move back a little, and return to my drink. Dahlia glances out the window, and frowns.
“Is that swan…watching us?”
“Forget it,” I nearly growl. All I know is I want this woman more than I can remember wanting anyone or anything. No one, no man or woman or bird is getting in my way tonight.

This book is a quick, fun read and I found myself laughing out loud more than once. Dahlia and Jack are wonderful characters and I couldn't help but love them!

book blurb

The first time I saw Will Munroe I had him pegged as a typical LA douchebag—a little too handsome, a little too rich, a little too into his probiotic kale smoothies. The next time I ran into him—at his daughter’s parent/teacher conference (me: teacher, he: parent)—I noticed his steel grey eyes, his hard chest under a crisp white button down, and his suggestively bare ring finger. I was hooked.

If life really imitated art, he’d have swept me off my feet and taken me right there on the principal's desk. Instead, we are stuck in our assigned roles. He’s the workaholic single dad of a precocious girl child, and I’m her fiery substitute teacher. Never the two shall meet. Enter one zany, yurt-dwelling ex-wife, a stock market that never sleeps, and some over-the-top, A-list fundraisers, and I've got plenty of drama ahead. Better to keep my hands to myself.

But when Will asks me out for a pancake breakfast, how can I resist? My heart (and my stomach) say yes, but am I willing to risk my job for a short stack and a romp in the hay? A slow, sensual, mind-blowing romp in the hay…

But where there’s a Will…

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Chelle is a substitute teacher who never really knows where she will end up . Will is a successful businessman who is also a father to Amelia, a rambunctious ten year old, who he loves more than anything in the world. Chelle and Will (and their dogs) have an adorable meet cute while running one morning. When Will gets called into a teacher meeting about his daughter's issues with her "energy transference" the last person he expects to see is Chelle. She is currently working at Amelia's (very interesting) school and has taken an immediate liking to her. She recognizes the little girl's spirit and wants to help her thrive in the offbeat school's environment. Will, only having Amelia part of the time, wants the same thing so he does what any parent would do...become a school volunteer.

Luckily for Chelle this means that the two of them will be spending lots of time together while trying to stage an untraditional version of Oliver. Will's participation means meetings that turn into dates and pie runs that turn into super hot car sex. They find themselves trying to navigate the whole relationship thing while trying to not only keep it a secret from the school, but also Will's wacky (almost) ex wife. These two couldn't be more different, but as a couple, they are perfect for each other.

I loved this book. Poppy's writing is so witty and I laughed so much while reading it. Whether it's the quirky characters doing ridiculous things or just dialogue between characters, I actually found myself laughing out loud more than once. Then you have the super sexy moments between Chelle and Will. WOW. These two had wonderful chemistry that I felt from the moment their dogs started humping each other on the running trail. And then I couldn't wait for Will and Chelle to do the same!

excerpt

I’m asking for a tissue when he sweeps me up into his arms and kisses me. His mouth covers mine, nothing tentative about it. It’s a masterful kiss, him claiming my mouth over and over again. My arms twine around his neck, when what I should be doing is pushing him away with a Scarlett O’Hara “I do dee-clayah! Mr. Munroe!” But I don’t. Instead, I pull him closer, feeling the scrape of his stubble against my cheek. He tastes like breath mints from heaven, or something else celestial and minty fresh. When we finally pull apart—which body does not want, but brain insists on—I find I can finally exhale. Will lowers me back to the ground like I’m floating back out of a dream, back to my job and the school and…the fact that I’m still doing my job at the school.

While snogging a parent.

Snogging’s a great word.

Okay, brain. Let’s get back to it.

“That was…” Will’s voice trails off. The tone is deep, rugged, sexy.

I respond, “Shhweee.” I think I was looking for the word sweet, but we’ll never know.

“Very,” he agrees. He steps away, even though every molecule in my body right now is telling me to fling myself back at this tall, infuriating, infuriatingly gorgeous man. But just as I’m about to throw caution and my bra to the wind, someone adorable comes bouncing up to us, her mouse-eared hoodie still on.

4 1/2 Star Review: Room Service by Poppy Dunne

ROOM SERVICE
by Poppy Dunne
Adult Contemporary Romantic Comedy

Goodreads

I've spent seven nights cooped up in this five star hotel, sleeping on 1000 thread count sheets and working sixteen hours a day. At least room service is covered under my expense account. But all work and no play leaves a girl dateless for her brother's wedding.

Prospects aren't totally bleak, though. Four meals a day, I get to drool over this sexy room service guy: he's got a perfect body, easy smile, and a sense of humor that has me snorting over my personal pizza. He's all that and a bag of chips. Specifically, the jumbo bag of ranch barbecue chips that I ordered for breakfast out of desperation on Day Four.

I finally found the courage to 'accidentally' let my bathrobe slip, and ask him to be my plus one at my brother's wedding. So maybe I had to offer him a little money. So what? There's no way I can face my family, make my ex rue the day he left me, or screw off this work stress without his helping hand.

But what happens when I find myself falling for my fake, paid-for boyfriend? Judging by the comped mozzarella sticks he brought me for breakfast, maybe there's a chance he's falling for me too?

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review.

Alex is in NYC for business and for her brother's wedding. As much as she loves and adores her brother and future sister in law, the rest of her family and her douchey ex boyfriend who also happens to be the bride's cousin are about to make the wedding weekend miserable. Luckily for Alex the man delivering her room service, Ben, is gorgeous and is free to be her boyfriend for the weekend. What could go wrong?

