Review: Wicked Weeked (Vegas Nights #.5) & Reckless Nights (Vegas Nights #1) by Karen Erickson

What happens in Vegas…could be a fantasy come true.

Between nursing school and starting their careers, Reagan, Andrea and Natalie have had no time for dating. After saving up for a special vacation, they’re on their way to Vegas for a long-awaited weekend of fun, sun, gambling and partying.

When their luggage goes missing, an impromptu shopping trip leads them to James, who makes them an unusual offer—to be part of the female scenery at his boss’s upcoming party. Not just any scenery, but women who are pretty in a real way, not the nipped, tucked and dyed Hollywood version.

Accept a “private party” invitation from a complete stranger? These ladies weren't born yesterday. Yet before “no thanks” crosses their lips, Reagan discovers who James’s boss really is: Declan Carter, an actor she’s crushed on for, well, forever. Now she’s determined to be the eye candy who catches Declan’s eye. No matter what it takes…

Warning: Epic shopping trip results in meeting hot men. It is recommended that all credit cards be placed out of reach before reading.

This is a great (very) short story that sets up the rest of the series.
Reagan, Andrea and Natalie go to Vegas and while they are waiting for their luggage to arrive they go shopping and run into James. James is a personal assistant for someone famous and he manages to convince the girls to buy expensive dresses they can't afford, but promises them that it will be worth it. He brings them to a party and it is there that they meet the gorgeous men that will change their lives.

There are three more books in this series. Each friend will get their own book and their own man.

Sometimes dream crushes do come true.

Reagan can’t believe her luck—and not in a good way. One minute she’s hanging out with her friends at an exclusive party in Las Vegas. The next, she’s attracted the attention of a famous actor. Not just any actor. Declan Carter, the man on which she used to—okay, might still—have a fangirl crush. Whose blue eyes leave her embarrassingly tongue tied.

All Declan wants is to meet a nice, normal woman who won’t use him as a stepping stone to fame. Something about Reagan tells him she could be that rare woman, and he follows his instinct to invite her back to his suite—where they proceed to have wild monkey sex. All. Night. Long.

What was supposed to be one night of no-regrets sex stretches out into a blissful weekend of two people who can’t get enough of each other. But when the glamour of Sin City wears off, they’re standing on the edge of a once-in-a-lifetime chance to turn a weekend fling into something lasting. Will they take the jump?

Product Warnings: Smokin’ hot sexy weekend with a gorgeous actor? There shouldn’t be a warning—more like encouragement to indulge your fantasies!

My Review

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

Good lord. This book made me want to call up my closest friends and book a trip to Vegas. If the rest of series is as hot as this one, I just might do that.

Declan is sick of the fake women he meets. He wants a woman who is real. The minute he sees Reagan, he knows that she is different. When he finds out that she is a nurse, he is even more interested. Playing a doctor in the movie he starts shooting next week, he tells her that he wants to pick her brain about her experiences. The two find a quiet place to talk and it isn't long before they are going back to his suite.

The two spend a wonderful weekend together in Declan's hotel room, never leaving it until it is time for Reagan to go home. It's clear that they both do not want whatever is happening between them to end. Declan knows that he has found what he has been looking for in Reagan. The two have an amazing connection and their weekend together leaves them both wanting more.
“Wait.” His voice was ragged, as was his breathing. His hair was a mess, no doubt from her hands, and his lips were swollen. He rested his hands on his hips, looking every inch the hot and bothered man. “We need to take this slow.”
Slow. That was a funny word. Only moments ago she’d been this close to an orgasm. Right now her tense body wanted only fast, fast, fast. “Why?” she asked incredulously.
He laughed. The jerk. He looked quite pleased with himself while she was a shaky, on edge mess. Yes, fine she could see the impressive outline of his erection beneath his jeans, but otherwise he didn’t seem fazed by this pause in the action at all.
“Why? Because I want to savor you.” His expression sobered, went from amused to aroused in mere seconds, and she went still, a shivery sensation seeming to engulf her entire body.
“Savor me?” The words came out in the barest whisper, and he smiled, tilting his head, studying her like she was his favorite subject.
“I have plans, Reagan. Like I said, it’s been a long time, and I want to make this good for both you and me.” His sexy, deep voice was full of promise. Promise she instinctively knew he could one hundred percent deliver.
The phrase "Whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" is not something these two want to comply to and something tells me it will be the same for the rest of the group.

