My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review. 

This book starts off as story about revenge and turns into quite an emotional ride. Hades wants revenge and sees a perfect way to get it. Meg, always a willing participant in Hades plans, finds herself questioning her participation. And Hercules, poor Hercules, is about to find himself thrust into a world he could have never thought existed. 

I loved this book! I loved the dynamic between the characters. First it was just about Meg and Herc. Then Hades and Meg. Then Hades and Herc. Then Meg, Hades AND Herc. Whew. There is a lot going on here. And it is sexy as fuck! No really. 

The thing I really love about this series so far are the little glimpses we get into the other characters in this world. Characters whose books we will eventually be reading. Katee is fantastic at making me want to know more about them and that just makes the wait for subsequent books much longer!

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review. 

Lennix and Max are two people whose paths should have never crossed. They come from extremely different backgrounds and even the way that they met is probably something that should have never happened. But it did and it became the catalyst for a wonderful love story.

If you have read any of Kennedy's books, you know that she consistently gives us great books to read. She does her research an gives us more to think about than just romantic story. And this book is no different. Both Max and Lennix are committed to their causes and work very hard to meet their goals. Together they are a force to be reckoned with and I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.

This is the first book in a duet so this one ends on a cliffhanger so get ready to finish this one and immediately want to the next one. I can't wait!

“What do you want?”

The look he pours over me is hot oil, burning me even through serviceable layers of cotton. His heated perusal caresses my face, sluices over my breasts and hips, and then pools at my feet.

“Oh, that you won’t ever get again,” I say, my voice a soft, certain promise. “I don’t screw liars. I’m particular that way.”

“Never say never,” he drawls, tilting up my chin with his finger.

“Nev–”

He crushes the word between our mouths. It falls apart in the scorching, sweet tangle of lips and teeth. With one hand, he digs his fingers into my hair. The other splays across my lower back, his grip on me almost convulsive, urging me up and closer. I’m in stasis. I’m completely startled by the kiss, unable to respond. I send a desperate message to my brain.

Move. Pull back. Push him away.

But the urgent glide of his hand down my spine to cup my ass melts my thoughts to liquid and they swim in my head. I can’t pull back, and all hope of resistance dissolves when he presses his thumb to my chin, prying me open. He stalks my tongue, hunts down a response, licking and sucking and groaning and growling. His hands tighten on me until I strain up to seek him, yanking his hair, pulling him even closer.

“Dammit, Nix,” he mutters between kisses. His hand wanders down my neck and across my shoulder, and cups my breast, twisting the nipple through flimsy barriers of cotton and lace. He shoves up my skirt, pulling my legs wider, and pushes my panties aside, his fingers invading me. My body remembers this mad craving that claws out of my bones—that wants out. That wants him. Under his rough touch, my body blooms and my hips rock.

“That’s it,” he says, taking my earlobe between his lips.

My head falls back and I moan. It’s so damn good. His touch awakens me. His hands, his kisses bring me to life. It feels like I’m taking my first deep breath since we were last together, and it fills my lungs, seeps into my pores.

“I missed you,” he says, sucking my lips and kissing the corners, quick, hungry. “I’m sorry. Baby, I—”

“Stop talking.” I reach between us to loosen his belt, catching his zipper and dragging it down, dragging him out. “Shut up.”

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review. 

I loved Landon and Shay so much. Sure they were high school kids dealing with regular high school problems, but they were also dealing with personal issues. Turns out they were a lot more alike than they thought possible.

The way the story unfolded was so good. Landon and Shay hated each other, but it was the kind of hate where you knew, deep down, it wasn't real. There was a lot of back and forth that was basically harmless. They both had an idea of who the other person really was and it wasn't until the bet that they learned just how wrong they were. 

I started this book on a Saturday afternoon and by late Saturday night I was done. I couldn't get enough. I couldn't put it down until I had read every word. I am not a YA reader, so I can't compare this to other YA books, but I will say that for me, this read as more of a NA book. The characters felt older than their high school age, but not so much that it felt unbelievable. 

Toward the end I kept waiting for the bad thing to happen. And when it didn't, I cried. I cried because it just struck a chord with me and I loved that the author took a different route than most books probably would. Every character has their own journey and I can’t wait to read the next part of the journey in book 2.

My Review

I received an advanced copy of this book with the promise of an honest review. 

Mara is dealing with the loss of her husband and she’s just kind of existing in the world. She works at her friends’ diner for the sake of working and she has let her dreams go to wayside. Then one day Dean busts into the diner with his daughter Amanda, who has broke her arm. Mara doesn’t think twice about helping them and she finds herself very intrigued by this man and his daughter. Dean and Mara then find themselves running into each other and in the most unexpected places. A friendship is formed, which is the beginning of something very beautiful.
Whew. What an emotional roller coaster! I knew as soon as I started reading that I would cry at some point during this book. And I did. This is a story about loss and the different ways people cope. Mara and Dean have a lot in common, but they are both dealing with their losses in very different ways. 

This is such a gorgeous story, but not everything about it is pretty though. Very early in the story, Mara makes a choice that is not a great one. I just kept waiting for it to come to light because I knew it would affect her relationship with Dean. There are also two plots twists that not only surprised me, but also took my breath away, especially the second one. I actually had to put my e-reader down and take a minute to regroup. 

I knew from following the author on social media that this book went through a massive rewrite. An earlier version just wasn't telling the story she wanted to tell and she delayed the release in order to do that. I don't know what the story was in the earlier version, but I do know that I cannot see this story playing out any other way than how it did. Dean and Mara's story may not be perfect, but it was perfect for them and that is all that matters. 










Jeannine Colette combines angst and humor in her sexy, standalone romance novels. Her stories feature dynamic heroines, and swoon-worthy heroes, who have to abandon their reality in order to discover themselves . . . and love along the way.