Turns out the answer to that question is not that much. Sure there are some speed bumps along the way thanks to her crazy, god awful family and super creepy ex boyfriend, but it turns out that Ben is a wonderful person and the chemistry between Alex and Ben is not only HOT, but playful.
“Ben,” I gasp, crying his name over and over as I ride him to my climax.
My body seems to fracture under the weight of the orgasm. I drag my nails down his shoulders as I moan, losing control of his name, my name, the whole goddamn English language as I come. The room goes upside down, the picture exploding as I come longer—and louder—than I ever have before. Ben throws me backward onto the bed, and with a last few thrusts, cries out as he finishes. Then we’re lying there, both of us panting for breath.
Jesus, even though he’s big enough to be crushing me, under Ben Williams is exactly where I want to be right now.
Eventually, we disentangle ourselves and lie back in bed, the sheets twisted and twined around us. Nothing beats looking out at a hazy, wintry New York City skyline when you’ve been freshly banged and are hovering on a cloud of good endorphins.
“How do you feel?” I ask Ben.
He waves his hand—so-so. But he also grins, the enormous, sexy asshole that he is. I swat at him and steal a kiss.
“I think that was good calisthenics.” His eyes scan down my body. “You’ve got to work off those mozzarella sticks somehow.”
“Oh?” I prop myself up on an elbow. “You want to be my personal trainer now?”
“Personal trainer. Room server extraordinaire. Hired date. Sex god.” He ticks all the titles off on his fingers. “Yeah, I’ll add one more position to the list.”
About five good ‘position’jokes get into a car jam in my head, so I have to move on. Can’t pick just one.
“Think you’ll be up for another training session soon?” I ask, kissing down his body. And by ‘up,’I of course mean…well, hello. Something’s stirring already down south.
Ben drags me down and rolls on top of me. Yeah, he’s really ready already.
“I haven’t been like this since high school,” he says, kissing my jawline.
“If I made a room service joke right now, would it kill your hard on?” I ask. He stops and ponders.
“I went a little half mast at the thought,” he admits. Another pause. “But it’s back. Keep going.”
So I get service again. With a smile.
Gah! I loved these two so much. They may not have known each other very well, but they got along like gangbusters. Then they took the time to get to know the other person and found out that they actually liked each other. Ben not only played the role she needed him to play, but he also became a friend to Alex. And so much more than that.

This book was HILARIOUS. I started laughing in the first chapter and continued throughout the whole book. Her ridiculous family made me laugh, but also very thankful that I don't know anyone like that. While Alex herself is full of the comedy, there are plenty of delightful secondary characters that had me laughing and thankful that she had them to help get through the terrible weekend. And of course having been Ben there helped too.  ;-)

I'm glad I took a chance on a new author. I look forward to reading future books from Poppy!

EXCERPT

“Really? She’s never mentioned you before,” Mom purrs. But damn it, Ben’s ready for her.

“I wanted to tell everyone right away, but she waited. That’s one of the things I love about her—how wise she is. When you have something special, you take it slow.” Then he leans down and presses his lips to my cheek, just a whisper of a touch. Instantly, and startlingly, my insides kind of gel together. Thank god he’s holding me up. “That’s part of the reason I’m so excited to meet all of the family now. You should be so proud of your daughter.”

His confident smile is killing Mom right now. He’s throwing a bucket of water on her, and we’re watching as the witch melts down to a cream pair of Manolo Blahniks and a spilled cosmopolitan.

Her horror at being unable to mock me gives me life. It spurs me on. Move in for the kill, Alex. I grip Ben by his lapel.

“You always know just what to say,” I murmur, trying to sound kittenish. Then I get up on my tiptoes and kiss him.

It’s supposed to be a moment to make Mom uncomfortable and get out of our faces. But the second our lips connect, a hot spark shoots through my body. Instead of freezing or shoving me away—which Ben could do, because I’m borderline assaulting him right now—he pulls me closer. Our bodies melt together.

My head tips back and I inadvertently sigh into his mouth, my lips opening just a little, and that’s when I feel his tongue trace my lower lip, then stroke against mine just hard enough to make my pulse race. There’s nothing in our verbal contract that mentions making out, but I can’t stop myself from reaching up my arms to twine around his neck. As we kiss his hands slide down my back, a little possessive. I think I’m getting dizzy. Man, this guy is a good actor.

He trails his fingers just above the curve of my ass, too. Classy, but still enough to make an onlooker a little uncomfortable. Bullseye. We break apart, even though part of me would like to stay locked to his face. Mom’s gulped down her drink in one go, clearly desperate to get the hell away from her daughter’s happiness. It feels good.

“Well. You two have a pleasant evening.” She says it like we’re a pair of strangers whom she just walked in on to find screwing in a corner of the bathroom. “Go find Rollie before you…do whatever it is you do.” I want to say ‘have sex in the front hall,’ but think better of it. She walks away from us, stiff-kneed and red-faced. My mother tried to embarrass me and got it thrown right back in her face. It’s like Christmas in February.

Though watching her walk away like I just stripped in front of her is kind of like a stiletto to the heart. Since Todd and I broke up—hell, since I took myself out to California and basically flipped her kind of life the double bird—she’s been distant. At least, more distant than she used to be. I can’t help wishing she could just be happy for me and the man I paid to be my date. Is that so much to ask?