This series is made up of novellas and while it was on the shorter side, there was definitely no shortage of sexy times. There isn't much of a plot, but it didn't matter.

Bring on the next book!

Review: Come Back to Texas (Twelve Beats an a Bar #1) by KK Hendin

Synopsis

Everyone thought we’d be the ones who made it through high school. The ones who’d get married and stay married forever. The example of how young love can work.

We thought so, too.

Too bad life had other plans.

It’s been three years since Hayley and Nate broke each other’s hearts. Three years, and a lot has changed. Hayley’s a freshman in Bushwick University, and the only things keeping her sane are stress baking, and her a cappella group, Twelve Beats in a Bar.

Nate’s a Marine, stationed in Afghanistan. The only thing that’s keeping him sane is the last picture he has of him and Hayley, and the hope that maybe when the hell of deployment is over, he can find her again and apologize.

One explosion will change everything.

When a bomb kills all of Nate’s unit, leaving him missing a leg and eyesight in one eye, he’s sent back home to Texas. Texas, where he loved Hayley more than he could possibly imagine ever loving anyone else.

With seemingly endless amounts of free time and needing something to distract himself, Nate starts making YouTube videos, imploring Hayley to come back to him, and come back to Texas.

Hayley’s life is wrapped around the Beats, making sure she doesn’t flunk out of biology class, and babysitting Ohio’s smallest monster, Brandon. She doesn't want to admit it, but she misses Nate more than anything.

It’s too bad she doesn’t know just how much he misses her, too…

My Review

ARC given in exchange for an honest review.

I liked this book, but it took me a little while to get into it. It takes place in the present, but we are given flashbacks to tell us the story of how Nate and Hayley became a couple. So the story jumps around and at first it wasn't very obvious when we were getting a flashback. I found it to be a bit confusing, but once I caught on to how the author was using the flashback plot device the book because easier to read.
"Good luck not regretting the stupid shit you’ve done."
Those are the last words Hayley says to Nate. They dated when they were in high school, but broke up when he enlisted into the Marines. It was a very bad break up and they haven't spoken to each other since. It's almost 4 years later and Hayley is now a freshman in college. She is trying she is making a life for herself, but has never really gotten over Nate. Hayley has a supportive roommate and a fantastic group of friend, but she becomes increasingly distracted by thoughts of him and it begins to affect her everyday life.

Meanwhile, Nate has never gotten over Hayley. He frequently thinks of her while he is deployed and even keeps a picture of the two of them with him at all times. After he gets hurt, starts to make videos asking Hayley to "come back to Texas." He starts them as something to do because he is in the hospital and is bored out of his mind.  The videos become a kind of therapy for him and people start to watch them, like a lot of people. Nate also starts to get the people he knows and meets along the way to add in their two cents.

Here's the thing...while I really liked the videos Nate made for Hayley, I just wish she had seen them sooner. And if they were such a hit on YouTube and according to Hayley's roommate, Facebook, why didn't they come into play sooner. Hayley told her friends about Nate so they could have easily put two and two together. Youths! Aren't they supposed to be good with this stuff?  It just kind of felt like a lost opportunity, but they ultimately served their purpose, so i guess that is something.

I really liked Nate and Hayley as a couple. The way they meet is cute and it isn't long until they are spending almost all of their time together. Despite Nate being a few years old than Hayley, the two of them have a great connection and are super comfortable with each other. They have a wonderful relationship, until they don't. After Nate's grandmother passes away things deteriorate quite rapidly. This leads to Hayley saying the quote above, the aforementioned bad break up and Nate leaving for the Marines.  Cut to the present and where the book starts.

I look forward to reading the companion novella to this one. I hope that Hayley and Nate are able to move forward and work out their issues. It's clear they still love each other and whether or not they will get back together will depend on a lot of things. They are both older and SO MUCH has happened while they were apart.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

KK Hendin’s real life ambition is to become a pink fluffy unicorn who dances with rainbows. But the schooling for that is all sorts of complicated, so until that gets sorted out, she’ll just write. Preferably things with angst and love. And things that require chocolate. She’s the author of the NA contemporaries HEART BREATHS and ONLY THE GOOD DIE YOUNG.

THIS MUCH SPACE is the second book in her new series, TWELVE BEATS IN A BAR.

KK spends way too much time on Twitter (where she can be found as @kkhendin), and rambles on occasion over at www.kkhendinwrites.blogspot.com.
