Tingles rushed, my words nothing more than pants as he kissed down through the valley of my breasts. “Maybe you’re just remembering who you are. Who you were always supposed to be.”

I felt as if I was so close to knowing him. This boy who’s beauty had been muted.

He groaned, half pained, half demand. “You almost make me feel like him.”

Yanking me away from the railing, he hoisted me high. My legs were wrapped high around his chest as he carried me the rest of the way to the upper loft. To this magical place where twilight touched every corner, whispered its secrets and danced in its shadows.

He’d barely tossed me to the bed when he was over me, shoving up my dress and ripping it free, my fingers just as frantic as I tore his shirt over his head. I searched him, hands racing across his chest, feeling the wild beat of his conflicted heart, hearing the struggle that whimpered from his spirit.

Lust and love fought for dominance in his expression when he tore himself away, and he slammed my door shut and ran around to his side. I didn’t hesitate to shift in my seat, my hand going to the flat, rigid planes of his abdomen as he shifted hard, tires squealing as he took to the street. I kissed at his neck and teased at his ear, fingers toying with the waistband of his jeans, while he groaned and tried to focus on the road. 

“You tryin’ to kill me, Shea?” 

I gasped when the car jerked and Sebastian made a sudden, sharp turn, and then another. He screeched to a stop on a deserted side street.

Frantic, his hands roamed, cupping my neck, sliding down my shoulders and arms, thumbs flicking across my breasts. My nipples hardened, and a moan raced up my throat. Christopher groaned and swallowed it down then he gripped me by the hips.

He slammed my back up against hard, hot metal. Pinned to his truck, I gasped, his body towering, consuming, devouring me the exact way I knew he would. His erection strained against his tight, tight jeans, pressing between my thighs, pressing into my stomach. My body trembled with the idea of setting him free, the idea of what he’d feel like pulsing inside of me, taking me right here, in the dark against his truck.

He closed his mouth over my bottom lip, sucking it hard, a direct tether to my sex that clenched, begging for more.

“Fuck.” The word reverberated like a moan from deep within his chest, the urgency in his touch finally tugging at my common sense that had gone numb with the assault of his mouth.

And he felt familiar and right and totally, incredibly wrong, this man I didn’t even know, because I never really had.

He rocked against me, and all those little pleasured places inside of me cried out in tortured relief as my spine grated painfully against metal. My legs tightened their hold on his waist, my hands just as desperate to feel and remember as my heart. But another part of me screamed to stop. To remember.

My Review

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. 

Good lord this book was ANGSTY. Christopher and Samantha were high school sweethearts. They were only together for a couple months when tragedy strikes and he betrays her in the most awful way. They part ways without ever having talked about what happened.  

Cut to 7 years later. Samantha is living with her boyfriend and Christopher's sister Ally moves into a house just down the street. The two reconnect and Samantha does her best to put the past behind her. Of course that doesn't work at all and the first time she sees Christopher, all hell breaks loose. Christopher is VERY angry and at first I thought he was a bit too angry. But it turns out neither of them has moved on from their awful break up and the past come barreling back into their lives. 

My heart broke for these two. Even though they met as teenagers and their relationship could easily been seen as insignificant, they really did love each other. Like heart stopping, all consuming love. They thought that they would be together forever and neither of them take the break up very well. Of course there is more to the story than either of them know and when the truth comes out later in the book, it makes their break up that much more heartbreaking.  

I liked Samantha right from the beginning, but it took me a while to warm up to Christopher. I found his anger towards Samantha to be a bit off putting. And at times he was just really mean to her, but eventually he did win me over. He was actually a very sweet and loving guy who was basically the perfect boyfriend.  

This was my first A.L. Jackson book, so I didn't know what to expect. After reading this book I definitely want to read the previous two books in this series. I really liked Ally and Jared and even though I know how their story ends, I would like see how they got there.
